'I'm afraid to lose biggest game of the season' - Liverpool's Jamie Carragher
Reds defender anxious for a derby win...
By Omar Dabbagh
The Reds host the Toffees for their 213th derby encounter on Saturday afternoon, and the battle-hardened 32-year-old is expecting to play in his 25th clash against their cross-city rivals.
Liverpool have had a prosperous last decade against Everton, losing just twice in 20 matches, which included eight victories at Goodison Park.
And Carragher states that his nerves have remained unchanged towards the match-up. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “My feelings haven’t changed one bit. There is always that little bit of extra anxiety, which comes from the fear of losing.
“You talk about results being more important than performances but, ideally, you want to put the two together. But when you think over the last decade we’ve probably had our best ever run of results against Everton.”
When questioned about his side’s upcoming fixtures, the former Three Lions defender chose to focus solely on the match ahead.
“For me the derby [against Everton] is always the biggest game of the season and this is no different," he added.
“We’ve just got to make sure that we get three points and then we can start thinking about the games that follow on, as the race for the top four is getting pretty tight now.”
Liverpool follow-up their derby clasg with a midweek trip to Arsenal and a clash against Manchester City in a fortnight.
