Nemanja Vidic 'in contention' to face Portsmouth - Sir Alex Ferguson
Serbian has been training well, according to Sir Alex.
By Alan Dawson
While he was sidelined, Ferguson fielded a makeshift backline, as Rio Ferdinand began his suspension, and so Vidic's return would be welcome relief for the Scotsman, who will be hoping to close the gap further on league leaders Chelsea.
Ferguson told a press conference today, Friday: "Rafa [da Silva] got a knock against Arsenal, but hopefully he'll train today.
"Vidic has trained for the last few days and hopefully that will bring him into contention for Saturday. Everyone else is okay."
United host Portsmouth at Old Trafford, and Ferguson is hoping for maximum points.
"Our result at the Emirates last week was an important one and hopefully it’ll send us in the right direction towards the title. Winning against Portsmouth is very important and it’s the kind of game we’ve navigated quite well over the years.
"After the win at Arsenal it's important we kick on from here. As every game comes along in the run-in they become more important. It doesn’t matter who it’s against, we have to take three points from every one now."
