FA Cup Round-up: Crystal Palace defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic dumped out by Notts County

A quick-fire second half hat-trick from Danny Butterfield gave Crystal Palace a 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Notts County beat Wigan Athletic on a night of shocks in both FA Cup fourth round replays played on Tuesday evening.
Palace had the best of the early exchanges against Wolves, with Darren Ambrose curling a shot over the bar from just inside the area. They continued to press their Premier League opponents and Nick Carle's shot from the edge of the box required a block from Michael Mancienne.
Palace were forced to play the latter stages of the first half with 10 men whilst Alan Lee received treatment to a cut on his head, but again went close through drilled attempt by Carle.
Sam Vokes then flicked on a Nenad Milijas free-kick for the visitors, bringing a poor half of football to a close.
Again it was Palace that looked the most likely in the second period and the inevitable breakthrough came after Wayne Hennessy initially saved a Matt Lawrence effort, but could not keep Danny Butterfield from heading home the rebound.
Butterfield soon got his second, sliding a shot under Hennessey to make it 2-0 to the Championship side, who were now cruising into the fifth round.
Former Grimsby Town star Butterfield then completed a sensational six minute hat-trick moments later as he latched onto Alan Lee’s header to find the back of the net.
Wolves grabbed a consolation late on via a Karl Henry goal, but it was to no avail as Palace set up a money spinning tie against Aston Villa in the last 16.
As they did at Meadow Lane in January, meanwhile, Notts County managed to score twice against Wigan Athletic, but this time it was enough to secure a 2-0 victory and set up a fifth round tie against Fulham.
Wigan manger Roberto Martinez opted to rest Hugo Rodallega, Charles N'Zogbia, Hendry Thomas and James McCarthy while new signing Victor Moses was ineligible.
The same applied to Sean Canham of Notts County, who had already featured for Hayes & Yeading in this year’s competition.
Wigan started brightly in front of a sparse crowd at the DW Stadium - Jason Scotland fluffing an effort when through on Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.
County struck back later on with a trio of good chances. Vladimir Stojkovic denied both Lee Hughes and Ben Davies before Neil Bishop saw his effort stopped on the line by Jordi Gomez.
Not to be outdone, the Latics went close with Scott Sinclair shooting past the post and Paul Scharner seeing his volley stopped by a busy Schmeichel minutes before the interval.
An early chance for Wigan and Jason Scotland at the start of the second half then arrived, but his looping header was brilliantly kept out by Schmeichel.
Both sides had opportunities to take the lead, but it was County who went in front - Stephen Hunt powerfully heading home a Ben Davies corner.
A rapid second goal followed - Titus Bramble missing his clearance, leaving Gary Caldwell to put through his own net, ending the evening’s scoring and Wigan’s hopes of progression.
