Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder has admitted he has already prepared himself for a quiet summer as he believes he won’t be going to the World Cup with Germany.

"Realistically, I have got to accept that I am not going to be there [at the World Cup]," he told Kicker.

Metzelder was a mainstay in the German team during their Euro 2008 campaign but admitted he had not heard from national team coach Joachim Low for a long time now.

"I have not had any contact with Low in almost a year," he added.

"Even towards the end of last season when I played in some of the top games for my club, there was no contact. And the national team coach never really tried to come and see me play live."

The 29-year-old hasn't been able to establish himself as a first team regular at Real Madrid since his 2007 move from Borussia Dortmund and has made just one league appearance so far this season.

Despite finding his first team opportunities extremely limited with Los Blancos, the big defender still claimed he did not regret making the move.

"It was the right step," he continued.

"I have enjoyed training at the highest level every day and you don't get that at hardly any other club in the world."
