After months of speculation about his future, Brazilian forward Robinho left Manchester City for Santos on a six-month loan deal in the last week of the transfer window.

The former Real Madrid attacker was presented to the press on Monday and Robinho made it clear that he has the intention of staying at Santos for the longer term instead of returning to England at the end of the season.

"My goal is to stay at Santos for a long time. I'd be absolutely delighted if the president decided to extend my contract to four years. A permanent move would be great," said Robinho in the press conference which announced his arrival.

"I desperately want to go to the World Cup. I'm looking forward to being at my best in South Africa. I really think the World Cup could be my chance to shine. There's a lot of competition for a spot in the Selecao.

"We have so many good players and that made me worry about my spot in the World Cup squad. Therefore, I'm very happy with this transfer."
