German starlet Christopher Buchtmann leaves Liverpool for Fulham
Teen talent seals switch to west London...
By Mick Maguire
The German teenager moved to Merseyside from Borussia Dortmund in 2008, and was a key member of the squad that claimed the FA Youth Cup that season.
It seemed that the Reds' scouting network had unearthed a true gem when Buchtmann starred as Germany romped to victory at the most recent European Under-17 Championship.
The left-sided defender - who can also operate further forward - was named among the top ten youth talents in Europe by UEFA last year, alongside the likes of Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Barcelona's Marc Muniesa.
But having earned a promotion to the senior squad in the summer, the 17-year-old has now been shipped off to Craven Cottage in a cut-price deal that has left many a Kopite confused.
Buchtmann was widely regarded as the most promising prospect in Liverpool's youth ranks, and it is being speculated that attitude problems may be the reason behind his sudden exit.
