Hull City have rejected a £5 million bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for winger Stephen Hunt.

The 28-year-old has been the subject of four offers from Wolves during the January transfer window but the Tigers are unwilling to let one of their star players leave, despite the club's financial problems.

Hunt is relieved the transfer window is nearing an end and is keen to resolve his long-term future.

He told Sky Sports: "I gather the clubs have been talking a bit but for what I know, I'm staying."

"In the past I've got involved in transfers and mucked my head up but I've pretty much said nothing this time, got my head down and let my football do the talking.

"I'm happy at Hull City. When 5pm comes this evening it will probably be a bit of a relief."

Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton is pleased the transfer speculation is close to finishing and hopes Hunt can help steer the Tigers out of the relegation zone.

"The club have received a verbal offer of £5m for Stephen Hunt. This has been completely rejected and we're not expecting any further bids," he said.

"That's the end of it I suppose, unless they come in with something very quickly. That's how it stands."
