Maynor Figueroa pens new Wigan Athletic deal
Defender ends speculation about Latics future...
By Niall McGlone
The news ends speculation surrounding the defender’s future at the DW stadium. The contract signing has delighted Lattices boss Roberto Martinez who believed that the rumors regarding the player had affected his form.
“I am very happy that we have been able to reward him in this manner and put an end to all the silliness surrounding him in recent weeks," said Martinez on the club's official website.
"I have talked to Maynor at length, as a fellow Spanish speaker it helps that we can communicate very clearly with one another. He has never spoken to me about wanting to leave the club. He is settled here and now just wants to focus on doing well for us.”
Figueroa himself said: "I am glad all the talk is over now and I can concentrate one hundred percent on playing football and doing well for Wigand Athletic." The defender joined Wigan on loan in 2007 from Deportivo Olimpia, and after impressing he eventually signed a permanent contract with the Premier League club.
