Hull City boss Phil Brown is positive that Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer target Stephen Hunt will remain at the KC Stadium beyond Monday’s transfer deadline.

The winger has been subject of numerous bids from the midlands club who travel to Hull this weekend in a crunch relegation battle. The Tiger’s have reportedly received bids of £3 million, £3.5m and more recently £4m for the Republic of Ireland international.

Hull have now began tentative contract talks with the former Reading man, but Brown has dismissed that the club is being held to ransom.

"It's not because we feel held to ransom or that someone's come in so we have to flex our muscles," said the Hull boss according to Sky Sports.

"He's got a great contract here but he sat down with me yesterday and asked if it was true about the numbers being talked about.

"It follows on that an enquiry about a new contract would be his course of action. We've tentatively started talking but that's about it."

Wolves attempts to lure Hunt away from Hull before the two sides meet this weekend will no doubt add extra spice to an already important match.

Brown has also claimed that his wingers form will not be affected by the transfer talk surrounding the player.

"Even if he's supposedly unsettled, he'll give it his best. I'm looking forward to the game because if someone has unsettled him unfairly, then the opposition will feel that," he said.

Hunt has been on great form this season since his summer move from Championship side Reading and the 28 year-old has been the subject of numerous enquires from several Premiership clubs.

However, when asked if he felt Hull would still be a Hull City player come the Monday transfer deadline, Brown added: “There’s no doubt in my mind.”
