Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is pleased that Maxi Rodriguez is at Anfield, for both personal and professional reasons.

The Argentine national skipper believes that the winger can not only help boost the Reds' challenge for a top-four place with his quality on the park, but can also add some experience to the dressing room.

"Personally I am very happy because he is a very close friend of mine, and also because I know he can bring something to Liverpool," Mascherano told his club's official website.

"It's good for me and it's good for the club. It will also be good for Emiliano Insua and Fernando Torres, who is a close friend of his, and that's important.

"I will try to help him in every way I can. I know it's not easy when you come to a new country with a new language and culture, but he has some friends like me and Fernando. He has our support."

Rodriguez made his first start for Liverpool in the goalless draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers this week.

Mascherano thinks Reds fans will soon see the best the winger has to offer.

"I think he can do really well here," the 25-year-old added.

"I've played with him for a long time in the national team and he always gave 100 per cent, plus he has quality.

"I said to him that Liverpool was the best option for him and that he should come here and help us.

"I hope Maxi can have success here."
