Aston Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker is set to spend around three months on the sidelines after sustaining a stress fracture to his ankle during training.

Having had a scan on Thursday, manager Martin O’Neill admitted through the clubs official website that the results were a "major blow".

He added: "Nigel will be out for some considerable time - it's turned out to be a stress fracture - so he might miss 12 weeks. That's a major blow to us.”

Reo-Coker has failed to nail down a starting role in the Aston Villa side so far this season, having made only 12 appearances – 10 of which have come in the Premier League.
