Sir Alex Ferguson bemoans lack of appetite in Manchester United performance
Fergie taken by surprise by shock FA Cup exit...
By Alex Fisher
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his surprise at seeing his side knocked out of the FA Cup by League One side Leeds United.
“I didn't expect that performance,” the Scot told BBC Sport.
“If you don't start and the other team does, you're always up against it.
“Leeds had a far bigger appetite than us for the game.
“You need a bit of luck and they got it, but they deserved it because they played really well.”
And it wasn’t just his players that Sir Alex was unhappy with, referee Chris Foy came in for some criticism for the number of added minutes at the end of the game.
“The referee gave five minutes of injury time and that's an insult to the game, to the players out there," added Sir Alex.
United have the chance to put this result behind them immediately when they take on rivals Manchester City in the League Cup semi final first leg on Wednesday.
