After a Richard Wright knee injury ruled the goalkeeper out for four months, boss Roy Keane was looking to bring in some cover.
However, Ipswich have been informed that because they have two professional keepers at the club, they will have to wait until the January transfer window.
Arran Lee-Barrett, 25, is likely to start at Bristol City on Saturday.
He replaced former England goalkeeper Wright during Sunday's 2-1 win at Cardiff City.
Wright was injured five days after Asmir Begovic was recalled from a loan spell at Portman Road by his parent club Portsmouth.
Ian McLoughlin is Ipswich's other registered goalkeeper, although he is yet to make a first-team appearance.
