Roy Hodgson pleased after Fulham's physical victory over Blackburn Rovers
Cottagers not bullied by intense play, and goal scorer Nevland praised
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson heralded his team after overcoming a physical Blackburn Rovers side to earn all three points at Craven Cottage.
The veteran boss, speaking to BBC Radio Five Live after Wednesday's three goal win, spoke of the physical and mental challenge faced by his side.
“We had to deal with the long ball,” he said, “and as a result they pinned us in our own half.”
“They pinned our centre halves and stopped us from making good clearances, but during that time they struggled to make chances”.
Hodgson praised his team's mentality for not being “bullied” by Blackburn's direct approach, and believes that Erik Nevland's 44th minute goal, against the run of play, opened up the game in his side's favour.
“The barrage of long balls faded somewhat [after Nevland's goal],” said Hodgson.
The opening goal scorer received particular praise from Hodgson, who hailed the Norwegian's resurgent displays of late.
“At the moment Erik Nevland is not a back-up for us,” he said.
“He's becoming of vital importance, but I think he's been that important for the two years I've been at the club because he can score such important goals at times.”
