Steve Bruce was noticeably animated at the final whistle when his Sunderland team defeated Arsenal 1-0 at the Stadium of Light and had nothing but high praise for his players' efforts.

The Sunderland manager put his side's victory down to a strict adherence to tactics, which produced Darren Bent's game-winning strike.

“We’ve played well of late. We played particularly well at Tottenham and got nothing,” Bruce told Sky Sports.

“It’s always nice to beat Arsenal because they’re such a good team and we had a game plan to make sure we matched them in the middle of the park and them lads have run a million miles."
