Fulham’s Roy Hodgson believes Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn could merit England call-up
Cottagers boss is sure Rovers man has international quality
Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has spoken of his admiration for David Dunn ahead of the visit of Blackburn Rovers to Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The gifted midfielder has managed six goals so far this season and many have suggested he has exhibited enough quality to justify a place in Fabio Capello’s squad. Hodgson echoed these sentiments, but admitted the task Dunn faces in adding to his solitary England cap is a difficult one.
"It will be difficult for David because Fabio Capello's been working for two years with a group of players and his central midfield is particularly strong,” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"Realistically speaking it will be tough, but it's not out of the question. If you are asking me if he has the qualities to play for England, I am sure he has."
As a former Blackburn Rovers manager, Hodgson has fond memories of his time at Ewood Park, and it was he who handed Dunn his debut in 1998.
"I gave him his debut. He was a very good player as an 18-year-old when he came into the team in 1998. He is obviously a very gifted player.
“He's been unlucky with injuries and it's obvious that's had an effect. But his strength is, despite all that, he's back now and to see him back and doing well is great.”
