Ipswich Town deny rumours of Roy Keane sacking
Portman Road club backing beleaguered boss, boardroom unrest denied
Championship club Ipswich Town have denied rumours of manager Roy Keane's imminent sacking, and have insisted that an urgent boardroom meeting was not held over the weekend.
Former Sunderland boss Keane has won just three league games since replacing Jim Magilton in April, and a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday poured further fuel on rumours circulating that the Irishman would be removed from his position at the beginning of the week.
But Ipswich, second bottom of the Championship after earning just 13 points from 17 games, intend to keep Keane in charge.
A club spokesman said: "Reports in the press this morning that Roy will be sacked are complete rubbish.”
Ipswich, on a six-game unbeaten run, are now expected to hold onto Keane, with rumours of boardroom unrest emphatically dismissed.
“There were no meetings over the weekend and Roy remains in charge,” added the club spokesman.
Keane himself, acutely aware of his side's lowly position, acknowledged that the 17 goals scored this season were insufficient, but backed his side for at least finding consistency of late.
Speaking after Saturday's draw, Keane said: "We are looking a bit more solid at the back but we're obviously not scoring enough."
