The 2017 S.League season opener will be hosted for the first time at the Singapore Sports Hub.

Defending champions Albirex Niigata FC (S) will face off against runners-up Tampines Rovers FC on Sunday 26 February 2017 at 6pm in what will be a showpiece event for the S.League.

There will be pre-match activities at the Football Fanzone located at OCBC Square from 2-6pm, which features activity booths organised by the S.League clubs and appearances by their mascots and S.League players.

Mr Manu Sawhney, chief executive officer of Singapore Sports Hub, said: “As an ardent supporter of local football, we are delighted to host the 2017 Great Eastern Community Shield and kick off this year’s local football season for the first time at the National Stadium.”

He has not ruled out the possibility of more matches being held at the National Stadium in the future, adding: “We look forward to more such opportunities to present local football at the Sports Hub in close collaboration with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).”
