Live Commentary

  • 90' + 5'
FULL-TIME! It's ended 2-0 to Swansea at the DW Stadium. Two brilliant strikes from Sigurdsson either side of the break proved too much for an uninspiring Wigan side, despite Dyer seeing Red in the second-half for the visitors. Thanks for joining us!
  • 90' + 4'
Rodellega is offside as Wigan punt it forward again.
  • 90' + 3'
Di Santo does very well to gather a long ball inside the Swans' box, he then hits it across the area with men in the middle but Vorm collects the ball expertly.
  • 90' + 2'
We're being shown pictures from outside the ground and home fans are literally racing each other to get out first. Tells the story of Wigan's performance really.
  • 90'
Another ball in from the left, Caulker heads away. Five minutes of added time announced at the DW.
  • 89'
Diame miss-hits a delivery from the left and it's cleared with ease by Swansea.
  • 87'
Three minutes left and to be fair Swansea have done well to nullify any threat of Wigan's since that Dyer sending off.
  • 85'
Rodellega tries a shot from range but it's blocked by Caulker, ideas are certainly lacking in the Wigan side.
  • 83'
It all looked quite promising for Wigan just after the break but home fans are pouring out of the DW Stadium now as Martinez's side have failed to capitalise with the extra man.
  • 81'
SAVE from Vorm! The Swans keeper does well to deny Rodallega who was through on goal, though the shot was at a decent height for the man between the posts.
  • 80'
Luke Moore lands on his head after clashing with Alcaraz. He seems o as he gets back to his feet looking a little dazed. A drop-ball restarts the play.
  • 78'
Rodellega races past Caulker but the defender gets back to challenge well. The striker and the Wigan faithful want a penalty but those claims are waved away.
  • 76'
Corner for Wigan after Moses' shot gets blocked, the ball eventually falls to Diame on the edge, the midfielder takes an age to shoot and when he does it flies over. What a waste.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionDanny Graham L. Moore
  • 75'
The Swans just can't keep hold of the ball, it's firstly given away straight from Vorm's kick then Williams wins it back only to give it away again. Luckily for Rodgers' men the hosts are still lacking quality in the final third.
  • 74'
The second set-piece is delivered and Di Santo throws himself at it, though he leads with his back and not his head. Strange one from the striker, it'll be a goal-kick to Swansea.
  • 73'
Wigan come forward with Moses on the right, again causing problems, he wins a corner for the Latics. It's sliced behind for another...
  • 71'
The game is finally back underway as Swansea enjoy some, what could now be classed as rare, possession. They waste it though and Wigan have a goal-kick.
  • 70'
    Yellow Card Ashley Williams
  • 70'
    Yellow Card Mohamed Diame
  • 69'
It's all handbags at the minute at the DW. Caulker is down and Rodellega is not happy about something and it takes most of the Wigan team to calm him down. Not 100 per cent sure what happened there.
  • 68'
What a hit! Mohamed Diame goes close with what would have been another fantastic goal in this match. The ball falls to him on the edge of the box and he smashes it on the half-volley. Just over, unlucky.
  • 67'
    SubstitutionMaynor Figueroa Hugo Rodallega
  • 66'
Great ball in from on the left for Wigan but there is no-one there to turn it in. Hugo Rodellega has now been sent on to try and secure some points.
  • 65'
Swansea have been pinned back in their own box since that red card but as yet their defence has been solid. Wigan knock it around in the opponents half as they wait for an opening but the final cross is wasted and goes out for a goal-kick.
  • 64'
    Yellow Card Ángel Rangel
  • 63'
    SubstitutionGylfi Sigurdsson Alan Tate
  • 63''s man at the ground Alex Fisher gives his verdict on that dismissal: "He has probably been the best player on the pitch apart from Gylfi Sigurdsson but Nathan Dyer has just been sent off for a high challenge of Jordi Gomez. The winger put his foot up very high and caught the Spaniard and referee Andre Mariner had no hesitation in issuing the red card. In my opinion that's harsh but you run the risk of a red card if you make challenges like that."
  • 62'
Wigan ping the resulting free-kick into the box but it comes straight back out, they then win a corner which is flicked on by Moses at the front post but it has too much pace for anyone to turn it in at the back.
  • 61'
    Red Card Nathan Dyer
RED CARD! Nathan Dyer sent off for a high challenge on Gomez.
  • 58'
You have to feel for Martinez here, Moses looked like he was the spark they needed to get back into the game but that goal presents an uphill struggle now as Di Santo squanders an opportunity.
  • 57'
    Yellow Card Jordi Gómez
  • 57'
Another free-kick to Swansea, too far out for Sigurdsson to shoot so he chips it into the box, the ball falls to Dyer who miss-fires and watches his shot go way over.
  • 56'
Alex Fisher has some thoughts on that goal, he reports from the DW Stadium: "It's that man Gylfi Sigurdsson again for Swansea and it's another brilliant strike from the Icelandic midfielder. Swansea were awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal and he calmly fired the ball over the wall and into the far corner giving Ali Al Habsi no chance. Another one to watch tonight, the boy is a bit special!"
  • 55'
    Goal Gylfi Sigurdsson
GOOOOAAAAAALLLL! Sigurdsson with his second courtesy of a beautiful free-kick, although Al Habsi's positioning is in question.
  • 52'
SAVE from Al Habsi, Graham feeds it through perfectly to Joe Allen whose shot across the keeper is tipped for a corner.
  • 51'
Again Moses looks willing to go direct and run at Taylor, however the left-back is equal to it. We have a game on our hands.
  • 49'
Moses really has made a massive difference. Taylor had virtually nothing to do in the first-half but has just been passed by the Wigan man for the third time already. His driven ball is cleared though.
  • 48'
Substitute Victor Moses shows his skill and pace as he beats Neil Taylor after some luck on the right-flank, he then finds Franco di Santo, after yet another lucky deflection, who tries an overhead kick but can't beat Vorm.
  • 47'
And Wigan nearly go level straight away, the ball is fired into the Swansea box and Vorm fails to deal with it first time around, a small goalmouth scramble forms with three players, including the keeper going for the same ball. The Swans eventually hack it out for a corner which comes to nothing.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionConor Sammon Mohamed Diame
  • 46'
    SubstitutionJames McArthur Victor Moses
  • 46'
Wigan get us started in the second-half.
  • More from's man at the ground, Alex Fisher: "I've seen Wigan a lot this year and today is the first time that (a) the fans have got on their back and actually booed their side off the pitch, and (b) the atmosphere on the pitch looks strained, there are arguments amongst the players and it is clear to see there are frustrations amongst the them as well. Neither are good signs for the Latics."
  • 45' + 3'
HALF-TIME! Alex Fisher on that entertaining first period: "Half time here at the DW and the players leave the pitch to boos after Gylfi Sigurdsson's 47th minute opening goal. Swansea have dominated the half and deserve their lead which came from an absolutely stunning strike from the midfielder. He received a pass from Steven Caulker and from 20 yards curled a beautful strike over Ali Al Habsi and into the top corner. Well worth watching later!"
  • 45' + 2'
    Assist Steven Caulker
  • 45' + 2'
    Goal Gylfi Sigurdsson
GOOOOAAAAALLLL! Right before the break Sigurdsson ends the deadlock with a fantastic strike. 1-0 Swansea.
  • 45'
Two minutes of added time signaled by the fourth-official.
  • 42'
The Swans have had 60% of the ball so far, but it's the scoreline that counts and that, folks, remains goalless as we approach the break.
  • 40'
Here's our man Alex Fisher's take on that chance: "Swansea should be ahead and they would have been had it not been for a goal line clearance from James McCarthy. Scott Sinclair played a neat one two with Nathan Dyer on the edge of the area, rounded Ali Al Habsi and looked set to give his side the lead but McCarthy managed to get back and clear his low shot off the line."
  • 39'
Swansea back on the front-foot at the other end as Sinclair rounds Ali Al Habsi before passing the ball in the direction of the empty net, much to his despair three Wigan defenders get back to clear it. Still 0-0.
  • 37'
Wigan stating to come back into the half a little bit as James McArthur beats his man before passing to Figueroa who crosses, Emerson Boyce heads towards goal but Vorm saves well.
  • 35'
Ashley Williams puts in a perfectly timed challenge on Conor Sammon, who is through on goal, winning the ball back and then clearing the danger.
  • 33'
Beausejour with a free-kick for Wigan near the half-way line, he delivers it into the box but Michel Vorm claims it at the second attempt.
  • 30'
Sigurdsson again threatening for the Swans, his brilliant ball through finds Dyer in the Wigan box. The winger's effort is saved, Graham is furious as he was in yards of space across the box and surely would have made it 1-0 he he received the ball.

  • 27''s Alex Fisher at the DW Stadium: "I could watch Swansea all day, beautiful football both with and without the ball. They are restricting Wigan to long balls so far and as a result the home side have looked dreadful going forward."
  • 24'
Wigan have a rare bit of ball and it's Beausejour impressing again. Gomez then breaks on the right-wing and pulls back a cross comes to nothing.
  • 21'
Danny Graham is down holding his head after a clash with Antolin Alcaraz, could be a big blow for Swansea but it looks like he will be ok.
  • 19'
Gylfi Sigurdsson puts the free-kick into the Wigan box but Gary Caldwell nods it clear, however the ball falls straight to Scott Sinclair who smashes an effort inches wide. Unlucky from the England hopeful.
  • 17'
Our man at the ground is Alex Fisher and he reports: "Swansea are in complete control of this game at the moment, Wigan have been trapped in their half for the past ten minutes as the Swans look for an opening. There may have been no goals so far but the football on show here today at the DW has been first class."
  • 15'
Swansea are beginning to settle into the game nicely as they knock the ball around the back and search for an opening.
  • 13'
Wigan's midfield are dropping deep as soon as Swansea look like attacking, they are therefore looking comfortable at the back but as yet haven't created much up front
  • 11'
Nathan Dyer and Danny Graham link-up well for thr Swans and the winger gets his shot away but it deflects off Maynor Figueroa and Al Habsi gathers.
  • 8'
Wigan are pressing Swansea well but they are just lacking a quality final ball at the moment. Meanwhile the traveling fans can be happy with what they have seen so far, a solid start from the Swans.
  • 6'
Jordi Gomez gives the ball straight to Swansea in the midfield, the visitors come forward far too slowly though and Wigan clear.
  • 3'
Jean Beausejour has started very lively for the home side, as his dangerous cross is gathered by Vorm.
  • 1'
Swansea get us underway at the DW Stadium.
  • The teams are out and kick-off is nearly among us as Roberto Martinez prepares to face his old club with three points very much on the agenda.
