After draws against Norwich and Swansea, the hosts will be keen to seal all three points, but Rangers will be full of confidence after their victory over Everton

Antolin Alcaraz is ruled out for the Latics until October with a thigh strain and fellow defender Steve Gohouri is also unavailable with a calf injury. After signing new contracts this week midfielders Ben Watson and James McCarthy will be keen to push Wigan forward as they look for their first league win of the season.

Defender Clint Hill is suspended for Neil Warnock’s side, while forwards Rob Hulse and Jamie Mackie are both absent with injury. New signing Kieron Dyer is doubtful with the foot injury he picked up on the opening day of the season. Warnock may not have transfer targets Joey Barton, Scott Parker and Joe Cole signed up in time for this match.

  • Wigan and QPR have never met in the top flight before, and they have not played each other since 2005 when they battled to a 0-0 draw in the Championship.
  • Wigan were handed a surprising start to the season, where they face all three promoted sides in a row. So QPR will be the third promoted team the Latics have faced already having drawn against Norwich and Swansea.
  • After an opening day mauling at the hands of Bolton, QPR recorded a 1-0 victory over Everton last weekend which was their first away win in the Premier League since 1995.
  • If selected, Fitz Hall will be lining up against his former club, having represented Wigan in the Premier League between 2006 and 2008.
  • QPR can take confidence from the fact that Wigan only recorded five victories at home last season, and they averaged just over one goal per game.
  • QPR had plenty of success on their travels in the Championship last season, chalking up 10 victories away from Loftus Road.
  • And Rangers will not be worried making the journey to the north-west, having lost just one of their fixtures against a side from the region last season. That defeat was against Blackburn in the FA Cup third round, but in the league they were unbeaten against Burnley and Preston, recording one win and three draws.
  • New QPR owner Tony Fernandes is backing manager Neil Warnock with funds with just a few days left to go in the transfer window. The Malay businessman bought control of the club from Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone just after the start of the season and is already supporting his manager with bids for Joey Barton, Joe Cole and Scott Parker.

Players to watch

V. Moses

The winger has made a real impression at the DW Stadium already this season with impressive performances against Norwich and Swansea. However, the former Crystal Palace man has yet to get his name on the scoresheet, and has only done so three times for Wigan. His pace, trickery and movement will be a constant threat for QPR.

A. Faurlin

Position: Midfielder

Games: 0

Controversy has surrounded Faurlin since his arrival in 2009 but his impact for QPR has been impressive. He made 40 appearances in the league last season. The Argentine is a tough tackling midfielder with plenty of creativity and an eye for goal.

Editor's Prediction

Wigan will be desperate to secure their first victory of the season, but after QPR’s victory over Everton last weekend their confidence will be sky high and a draw seems the likelier result.
