Chance for Wigan to grab a late consolation. Di Santo showed great energy to beat two men on the byeline before cutting it back towards Jordi Gomez, but the Spaniard could only sweep his shot into Joe Hart.
The fourth official has signalled for an additional three minutes to be added on.
Zabaleta makes a lung busting run up the field to support Silva but the Spaniard instead picks out Kolarov on the left flank, who then drives a cross past Zabaleta in the box.
To their credit, Wigan are still snapping at the heels of the City players in possession but seem to have run out of ideas going forward.
Operation keep ball for Manchester City now as they look to take the life out of this one. A few late challenges are flying in from the Latics as frustration builds amongst the home fans. Wigan really do deserve better for their efforts this evening, the visitors have just been ruthlessly clinical in the second half.
Close! Kone again for the Latics. He gets up to head at goal alongside Nastasic in the box, but the 19-year-old prevents the Ivorian from finding the target before putting the Wigan man off the rebound immediately afterwards.
Sub for a sub for Manchester City as James Milner is unable to continue after getting on the score sheet. Kolo Toure makes a rare appearance for the visitors in his place.
City have the appetite for goals more goals here. Yaya Toure makes a trademark drive into the Wigan half but moments later balloons his shot well over the bar.
What a chance for Maicon to grab his first City goal. The ball popped off Figueroa and rolled straight into the path of the Brazilian who tried to delicately steer his right-footed effort into the top corner but missed by a yard. The former Inter man has been superb for City tonight.
Those two goals, against the run-of-play it has to be said, have knocked the stuffing right out of Wigan. The travelling supporters are making themselves heard at the DW for the first time this evening as City look to have sealed the points with their quickfire double.
Assist Gareth Barry
Goal James Milner
GOAL! What a strike from Milner! Manchester City have struck Wigan with a double salvo. The champions worked the ball across the midfield before Silva eventually teed one up for Milner to smash into the top corner with a right-footed rocket.
Goal Mario Balotelli
GOAL! Mario Balotelli gets his first Premier League goal of the season! Barry's initial shot was spilled by Al Habsi and the Italian was first to react forcing the Wigan keeper into another save before finding the back of the net at the third time of asking. One-nil to the champions!
Ouch! Mario Balotelli attempts an acrobatic overhead kick but boots Boyce in the face rather than getting the ball. Sergio Aguero meanwhile, is replaced by Aleksandar Kolarav as Mancini goes for a change in shape.
Milner's first involvement in the game sees him exchange passes with Aguero before firing across goal. The ball took a deflection of Jones and very nearly fell perfectly for Balotelli. Moments late Aguero gets to the byeline but clips his cross over Balotelli's head.
Yellow Card Gareth Barry
Barry brings down Gomez after the Spaniard threads the ball through his legs. Cynical one from the England international but he'll take one for the team as Wigan looked threatening on the break.
Martinez must have had a word with his wide men at the break. Beausejour this time delivers a delicious cross into the City area but Gomez can only head into the side netting at the back post. Wigan's delivery in the second half has been superb so far, City are struggling to cope.
Some shakey defending from Wigan allows Manchester City to win possession deep in their half but the visitors are sloppy on the ball and allow the Latics to win it straight back. The game is beginning to open up.
INCHES WIDE! What a cross from McCarthy to pick out Kone on the penalty spot but the former Levante striker directs his header just wide of the post with Joe Hart rooted to the spot. Best chance of the match so far for the Latics!
CHANCE! What a miss from Balotelli! Maicon picks out the unamrked Italian at the back post with a wonderfully shaped cross but the striker fails to find the target with his head from close range. Should be one-nil to City!
Balotelli squares the ball from the edge of the box for Toure to have a shot from range but the Ivorian can't quite set himself for the strike and sends it into the stands.
Balotelli turns into trouble on the halfway line but earns a cheap free kick off of Jones. City take the free kick short and Yaya Toure eventually crosses for Barry at the back post but Stam does well to intervene.
Good start to the second period from the visitors. Balotelli earns a free kick just outside the box after skipping past Lopez's challenge. The Italian took the free kick himself but sent the ball straight into the wall.
Balotelli has a go at goal straight from the kick-off and Al Habsi throws his cap on it, wasteful from the Italian.
Wigan take the kick-off to get us underway for the second half.
Manchester City continue their unbeaten start to the season after a quickfire second half double salvo from Balotelli and Milner put the game beyond the Latics, who deserved better after dominating large periods of the game. City's ruthless finishing was the difference in the end, they keep up the pressure on Manchester United at the top of the table.
Roberto Martinez will be delighted by his side's efforts in the first 45 minutes. The Latics have been the better side and could possibly have had a penalty late on when Zabaleta brought Gomez down in the box. Mancini meanwhile will be pulling his hair out. The champions have shown very little in terms of creativity and must improve in the second period.
HALF-TIME: Wigan 0-0 Manchester City
45' + 2'
Yellow Card Jordi Gómez
45' + 2'
Chance! Yaya Toure almost gives City the lead right on half-time. The Ivorian drove into the box from the right-side and prodded the ball at Al Habsi when he might have been better off picking out a team-mate.
45' + 1'
Penalty shout! Jordi Gomez spins on the ball well inside the box before going down under a challenge from Zabaleta. Mike Halsey is right on top of the incident and waves away Wigan's appeals. Tough call to make.
Sloppy is the only way to describe Manchester City's passing in this first period. Credit must be given to Wigan though, they haven't given the the visitors a moment to dwell on the ball.
David Silva misplaces a pass to Aguero and Wigan launch a counterattack. Di Santo picks up the ball deep inside his own half and sets off on a run right up the pitch into the City area before earning Wigan a corner. Brilliant stuff from the Argentine.
Silva floats a ball into the danger area but once again not City team-mate is on the same wavelength as the Spaniard.
Javi Garcia spreads the ball out to Maicon nicely, but the Brazilian tries to lay it off to Mario Balotelli first time and gets it wrong. City win the ball back moments after and this time Balotelli does well to earn a free kick near the byline.
Jordi Gomez, the man in form, has a go with the free kick and only misses the top corner by a yard or do. Decent effort from the Spaniard, Joe Hart was scrambling.
Aguero brings down Gomez about 30 yards away from goal and gives away a free kick to the Latics in a very dangerous position.
Now Wigan are beginning to strut their stuff on the ball, the home fans are loving every minute of this.
Great save! Stam does wonderfully well to ghost past Zabaleta on the right flank before crossing for Kone in the box. The Ivorian makes a dart to his near post and does well to get his head on it, but Hart does equally well to palm it over the bar. It was a good save and it should have been a corner but the referee signals for a goal kick.
City have a couple of corners in quick succession but Wigan defend well and survive the pressure.
Ageuro has great chance to get a shot away on goal after a long ball from the back finds him onside but Lopez does well to recover and put it out for a corner. The striker still suffering the effects of that earlier collision with the advertising hoardings.
Sergio Aguero is limping about the field after clattering into the advertising hoardings on the sideline.
The visitors are beginning to dominate possession now but the Latics remains a constant threat on the counterattack.
City attempt a free kick routine from the training ground but Barry's final ball into the box is nowhere near a team-mate. Mancini shakes his head in the dugout.
Beausejour manages to find a decent cross for the first time but Joe Hart reads it well and claims the ball before releasing David Silva on the counterattack. The Spaniard advances up the field with Ageuro and Balotelli either side, but his ball to the latter is poor and Wigan snuff out City's momentum.
Aguero has a snap shot from the edge of the area after the but drags it wide of the post.
CHANCE! Beausejour cuts inside from the left flank and aims for Joe Hart's far post with the outside of his left-boot but Kompany makes a good block. The Chilean may have had more success using his right-foot, his manager tells him exactly that on the touchline.
Oof! Kompany ruthlessly knocks Di Santo out of the way as Wigan threatened City on the break. The Argentinian strikes isn't best pleased but the referee lets play continue.
Wigan look sharp and confident in possession in these early stages but their final ball into their forwards has been abysmal. Stam the latest to wastefully send his cross into the stands.
Worrying signs for Manchester City as Maicon stays down after taking Di Santo's cross flush in the face. It looks like the Brazilian is going to be okay to continue.
Aguero drives up the left-side for the visitors but can only find the side netting with a right-footed effort. End to end stuff early on at the DW.
Beausejour gets to the byline for Wigan but wildly overhits his cross to let Manchester City off the hook.
Maicon gallops forward once again, this time the flying right-back decides to shoot from the right-side but fails to test Al Habsi from a tight angle.
Chance! Arouna Kone stings the hands of Joe Hart with a low strike after a some neat build-up play for the Lactics.
Early chance for Manchester City. Maicon shows the visitor's intention straight away, his charge up the right flank is followed by a dangerous cross into Wigan's area but Sergio Aguero fails to get on the end of it.
So Wigan take the kick-off and we are underway at the DW Stadium!
So the teams have emerged from the tunnel, shortly followed by the fashionably late Mario Balotelli, and we are now moments away from the kick-off.
So Carlos Tevez is once again only good enough for the bench for Mancini. He obviously didn't read Goal.com's excellent match preview, otherwise he would have known that the Argentine has never scored after coming on from the bench for Manchester City. Infact, he's only ever managed one goal as a substitute in the Premier League; for Manchester United in 2009 against Wigan, obviously.
Mario Balotelli, rather than Carlos Tevez, comes in for Edin Dzeko as Roberto Mancini makes three changes from the game against Chelsea. Maicon and Javi Garcia also return to the starting line-up in place James Milner and Aleksandar Kolarov.
Wigan are without Shaun Maloney and Ivan Ramis after both picked up knocks against Reading, Franci di Santo and Adrian Lopez come into the starting line-up in their place. Jordi Gomez continues up front after netting a hat-trick at the weekend.
Manchester City: Hart; Maicon, Kompany, Nastasic, Zabaleta; Y Toure, Barry, Garcia, Silva; Balotelli, Aguero. Subs: Pantilimon, K Toure, Kolarov, Milner, Sinclair, Tevez, Dzeko.
Wigan: Al Habsi; Boyce, Lopez, Figueroa; Stam, Jones, McCarthy, Beausejour; Gomez, Kone, Di Santo. Subs: Pollitt, McManaman, McArthur, Boselli, Fyvie, Redmond, Golobart.
