Manchester City win Aggregate 9 - 0

Live Commentary

  • That concludes our coverage of tonight's rather one-sided affair. Sorry West Ham fans, reaching the final just wasn't to be this year. Perhaps you'd have stood more of a chance against Manchester United! As it was, a double from Alvaro Negredo and a goal from Sergio Aguero added to Manchester City's already considerable lead from the first leg, while a star may have also been born in Marcos Lopes. Good night everyone!
  • FULL-TIME: West Ham 0-3 Manchester City (agg: 0-9)
  • 90'
ATTENDANCE: 14,390 have attended tonight's game at Upton Park. More no doubt would if there was anything else at stake! One minute of injury time added on.
  • 89'
    SubstitutionMohamed Diame Jack Collison
  • 89'
That could be worrying for Allardyce and would add a ridiculous amount of insult to injury on top of this 9-0 aggregate scoreline.
  • 88'
More injury problems now, this time for West Ham. Diame has to make way for Jack Collison, after a harsh challenge from Aleksandar Kolarov.
  • 86'
The Spaniard is back up but is still carrying a shoulder problem. Meanwhile, a chance for City to hit double digits overall, although they couldn't capitalise, despite having two men free in the box.
  • 84'
WORRYING! Negredo has picked up a knock here and it looks like City will complete the game with 10 men. That will be a worry for Pellegrini - and is hopefully only a temporary problem.
  • 83'
They'll face either Sunderland... or Manchester United. What a final that would be?
  • 82'
Less than 10 wins minutes remain for both sides here at Upton Park and City fans can look forward to another trip to Wembley! They were there last year, of course, but will not have pleasant memories after a 1-0 loss to Wigan in the FA Cup final.
  • 80'
Another absolutely brilliant cross from Lopes is not taken advantage of by Negredo. What a night the youngster is having, though.
  • 79'
    SubstitutionJesús Navas González Aleksandar Kolarov
  • 78'
Pellegrini is now making a defensive substitution. Now there's something you don't see every day!
  • 75'
CHANCE! A great cross is played into Cole and he almost gets a shot away at goal! Jack Rodwell is there to prevent him, however. And shortly afterwards, Cole almost heads a Taylor cross in again but it goes off target.
  • 73'
ROW Z! Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho smashes the ball into the stands! He was slightly off-balance and, once he had released his foot, that was never going in. City, nevertheless, are still in search of goals here. How many goalscoring records will they go on to break?
  • 71'
OFFSIDE! The ball is flicked on to Kevin Nolan but the Hammers skipper is ruled to be beyond the last man. City hit straight back, as Negredo wins a corner after a block from Matt Taylor.
  • 70'
POST! Lopes receives the ball from Navas and hits the post with a mis-hit cross. Ironically, the only reason it went near the goal was because it was so badly hit!
  • 69'
Of course, it has also been down to a lack of ability up front for the Hammers, with Carroll and Morrison the only ones looking relatively threatening. City now have a free kick in front of goal...
  • 67'
It is interesting that the team that needs goals tonight has none. But that is, in no small part, down to Lescott, who has been terrific at the back for City tonight.
  • 65'
    SubstitutionSergio Agüero Stevan Jovetic
  • 64'
    Yellow Card Gael Clichy
  • 64'
Now there's an unfamiliar face: Stevan Jovetic comes on for Aguero. He's only made five appearances so far this season.
  • 63'
    SubstitutionJavi García Jack Rodwell
  • 61'
LESCOTT! But fantastic defending from Lescott now denies the Hammers, who almost grab a goal back after a sensational turn and run from Morrison. He has been West Ham's only real bright light since half-time.
  • 60'
That brings the aggregate score to a, quite frankly, ridiculous score of 0-9. The City fans in the away end are certainly happy.
  • 59'
    Assist Sergio Agüero
  • 59'
    Goal Negredo
GOAL! Negredo! Can the Spaniard be stopped? And can City be stopped? Negredo picks the ball up in the West Ham danger area and shows good feet (as well as receiving a bit of luck) to beat Hammers defenders. He overruns it slightly, though, and slides to keep the ball in play, ending up lifting it over Jaaskelainen. Remarkable finish!
  • 57'
Comical scenes now as Cole runs into Diame, prompting the latter to completely lose interest in play. Diarra covers up to save both, however, as he cuts out City's resulting attack.
  • 56'
West Ham's next game sees them travel to Chelsea. Hardly encouraging!
  • 55'
WALL! Morrison takes a free kick for the Hammers - but hits it straight into the well. Diame tries to follow up, however, but pressure from Lopes forces a goal kick. There were strong claims for a foul from Lopes, though!
  • 53'
Speaking of which, Navas absolutely wastes his chance to cross into the box, sending it straight towards Jaaskelainen once again.
  • 52'
For City, in the meantime, you would have to conclude that young Lopes has outshone Navas today. Not a bad feat for a teenager.
  • 51'
NO PENALTY! Stewart Downing makes a great pass to Carlton Cole, who then makes a fantastic run, turning in the box and then passing to Morrison. He was brought down by Javi Garcia - but no penalty was given!
  • 49'
Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce is no doubt thinking about his upcoming Premier League games by putting Cole and Carroll to the bench. The former also looks to have picked up a very slight knock - but nothing serious.
  • 48'
    SubstitutionJoe Cole Stewart Downing
  • 48'
TACKLE! Johnson makes a superb tackle against Aguero. Quite a contrast to his previous tasks this season when playing for League One club Wolves! Not so long ago, though, Wolves were a Premier League club...
  • 46'
    SubstitutionAndy Carroll C. Cole
  • 46'
We are underway for the second half! Alou Diarra has already given the ball away for West Ham...
  • On Twitter, Manchester City fans are already comparing Marcos Lopes to Adnan Januzaj!
  • Stay with us for all the second-half action - even if you're unfortunate to be a Hammers fan tonight!
  • Jesus Navas has also impressed for City, while Marcos Lopes might just be a star in the making. West Ham's Andy Carroll seems to have shone as well, however, but might have found more joy in that first half if he was playing for the opposition.
  • Goals from Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero (the usual suspects) have put West Ham to the sword once again, with Manuel Pellegrini's side taking this game very seriously, despite the 6-0 advantage they had left over from the first leg.
  • Making it 0-8 on aggregate.
  • HALF-TIME: West Ham 0-2 Manchester City
  • 45'
There will be one minute of injury time!
  • 44'
The half's nearly over as Carroll attempts to beat Dedryck Boyata (unsuccesfully).
  • 42'
CHEERS! Speak his name and he shall come - Lopes breaks free in the West Ham penalty area. Jaaskelainen comes out to parry him, however, and collects the ball from underneath his feat. The crowd cheer in irony!
  • 40'
Navas is only looking as much of a threat as Lopes, however. At 18 years of age, the winger may just have a promising furture ahead of him...
  • 39'
Great play from Jesus Navas! The Spaniard yet again uses his pace to attack down the flank and Roger Johnson has to force it behind for a corner, almost scoring an own goal in the process!
  • 38'
    Yellow Card Alou Diarra
  • 37'
It's charged down by Cole, however, though City are continuing to press relentlessly, anyway. Would anyone want to be in Big Sam's shoes at the minute?
  • 36'
FREE KICK! Marcos Lopes - who got the assist for the first goal - does brilliantly to win a free kick for the visitors 25 yards from goal.
  • 35'
Aguero was down injured temporarily there... But only for a moment or so as the Argentine carried straight on.
  • 34'
It is with such ease and fluidity that the City players are currently manipulating the ball past West Ham at the moment. They might with this was a league match, as their efforts would at least be rewarded with something. As it is, they aren't gaining anything too tangible!
  • 32'
    Yellow Card Sergio Agüero
  • 31'
He's back up - but it was a poor challenge from his Manchester City counterpart. How hard are they working, considering they are 8-0 up over two legs?
  • 30'
FOUL! James Tomkins is brought down painfully...
  • 27'
West Ham win a corner, though, as Joe Cole and Carroll link up well together, with the big striker thumping the ball against Lescott to win the set-piece. Matija Nastasic is able to clear with ease, however. There is such a gulf in class here.
  • 26'
So a miraculous comeback doesn't look on the cards... Especially when it's City STILL doing the attacking, despite their huge lead over the two legs. Negredo it is, looking for his second, who troubles Jaaskelainen once more.
  • 24'
    Goal Sergio Agüero
GOAL! Aguero! And it's so easy for the Argentine, as he weaves his way through the West Ham defence, with two of those in Hammers shirts even running into each other. Poor defending, superb attacking. Perhaps the story of City's season - 8-0 on aggregate...
  • 21'
Morrison now gives the ball away with an attempted chipped pass from 35 yards out. Not his best moment, although he has otherwise been impressive.
  • 20'
STAT ATTACK: Edin Dzeko is the competition's top scorer at the moment. But if West Ham's defending isn't up to scratch tonight, could Alvaro Negredo overtake him?
  • 18'
Ravel Morrison and Diame now build things up brilliantly, although the latter once again is unable to capitalise from the finish. His shot goes straight to Costel Pantilimon - but the build-up was certainly impressive. Will Morrison be staying at West Ham for the rest of the season?
  • 16'
SAVE! Sergio Aguero - no doubt relishing the game-time after his comeback from injury - forces a save from Jussi Jaaskelainen. The Argentine is already a huge threat to any defence in the Premier League. Just how good will he be when he is fully fit?
  • 14'
OVER! More brilliance from Carroll now, as things look more optimistic for West Ham than they did throughout the whole of the first leg! A cross came into the box and Joleon Lescott had no chance of getting to it ahead of Carroll. The target man's header was just off target, though.
  • 12'
POOR! Razvan Rat has a great chance to tee up one of his team-mates but wastes possession completely.
  • 11'
Promising signs from Andy Carroll for the hosts now, as the big target man wins a corner with some of his usual aerial prowess.
  • 9'
CHANCE! Mohamed Diame has a great chance for West Ham! They might be playing for pride but the visitors are still looking to get something out of the game here. The midfielder, however, misses the target altogether.
  • 3'
    Assist Marcos Lopes
  • 3'
    Goal Negredo
GOAL! Manchester City scored six in the first leg - but that doesn't seem like enough for Manuel Pellegrini's side, as Alvaro Negredo strikes yet again against West Ham with an unmarked header in the area. An early lead already here - it's going to be a long night at Upton Park.
  • 1'
And we're off for tonight's Capital One Cup action!
  • That's a strong looking City side for what is surely just a formality. But can West Ham spring a surprise? The teams are out on the pitch and we're ready to get started...
  • Manchester City: Pantilimon; Boyata, Lescott, Nastasic, Clichy; Navas, Fernandinho, Javi Garcia, Lopes; Negredo, Aguero. Subs: Hart, Zabaleta, Dzeko, Kolarov, Rodwell, Demichelis, Jovetic.
  • West Ham: Jaaskelainen; Taylor, Tomkins, Johnson, Rat; Morrison, Diarra, Diame, Nolan; Carroll, Cole. Subs: Jarvis, Collison, Adrian, Noble, Downing, J. Cole, Chambers.
  • Good evening ladies and gents! My name is Tim Poole and I'll be guiding you through all of tonight's action as West Ham aim to achieve the mother of all comebacks against Manchester City. So without any further ado, let's take a look at tonight's teams...
