West Brom - Wigan Preview: Only Manchester United have drawn fewer games than the Baggies

Roberto Martinez's side face a must-win game as they aim to boost their Premier League safety bid and maintain their record of never being relegated from the top flight

West Brom will have to do without Marc-Antoine Fortune (suspended) and James Morrison (groin) is likely to miss out but Chris Brunt is expected to shake off a knee injury.

Goran Popov (calf) remains a week away from a return while long-term absentees Zoltan Gera and George Thorne (both knee) remain sidelined.

For Wigan, Maynor Figueroa will miss the rest of the season after he was stretched off during Saturday's draw with Tottenham and joins Antolin Alcaraz (hamstring), Albert Crusat (knee), Mike Pollitt, Ivan Ramis (knee) and Ryo Miyaichi on the sidelines.

However, there is better news for Roberto Martinez, with midfielder Ben Watson once again available after recovering from a broken leg sooner than expected.

  • West Brom have drawn just six league matches this season, fewer than all others except champions Manchester United who have drawn five.
  • Steve Clarke's side have scored 44 goals this season, the same amount as they have conceded.
  • Both sides have picked up eight points from the last six games.
  • Romelu Lukaku (pictured right) has netted 14 league goals this season, making him the Baggies' top scorer.
  • Wigan midfielder James McCarthy has played 3,015 minutes for the Latics in the league this season.

Despite scoring seven goals this season, Long has played in the shadows of Romelu Lukaku but he will be desperate to end the campaign with a bang after scoring in Saturday's win at Southampton. His work rate and dedication makes him a fans' favourite and, with the Latics likely to play a high line in search of the victory they crave, the Ireland international's pace may lead to a fruitful afternoon for the Baggies.
Shaun Maloney

The Scotland international has struggled in recent years to find consistency but his talent is undoubted. Having scored five and assisted seven goals this term, the winger's ability to find space and wicked shot means that he is a threat to any opposition defence. The 30-year-old has plenty of experience and Wigan will look to him for leadership on the pitch.
All the pressure will be on the visitors as their Premier League status hangs by a thread. Defeat for Roberto Martinez's side would all but condem them to relegation and with that in mind, coupled with the fact that West Brom have nothing but pride at stake, the Latics could just edge a tight encounter.
