Easy afternoon turned to emergency stations as game progressed. Dived at Ramsey's feet to pull off sharp save after van Persie had struck the crossbar.
Nasri's failure to get into the game was a big bonus for Hodgson. Didn't just concentrate on defending, and bombed on to support the excellent Thomas.
Lifted The Hawthorns crowd to their feet with his third minute goal. Easy to see why Jara is out in the cold. Appeared to have Arshavin in his back-pocket before Russian's quality finally showed.
Dug in alongside Meite. Used height to deflect away Arsenal's surprisingly wayward distribution.
Rewarded Hodgson's faith with a stoic display before he caught calamity bug from Arsenal. Floundered as van Persie dived in to tackle in equaliser. Booked.
Bullied Denilson into submission. Stole the ball with impunity and tried to play in the dangerous Thomas. His clearance led to second goal.
Left bloodied by collision with Koscielny in first half. Didn't allow blow to affect him.
Captain's performance. Tucked inside to help midfield retain possession and was usual deadly self from set-pieces. Poked into side-netting when perfectly poised to double lead in 54th minute.
Uncharacteristically sloppy in possession. Didn't make it into second half and replaced by Cech.
If the Nigerian possessed the restraint to stay onside, then the Baggies would have been out of sight. Couldn't believe luck when Almunia raced off line to gift open goal. Tired and replaced by Fortune.
Slapstick stuff from the Spaniard. Rooted to line as Reid nodded home in third minute. Saved worst until second half when he needlessly charged out of his goal and pushed Squillaci out of way to leave Odemwingie with an open goal. Appalling.
Quickly learned that Odemwingie lacked self-control to stay onside. Left Morrison bloodied in mid-air collision. Booked.
Ensured the injured Djourou was missed from kick-off as he was part of a defence that left Reid unmarked to head home. Then contrived with Almunia to turn a hopeful punt from Mulumbu into an open goal for Odemwingie from outside the penalty box.
Troubled at times by Brunt's intelligence. Kept at it and was an ever-willing runner forward. Frenchman's cross was headed against crossbar by van Persie.
Twisted inside and out by Thomas in the first half. Was delighted to see winger swap flanks in second period.
Quiet afternoon for the Frenchman. Didn't pick up the creative mantle left by the absent Fabregas. Booked.
Somebody should check the Brazilian's passport. After a half full of mistakes, was hooked at half-time for Chamakh. Decision was met with loud cheers by the travelling support. Booked.
Seemed to have lead in his boots. Made few inroads against makeshift right-back Reid before he thundered a strike past Carson in the second half and then crossed to lead to van Persie's scrambled effort. No effort but tonnes of quality. Usual story.
Spurned the Gunners' best chance of the first half when he could only shoot straight at the onrushing Carson after van Persie's header hit the woodwork. On his first Arsenal start for more than a year, Welshman understandably struggled to make an impression. Removed for Bendtner.
England's great hope was nowhere to be seen at The Hawthorns. Missed presence of usual partners Fabregas and Song. Didn't waste ball but passing lacked incisiveness.
R. van Persie
Left isolated in first half by Arsenal's poor passing and refusal to get forward in numbers. Was still able to strike Carson's crossbar with a delicately lofted header from 15 yards. Tackled the ball into the net to give Arsenal a real hope of coming away with all three points.

Replaced the appalling Denilson at half-time. Bright spark on a disappointing afternoon for Arsenal. Laid ball back for Arshavin and caused chaos from the moment he came on.
Thrown on to add more bite to Arsenal's attack in the 57th minute. Bundled ball backwards to lead to van Persie's equaliser. Sheer size created mistakes.
