FULL-TIME! It finished 2-0 and Napoli have Inler and Hamsik to thank as they march on into the Champions League last 16. The Italians finish a point ahead of Manchester City as Villarreal finish bottom of Group A, without a point. That's it from me, Luke Matthews tonight. Be sure to check out all the other action in the Champions League tonight on Goal.com, there's been some stunning results. Goodnight people!
90' + 3'
WHAT A SAVE FROM DE SANCTIS! The veteran keeper denies Perez who was sure he had scored a late consolation. Aronica is rolling around on the ground, looks like Gonzalo Rodriguez caught him.
90' + 2'
90' + 1'
Yellow Card Hugo Campagnaro
Yellow Card Ángel
Late drama as Aronica and Angel clash. Both sets of players come together for a mini-rut and Campagnaro is shown a yellow card along with Angel.
Villarreal are still plugging away yet it is surely to be to no avail. Napoli are defending solidly and look good value for their place in the Champions League last 16.
The visitors are looking to waste a bit of time now and are showing no urgency to get the ball into the Villarreal final third. Who can really blame them?
Perez does well to win a corner from Pandev. Can the home side grab a late goal to put Napoli under some late pressure?
Napoli are winding down the clock as Pandev replaces Cavani. No goals for the Uruguayan tonight but a hard-working performance.
It's surely all over here at El Madrigal as the visiting supports celebrate like crazy. Villarreal are on the verge of finishing their European campaign pointless.
2-0 NAPOLI! HAMSIK SCORES! Surely that goal puts Napoli into the Champions League last 16. Lavezzi's corner bypasses the whole Villarreal defence and Hamsik is on cue to bundle the ball over the line from a few yards out.
Goal Marek Hamsik
Free-kick for the visitors 30 metres from goal. Looks like Napoli will cross the ball into the box. Rodriguez is on for Zapata.
Can Napoli hold on for all three points? There are less than 20 minutes to play as Villarreal go in search of an equaliser.
So as it stands it will be Napoli who join Bayern Munich in qualifying from Group A to the last 16. Manchester City are back down to third and on the verge of going out of the Champions League.
GREAT SAVE FROM LOPEZ! The keeper initially flaps at a cross but makes a superb save to tip Lavezzi's powerful 12 yard effort around the post for a corner.
Assist Marek Hamsik
Goal Gökhan Inler
1-0 NAPOLI! WHAT A GOAL! Inler picks the ball up 25 metres from goal and smashes an unstoppable effort into the corner. Lopez doesn't even bother to dive, it's that good!
That really was a wonderful chance for the visitors as the ball somehow managed to stay out. Will they get a chance better than that? Nilmar is off for the Yellow Submarines as Camunas replaces the Brazilian.
SO SO CLOSE FOR NAPOLI! Cavani takes the ball around Lopez yet the angle is too tight. The Uruguayan cuts the ball back to Lavezzi and his effort deflects off a Villarreal defender and forces Lopez to stretch to stop the ball rolling over the line. So close.
This really could go either way. Both sides are defending well and an impact player off the bench could be needed to open the scoring.
Manchester City are now leading Bayern 2-0 with Yaya Toure doubling their lead. Looks like Napoli will have to win here. They have just under half hour to do so.
It's all happening here! Mazzarri is sent to the stands after pushing Nilmar. Pressure getting to the coach? I think so. We have BIG news of a goal in the Man City v Bayern game...
Brilliant passing move by Villarreal yet De Guzman eventually miscontrols the ball in the box. The home supporters are appealing for a penalty but to no avail.
Entertaining start to the second period with both sides looking dangerous in attack. Surely all the pressure is on Napoli who have it all to lose here in Spain.
Brilliant play from Lavezzi who drives past Angel before playing a low cross along the six-yard line. However, Musacchio does well to get in front of Hamsik to put the ball out for a corner.
GREAT EFFORT BY PEREZ! The winger smashes a shot at goal from the edge of the box and forces a smart save from De Sanctis before Campagnaro clears the danger.
We're back underway here at El Madrigal and neither side have made any changes at the break. Napoli need to score if they are to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.
HALF-TIME! It's 0-0 at the break and at the moment, Napoli are heading out of the Champions League and into the Europa League because Manchester City are leading Bayern Munich at the break. The visitors have been the brighter team yet have created only a handful of opportunities. What will Mazzarri be saying to his men in the dressing room? Will we see any changes at the interval? Don't go anywhere! We will be back in 15 minutes!
Both teams look content with the scoreline at the moment with neither really pushing for a breakthrough before the half-time whistle. There will be one minue of added time.
We're approaching half-time and it's still 0-0 here at El Madrigal. Will either side grab the opening goal before the break?
SO CLOSE FROM HAMSIK! THE Slovakian playmaker tries his luck from 20 metres out but his powerful effort narrowly misses the target with Lopez at full stretch.
BIG NEWS EMERGING FROM EASTLANDS! Manchester City have taken the lead courtesy of David Silva's strike. At the moment, Napoli will not make the last 16, City will.
Yellow Card Hernán Pérez
No Spanish side have ever gone through the whole of a Champions League group stage without a point. Will Villarreal break that record this evening?
Nice move from a corner by Villarreal who nearly catch the visitors out. De Guzman quickly picks Senna out who drills a ball across goal yet the ball is blocked and cleared.
Villarreal have the ball in the back of the net and it's a tidy finish from Ruben yet the Argentine striker is rightly ruled to be offside. Still 0-0.
There's a stoppage in play as Angel stays down after colliding with Cavani. Looks like the defender has injured his ankle.
As we approach the half hour mark we're goalless in Spain. Napoli have looked the livelier of the two yet this is anyone's game.
Villarreal are boxed into their own half at the moment as Mazzarri's men push for that all important goal. Can the Yellow Submarines hit their opponents on the counter-attack?
More pressure from the away side who win their second corner in as many minutes. However, the corner is average at best and when it eventually falls to Zuniga on the edge of the box, the winger blasts it over the crossbar.
Zapata is shown a yellow card for a tug on Lavezzi. The Colombian appeared to be the last man there. Is he lucky to still be on the pitch?
Yellow Card Cristian Zapata
Beautiful move from Napoli. Hamsik clips a wonderful chipped pass into the penalty area yet Maggio's first touch is a little heavy and Lopez is out of his goal to stop the danger.
Very good defending from Cannavaro who ushers the ball out of play with Nilmar lurking. Can Paolo do what his brother never achieved and win the Champions League?
Manchester City have had the ball in the back of the net! It's been disallowed though for a foul on the keeper, Butt. Relief for Napoli.
Appeals for a handball from the away side as Zuniga's cross strikes Angel. Replays show it did hit the right-back's arm which was raised. A fair shout there for a penalty.
Napoli are having to sit back a little deeper as the home team take their turn to have a spell of possession. Still 0-0 in the game between Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Not much to report in terms of chances in recent minutes. Quick stat for you - Villarreal have never lost to Italian opposition at home. Saying that, they have lost both games at El Madrigal in the Champions League this season.
After a shakey start, the home team are now looking a little more comfortable. Senna has particularly looked lively despite his age.
Brilliant start to this game with both teams adopting a pacy tempo to proceedings. First goal in this game is crucial.
GREAT SAVE FROM DE SANCTIS! End-to-end stuff here as Villarreal respond by going down the over the end and getting the ball to Ruben who forces the experienced keeper to tip his low effort around the post for a corner.
ZUNIGA SHOULD SCORE! The away team beat the offside trap when Lavezzi whips a ball in the box. Zuniga is free from six yards out yet his effort is straight at Lopez.
Yellow Card Jonathan De Guzmán
Zuniga shows a brilliant burst of pace to get down the left and past Angel yet his looping cross is cleared by Musacchio. Early signs of danger from the Italians.
The visitors have made a bright start and are confidently knocking the ball around the pitch. It's not difficult to notice who are the team gunning for qualification this evening.
Napoli get us underway here at El Madrigal in their charcoal third strip while Villarreal are in their traditional yellow.
A host of stars return for Napoli this evening who are able to field their strongest starting line-up. Edinson Cavani's return at the weekend against Lecce was a big boost for the Italians who will be looking for their talisman to deliver the goods this evening. Villarreal have their own returning forward in the shape of Nilmar who starts game for the first time in 10 weeks.
Remember to tweet me your thoughts and opinions on the game people! Follow me @LukasMaf and let me know who you think will progress this evening.

Villarreal: Lopez; Angel, Zapata, Musacchio, Oriol; Perez, Bruno, Senna, De Guzman; Nilmar, Ruben
Here come the teams...
The other game in Group A pits Manchester City against Bayern Munich, who have already confirmed top spot. We will make sure we keep you up to date with events at Eastlands. Maths time...Manchester City need a win tonight to have any chance of progressing to the next round. If this does happen, a draw will not be enough for Walter Mazzarri's men. We could be in for a very interesting evening.
Hello and welcome to Goal.com's coverage of the Champions League encounter between Villarreal and Napoli from El Madrigal. I'm Luke Matthews and I'll be guiding you through tonight's action. It's matchday six and a victory for the visitors will guarantee them a spot in the last 16 of the competition. Villarreal are solely playing for pride as they look to pick up their first points in what has been a dismal campaign.
