Thanks for joining me, Tom Webber, and have a great night!
Simeone's men continue to cement their position in the top three with another positive result, while Villarreal's European ambitions took another blow as they are now on a run of eight Liga games without a win.
FULL TIME - Villarreal 0-1 Atleti: Chances were hard to come by for both sides all evening, but the hosts were denied from the first half's best chance as Oblak kept out Victor Ruiz's header. It was the introduction of Torres that proved decisive, though, as he capitalised on an error from Bailly and to net the winning goal.
90' + 5'
Godin heads it away and the final whistle is blown!
90' + 4'
JUST WIDE! Jaume Costa rifles a volley at goal from the top of the box but it is deflected off target! A corner will be Villarreal's last chance now...
90' + 3'
Moi Gomez leads a break for Villarreal. He has Campbell running into space on his right but goes for a more difficult pass out to the left which is intercepted. Jokic pushes up and plays a decent ball into the box for Mario, who blazes over the top! That was the chance for the equaliser!
90' + 1'
We are into the first of four added minutes.
Yellow Card Juanfran
Time is running out for Villarreal but they don't appear to have much urgency to find an equaliser. Juanfran picks up a yellow card for blocking off Jaume Costa inside the centre circle when the hosts eventually looked to probe forward.
Yellow Card Miranda
Miranda is shown a yellow card for taking his time over a free kick which was awarded for offside. He tried his luck by moving it as far up the pitch as possible, but the referee wasn't impressed!
Fortunately, Asenjo is able to get up and walk around to the dugout for further treatment. No risks are going to be taken though, as he is replaced by Juan Carlos. Marcelino also brings on Fran Sol for Gerard.
Asenjo appears to be in real pain following the corner, and he can be heard howling into his gloves after an awkward fall following the corner. Hopefully it isn't as serious as it looks.
THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN TWO! Griezmann springs the offside trap and sprints away from Victor Ruiz to get into the box. He fires his shot straight at Asenjo, though, and the keeper stays big to divert it out for a corner.
Jokic carries the ball forward on the left before cutting a pass back to Campbell, who finds space at the top of the box. The Costa Rican takes it first time but balloons his effort into the stand behind the goal.
Oblak is shown a yellow card by the referee for time wasting, but he probably won't mind picking that up. Do Villarreal have what it takes to work their way back into this match?
Yellow Card Jan Oblak
That could be a huge goal from the on-loan striker. His persistence paid off and now Atleti have the lead they've been searching for all evening. A win here would send them seven points clear of Valencia, who play Rayo Vallecano tomorrow.
Goal Fernando Torres
GOOOOOOAAAAL!! TORRES BREAKS THE DEADLOCK! Bailly makes an absolute howler, failing to control a header from Trigueros which sends him running back towards his own goal. The striker pounces on the Ivorian's loose touch, rounding the keeper before showing great composure to watch two Villarreal defenders commit themselves, leaving space for him to slide the ball into the back of the net!
JUST WIDE! Jaume Costa slides a pass into Gerard who is unable to hold off the recovering Godin and loses his footing inside the box. The loose ball eventually sits up for Moi Gomez, whose strike towards the bottom corner is deflected wide by Atleti's Uruguayan centre-back.
Mario gets forward from right-back and receives the ball in space. He takes a few touches to move closer to the box before unleashing a powerful shot that sails high of the target.
Saul has moved into the centre of midfield alongside Tiago, with Raul Garcia taking up his position on the right.
Simeone makes his final switch of the night, replacing Gabi, who was on a yellow card, with Raul Garcia.
STAT: At El Madrigal, Villarreal have lost just one of their last six meetings with los Rojiblancos.
Jaume Costa stands a cross up at the back post but it is headed away by Jesus Gamez with Campbell looking to connect. Chances remain at a premium in this half.
Saul almost makes a specatcular impact as a pass from Gabi is deflected straight to his feet. His first touch loops up so he unleashes a volley with his second, which he slices harmlessly wide of the target.
Simeone makes his changes now, and it is Arda and Mandzukic who make way for Saul and Torres.
There are number of sloppy passes and tackles in the centre of the park at the moment, with both sides struggling to really take this game by the scruff of the neck.
It seems that Simeone has seen enough, with both Saul and Torres stripped and ready for action on the sidelines. This game is in desperate need of a goal.
Gabi moves out to the left and gets forward. He cuts inside onto his right foot and swing a teasing cross into the box for the run of Griezmann. It's a little too high for the Frenchman and Asenjo is able to claim it.
It is better from Jaume Costa, but Mandzukic is back and in the perfect place to header the set-piece out of play for a corner. Campbell again tries to dribble into the box from the right but runs the ball out of play.
Yellow Card Jesús Gámez
Jesus Gamez is the latest player to go into the book, and it comes for a trip on Campbell as the on-loan striker ducked inside him from the right wing. Will Jaume Costa's delivery be better this time?
Another tricky run from Campbell results in him being brought down by Koke on the right. Jaume Costa flight's the set-piece towards the near post for Pina, but an Atleti shirt is first to it. His last couple of deliveries have been rather poor.
Oblak claims Jaume Costa's corner from the right and sets Arda away on the counterattack with a quick throw. The Turkey international pushes forward on the wing before sending a cross straight out of play for a goal kick!
Again Campbell uses his pace to try and get in behind the Atleti defence, but once more he is caught offside. His cross into the middle for Gerard was cut out by Oblak anyway.
Griezmann whips a low cross in from the left that bounces up off the turf, tricking Victor Ruiz who dives beneath it while trying to head it away. Mandzukic nods it back into the middle but it's cleared by the Villarreal defence. The Yellow Submarine centre-back eventually returns to his feet, but seems to have hurt his shoulder.
We're back underway! There is one change for the second half to tell you about, with Rukavina replaced by a more orthodox midfielder in Moi Gomez.
HALF TIME - Villarreal 0-0 Atleti: The visitors have controlled possession in the first half but have been unable to create enough chances to worry Asenjo. Griezmann perhaps should have been awarded a penalty after a collision with Jokic in the box, but nothing was given by the referee. The best opportunity to break the deadlock fell to Victor Ruiz, although Oblak made a great save to keep his header out. Stay tuned for the second half.
There is the half-time whistle!
SIDE NETTING! Koke flights a cross towards the back post, where Mandzukic nudges Victor Ruiz in the back lightly before peeling off. It creates enough room for him to connect with a diving header, but he's unable to direct it on target.
Yellow Card Gabi
Gabi is shown a yellow card for pulling back Campbell as the Costa Rica international looked to surge into the Atleti half on the counterattack. The midfielder new he wouldn't catch him, so opted for the easy route out of the situation.
STAT: Marcelino has won just three of his 10 encounters with Atleti as a top-flight coach.
With the Yellow Submarine beginning to show more of a threat up top, Simeone will be keen for his side to push on and get an opening goal as soon as possible.
Well, Villarreal have done well to work their way back into this game despite Atleti's dominance for much of the first half. Los Rojiblancos have not created enough to really worry Asenjo, though.
GREAT SAVE! THEN OFF THE LINE! Rukavina's set-piece delivery is headed on target at the back post by Victor Ruiz, but Oblak gets down well to keep it out. The follow-up effort from Gerard is then cleared off the line by Godin!
The Atleti players are not happy with the referee! The official let a tackle from behind on Mandzukic by Victor Ruiz slide, but then awarded the hosts a free kick when Campbell was tripped out on the left.
Jokic attempts to angle a pass into Campbell but Godin tracks the striker across the pitch and slides in to get the first touch on the ball. The Uruguayan showed great anticipation there, limiting the already minimal service to Villarreal's front two.
JUST WIDE! Griezmann slides a pass into Mandzukic near the penalty spot and the former Bayern Munich man does brilliantly to hold it up while surrounded by yellow shirts. Eventually he has the ball prodded away from him and it drops straight to Koke, who fires a quick effort outside of the near post!
Mandzukic is getting his head on the majority of Atleti's crosses into the box, but his cushion for Tiago is controlled by the arm of the Portuguese. It results in a free kick for the hosts.
STAT: Villarreal have won just one of the their last six league meetings with Atleti, drawing once and losing four times. That triumph came in this season’s reverse fixture, with Vietto netting the only goal in a 1-0 win at the Vicente Calderon.
An incisive break from Villarreal catches Atleti unaware, with Trigueros feeding Campbell on the left-hand side of the box. He steps inside with his first touch before seeing his shot get diverted off target thanks to a deflection.
Koke lifts a clever ball over the top of Villarreal's high line on the counterattack, looking for Griezmann. The former Real Sociedad man makes his run too early, though, and is adjudged offside by the officials.
SO, SO CLOSE! A cross from the left finds Arda in space inside the box. The Turkey international is afforded too much room by Victor Ruiz, and he helps the delivery on towards the far post with a looping, glanced header. Asenjo scrambles across is goal line and breathes a sigh of relief as it drops wide of the target.
The corner comes to nothing for the Yellow Submarine, with the referee spotting a foul somewhere inside the box and instantly awarding the visitors a free kick.
Villarreal finally manage to get forward and put pressure on Atleti again, with Pina dispossessing Tiago 25 yards out. The ball runs straight to Campbell, who sends a stinging drive narrowly outside of the upright. It must have got a touch as a corner is awarded to the hosts.
Gabi receives the ball in space 35 yards from goal and opts to try and test Asenjo with a long-range effort. He hits it like an arrow and it keeps on rising as it flashes a foot over the top of the crossbar!
GRIEZMANN! The France international is looking lively tonight, and he races onto a pass in behind the defence and gets a shot away from an acute angle. He manages to hit the target, but from such a position it is always going to be hard to score and Asenjo is positioned well to deny him.
Claims for a penalty! Some lovely interplay between Griezmann and Mandzukic at the top of the box after a cross from Gabi culminates in the Croatian dinking a delicate pass in behind for his team-mate. The Frenchman looks sure to latch onto it and provide a simple finish but goes down under pressure from Jokic. It isn't enough to warrant a spot-kick according to the referee, though!
Gerard's touch has been quite poor in the opening stages, yet he's still putting himself about and his determination wins his side a free kick on the halfway line. It may not be much, but it gives the Villarreal defence some respite.
There are claims for a handball against Jesus Gamez as the left-back blocks Rukavina's attempted delivery into the box. However, the referee only awards the hosts a corner, which they take short before sending a cross straight into Oblak's grasp.
Los Rojiblancos work the ball well on the right flank before a pass is sent towards the byline for Juanfran. The former Osasuna man whips in a great, fizzing cross which flies slightly beyond Mandzukic at the back post. He may not have been expecting it to come in at such speed!
Atleti have controlled much of the possession in the early exchanges, with Villarreal looking to get forward quickly on the break. Jokic intercepts a pass and instantly sends a long ball forward for Campbell to chase. It asks too much of the Costa Rica international, though, and Oblak collects with ease.
Once again it is Campbell who provides the threat for Villarreal, using his pace to charge away from Arda down the left wing. He gets to the byline and cuts a cross back towards the centre spot which is intercepted by Miranda.
Campbell is fed inside the left-hand side of the box by Gerard and aims a first-time effort straight at Oblak, who occupies the near post and makes an important early save.
We are underway!
The teams are out on the pitch, and, after a moment of reflection for all the victims of the recent earthquake in Nepal, kick off will be upon us shortly.
Atleti bench: Moya, Gimenez, Siqueira, Mario Suarez, Raul Garcia, Saul, Torres.
Atleti (4-4-2): Oblak; Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Jesus Gamez; Arda, Gabi, Tiago, Koke; Mandzukic, Griezmann.
Villarreal bench: Juan Carlos, Chechu Dorado, Sergio Marcos, Shvets, Moi Gomez, Alfonso Pedraza, Fran Sol.
Villarreal (4-4-2): Asenjo; Mario, Bailly, Victor Ruiz, Jokic; Rukavina, Pina, Trigueros, Jaume Costa; Campbell, Gerard.
ATLETI TEAM NEWS: With Guilherme Siqueira struggling for fitness Jesus Gamez switches to the left-back position and Juanfran returns to the starting line-up on the opposite side of the defence. Arda Turan and Mario Mandzukic are also drafted back in, with Raul Garcia and Fernando Torres among the substitutes.
VILLARREAL TEAM NEWS: Marcelino has a rather lengthy injury list to contend with but makes just two changes from the weekend's draw with Real Sociedad. Chechu Dorado drops to the bench with Eric Bailly replacing him at centre-back, while Antonio Rukavina is deployed on the right side of midfield in place of the suspended Jonathan dos Santos. Luciano Vietto remains sidelined through injury so Joel Campbell and Gerard Moreno hold onto their spots in attack.
Conversely, Atleti are in fine form, despite their Champions League exit at the hands of arch-rivals Real Madrid last week, bouncing back with a 3-0 triumph over Elche at the Vicente Calderon at the weekend. Diego Simeone's men are unbeaten in their last 10 Liga outings - their best run all season - and have lost just one of their previous 15.
It's been a disappointing second half to the season for Villarreal, whose campaign once offered so much promise. They are currently without a win in seven Liga outings and have failed to score on six separate occasions in that spell. It is the Yellow Submarine’s longest winless run in a single season since October 2009, and they were also dumped out of the Europa League by Sevilla last month. They need to pick themselves back up if they are to qualify for the next edition of the continental tournament.
Hello and welcome to this evening's LIVE coverage of Villarreal's meeting with Atletico Madrid in La Liga. The reigning champions look set for a top-three finish this season, but with Sevilla and Valencia hot on their heels they cannot afford to slip-up against the out-of-form Yellow Submarine, whose season has begun to crumble, at El Madrigal. My name is Tom Webber, and I will be guiding you through all the action.
