In the second leg of the domestic cup clash, Unai Emery's side made quick work of the visitors to secure their place in the next round after a poor showing in the first leg

Valencia cruised into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 4-0 thrashing of Cadiz at Mestalla on Thursday.

The win meant Unai Emery's side went through with an aggregate scoreline of 4-0 having been held to a stalemate in a frustrating first leg.

Trying not to follow in the footsteps of Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, who were both eliminated in the round of 32, an attacking effort with goals from Victor Ruiz, Jonas, Roberto Soldado and Ever Banega allowed the side to clinch victory with little trouble.

Things got going early as Cadiz actually managed to put ball in the net via Ikechi Anya after four minutes, only to see his effort ruled offside.

Just one minute later, however, Pablo Hernandez sent in a lofted cross into the far side of the box where Ruiz headed into the left side of the net, scoring his first goal for the club and giving the La Liga outfit a 1-0 advantage.

A back-and-forth contest saw each team with chances going forward, but Valencia managed to withstand the visiting attack, eventually cushioning their lead.

With just under 20 minutes to go in the opening half, the hosts found their second thanks to Jonas.

The forward worked a combination with Pablo, playing the winger into the box, where he calmly marched towards the byline before delivering a rolling cross which the Brazilian tapped home.

With the half nearing its end, Soldado made it 3-0 with a quality header at the back post, finishing low after a cross from Pablo Piatti out wide.

After the break, Valencia, who saw Dani Parejo and Aritz Aduriz come on for Jonas and Soldado, continued to look for more as Cadiz were on their heels.

The team's fourth came thanks to Banega in the 68th minute, when the former Boca Juniors man marched into the box and finished with a low effort to add to the festivities and cement the victory.

Unai Emery's men will now rest up during the holiday season before return to action on January 8 when they travel to play Villarreal in La Liga.
