Required treatment after Albrighton went in hard on the 'keeper, and enjoyed a largely quiet afternoon on what was his first return to Premier League action since opening day.
Nervous start to the match from the Cameroonian, but the full-back settled down to offer decent defensive cover for Bale's careering runs.
Had the home faithful cheering, but his driven effort only reached the side netting. Offered decent width down the right for Spurs.
Forced into an early clearance after good work down the right from Albrighton. Caught in possession by Heskey in the build-up to Albrighton's goal, but didn't put a foot wrong in the remainder of the match.
R. van der Vaart
Looked to get his side back into the match from a set piece, but fired his free-kick high and wide. Forced Friedel into a save on 43 minutes, before bagging his side's equaliser in the closing moments of the half. Netted his side's second with a beautiful volley on 75 minutes.
Forced to play in the heart of defence alongside Bassong, and the former Derby man offered a composed performance for the home side.
Played a neat pass to Hutton in the opening moments, but was perhaps a little fortunate to escape a booking after what seemed a late challenge on Heskey. Governed the midfield well with strong tackles and composed passing.
Tepid first-half from the Croatian, the appearance of Aaron Lennon seemed to free Spurs' No.14, who enjoyed good link-up play alongside the winger and Van der Vaart. Replaced by Palacios on 76 minutes.
Suffered from limited supply for much of the opening 45, but was on hand to supply a neat header for Van der Vaart to bag his side's equaliser. Unfortunate not to give his side the lead in the second half with a powerful header, but was on hand to assist Van der Vaart again on 75 minutes.
Should have connected better when presented with a headed chance in the opening five minutes. Went close to finding the equaliser with five minutes left in the half, but his deft volley drifted just wide of the far post. Supplied the cross which led to Van der Vaart's equaliser. Forced off at half-time following a strong challenge from Reo-Coker.
Offered deliveries of real quality down the left flank for Spurs, and was a contest danger for Luke Young. Although the Welshman did not supply an assist, his dominating runs were a healthy outlet for his side's make-shift defence.
After a quite first half, the American was called into action by Van der Vaart in the dying moments of the period, and did well to tip the Dutchman's shot wide for a corner. Faultless for Van der Vaart's equaliser, and indeed the winner.
Clattered into Bale on the touchline before receiving an ear-full from Spurs coach Joe Jordan. Defended well when called upon.
Dominating performance from the Irishman. He made important challenges throughout, none more so than a decisive block to deny Van der Vaart.
Typical performance from the full-back. Solid in defence, and overlapped well on the left-hand side with Downing.
Forced to defend his area with a diving header in the opening five minutes, after a dangerous cross from the right by Van der Vaart. Sturdy performance alongside Dunne. Booked after a cynical foul on Van der Vaart.
Performed much of the nitty-gritty for the visitors, his partnership with Reo-Coker was key to quelling the advances of Modric in particular. Replaced by Ireland on 80 minutes.
Like Jenas, the midfielder was lucky to evade a caution after a late challenge on Pavlyuchenko. Lead the midfield well alongside Petrov.
His eagerness got the better of him, as the young winger slid in on Gomes leaving the Brazilian poleaxed on the floor. Was on hand to tap home his side's opener after good play from Heskey down the right flank. Mark Clattenburg's patience finally wore thin with the youngster, who picked up a booking late in the first half following a foul on Hutton. Replaced by Bannan on 80 minutes.
Wasted an opportunity to deliver a testing ball into the box, after Reo-Coker had created space for the former Middlesbrough winger following a short corner.
Spurs' summer transfer target went close with a free-kick in the final moments of the first half. Suppressed effectively by Spurs' backline.
Showed great strength to pressurise Bassong before winning possession and laying the ball on a plate for Albrighton, who tapped home from close range. Replaced by Carew on 35 minutes after picking up what appeared to be a calf strain.
- 23 C. Cudicini
- 22 V. Ćorluka
Replaced Modric on 76 minutes, and helped steady the ship to protect Spurs' lead.
- 21 N. Kranjčar
Replaced Van der Vaart late on but had little impact on the game.
Replaced Pavlyuchenko at half-time, and immediately offered Spurs greater thrust down the right-hand side. A constant threat throughout.
- 10 R. Keane
- 22 B. Guzan
- 24 Carlos Cuéllar
- 21 C. Clark
Replaced Albrighton on 80 minutes.
Replaced Petrov on 80 minutes.
- 4 S. Sidwell
Replaced Heskey on 35 minutes, and was presented with his first opportunity five minutes later, but fired his effort well over the crossbar. Showed some neat touches at times after the interval, but had clearly left his shooting boots back at Villa Park.
