Was forced to save low down with Redmond's early effort and the Italian easily matched Hooper's first-half strike from distance.
Was comfortable at the back alongside O'Shea and handled the movement of Hooper and Elmander well. His header from three yards out should have but Sunderland in front but instead it clipped the post and spun out of play. Sent off for a needless two-footed challenge on Hooper in injury time.
Got forward regularly and had his goal-bound shot saved by Ruddy in the first half.
Got forward well to support Sunderland's attack but the final ball was always lacking.
Was rarely troubled as the game progressed and the centre-back was calm enough to distribute the ball accurately to his midfielders.
It seemed excessive to have both Cattermole and Ki sitting in the middle of the pitch for at least 75 minutes as neither opted to break forward. Cattermole won his battles in the air but Sunderland needed a lot more to break down Norwich.
Kept it simple in possession and was adept at breaking up Norwich's counter attacks alongside Cattermole. Should have got forward more often as Sunderland grew into the game but opted to sit deeper which didn't help the hosts as they searched for the winner.
Booked for a studs-up challenge on Redmond. Couldn't get close enough to Altidore to support the striker and as a result, Sunderland's attacks were often from range. Wasted a free kick from a promising position. Replaced by Roberge late on.
Struggled to get the better of Olsson and was often a peripheral figure in Sunderland's attack. Replaced by Adam Johnson in the 63rd minute.
Spurned his only chance in the first half has he opted to take a touch from Wes Brown's cut-back, rather than shoot first time. Posed few problems for Bassong and Turner. Subbed for Fletcher.
Produced a solid save from Bardsley's low effort in the first half. Was beaten in a race by Borini which left the goalkeeper stranded far out of his area but with the goal open, an under-pressure Ki could not find the target from 25 yards out.
Won the aerial battle with Altidore and was composed when distributing the ball from the back. A solid display from the 27-year-old.
Booked for hauling down Borini but was not tested extensively by the Italian throughout the game.
His sliced clearance provided an excellent opportunity for Brown to put Sunderland in front but the defender's header hit the post. Made a superb last-ditch challenge to keep Norwich on course for a point.
Stormed forward as often as he could and was not tested enough by Giaccherini.
Anonymous for most of the first half until he met Robert Snodgrass's cut-back and hit a shot which Mannone saved. Demonstrated his accuracy well but should have given Sunderland more to think about in the final third.
Capped his bright start with the first shot of the game - which forced Mannone into action - but faded as the match unfolded.
Sat deep next to Fer but his passing was often astray. His restricted role meant his forward forays were rare.
Offered a different type of outlet on the opposite flank to Redmond but, as the match progressed, Sunderland pushed forward, which meant the midfielder had to pitch in defensively.
Showed neat feet 25 yards out, which allowed him to produce a strike that needed Mannone to palm past the post. Had little service alongside Elmander for the majority of the game.
One of Norwich's liveliest players in the opening exchanges but the striker had little created for him. Brought off for Van Wolfswinkel.
