The visitors outplayed Tony Pulis' men and grabbed a deserved win at the Britannia Stadium to ease the pressure on beleaguered manager Roy Hodgson

West Bromwich Albion grabbed all three points from Stoke City with a dramatic 2-1 win to pick up their first victory of the New Year.

James Morrison gave the visitors a first-half lead before Cameron Jerome equalised in the closing stages after Jon Walters had seen his 70th minute penalty saved. However, a last-gasp Graham Dorrans free-kick evaded the hosts' defence as well as Thomas Sorensen to secure the win and relieve the pressure on Baggies boss Roy Hodgson.

The home side made one change to the team that drew with Liverpool, with Ryan Shotton replacing Wilson Palacios in midfield, while Marc Antoine-Fortune, Jonas Olsson, Gabriel Tamas and match-winner Dorrans all returned to the Baggies line-up as Hodgson shuffled his pack.

Potters keeper Sorensen didn't have too much to do during the opening exchanges but was called into action after Morrison forced a picturesque diving save from the big Dane on the 26th minute with the Scotland international's long-range drive from a counter-attack bound for the top corner.

Stoke had little possession in the first half, employing a characteristically direct style which rarely tested West Brom's back four.

Thrown away | Stoke surrended their point to a late Baggies winner

The Baggies' volition and passing continued to overrun their hosts, and the visitor's pressure was rewarded as Morrison drove another long-range shot from centre on the 30th minute. The ball swerved wickedly in front of the Stoke keeper, who reacted late and could only watch the ball trickle in the net behind him.

Stoke did little in reply, ultimately entering the tunnel at half-time without a shot on target against the relegation candidates.

Tony Pulis' men emerged for the second half in finer shape but continued to offer little attacking intent, with the visitors playing the superior football and looking the more likely winners.

However, the hosts were granted a lifeline with 20 minutes remaining when Gareth McAuley felled Walters in the area and referee Anthony Taylor awarded the penalty despite fierce protestations from Hodgson's men

But Baggies stopper Ben Foster continued his excellent match by guessing right to save Walter's tame spot-kick and preserve the visitor's lead.

Despite the setback however, the home side finally equalised just before the death as Jerome nodded in substitute Jermaine Pennant's cross with only minutes remaining to seemingly seal a share of the points.

But right before the final whistle, Dorrans fired from a free-kick from long-range which bundled through the crowded area and into the Stoke net after squeezing past a number of players to give Hodgson breathing space and the Baggies their first victory of the New Year.
