John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "The full-time whistle is met with booing from the home crowd here at St Mary's, with the fans likely to be upset with their side for a fairly poor display as well as the referee for handing out two red cards to their team. Southampton played okay but didn't create any chances of note, leaving West Brom to pick them off on the counter-attack, so they can't really complain about the defeat. As for the red cards, we'll have to wait and see what Mauricio Pochettino makes of them later. Steve Clarke will be very happy indeed with the 3-0 win, on the other hand, although one of his players, Marc Antoine-Fortune, also saw red for his angry reaction to Gaston Ramirez's elbow on Shane Long."
West Brom take back a win from the St Mary's Stadium having defeated Southampton 3-0 following an intelligent performance away from home. The Saints had good spells of possession and constructed attacks well until late in the match, but the Baggies' neat counter-attacks cut through the home defence throughout the match and Steve Clarke's side deserved the win. Marc-Antoine Fortune netted the first goal after bundling home following a corner, but after assisting the opener Romelu Lukaku went on to receive several chances to extend the lead on the counter attack. The 19-year-old's power and pace in combination with a fluid West Brom attack was too much for Southampton to handle, and he extended the lead mid-way through the second half on the counter. Substitute Gaston Ramirez became frustrated and got himself sent off after lashing out soon afterwards, with Fortune dismissed in the aftermath, before Shane Long netted a third on the break and Danny Fox was dismissed for a dangerous challenge as West Brom underlined their dominance as they collected their first win in five matches.
90' + 4'
The referee blows the full-time whistle. The away fans can be heard chanting the name of the scorer of today's second goal, the on-loan Romelu Lukaku, who could be heading back to Chelsea ahead of next season.
90' + 3'
Mayuka turns on the edge of the box before shooting wide of the right post in what looks like the last minute of the match.
90' + 1'
Substitute Jerome Thomas attempts to receive a through ball down the left flank but Clyne is in position to make the interception.
Mayuka receives the ball on the edge of the box and attempts to flick the ball past his opponent, but the ball runs through to keeper Foster.
10-man West Brom are calmly keeping possession against 9-man Southampton with the match having just five minutes remaining after three late dismissals.
Jonas Olsson gives the ball away on the edge of his box to Southampton substitute Emmanual Mayuka, and the forward passes across the box to Rodriguez before the forward shoots narrowly wide.
Red Card Daniel Fox
Danny Fox is sent off for a dangerous two-footed challenge on Steven Reid on the edge of the West Brom box.
Southampton win a free kick on the left edge of the box and Lambert powerfully shoots his effort towards the top left corner, but the ball flies narrowly wide.
Assist Romelu Lukaku
Goal Shane Long
West Brom net a third goal through Shane Long! Lukaku outmuscles Maya Yoshida to win the ball and slides in a neat pass to Long running in from the left flank. The striker slots the ball in between the legs of keeper Artur Boruc to finish neatly and put the game beyond the hosts.
Ben Foster picks out Lukaku high up the pitch with an excellent drop kick and the Belgium international shows impressive control to get around Clyne. As he appears to have the goal at his mercy, Southampton defenders manage to reach him and he lays the ball off to Morrison whose shot is blocked.
Danny Fox attempts to cross the ball from the left flank and Steven Reid blocks the effort for a corner. The delivery runs through to Lambert and the striker clips the ball back across goal before Yoshida's cross is cleared.
Red Card Marc-Antoine Fortune
Red Card G. Ramírez
Gaston Ramirez and Marc-Antoine Fortune are each sent off! Ramirez appears to lash out with his elbow at Shane Long after he is pressured while in possession, and after McAuley remonstrates with the Southampton attacker, Fortune slaps the Uruguay international in the face and is likewise dismissed in an unseemly melee that is not in character with the earlier game's events.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Romelu Lukaku finally beats Southampton keeper Artur Boruc at the fourth time of asking to make it 2-0 to West Brom. Marc Antoine-Fortune plays the Belgian in behind before he rounds the Pole and finishes into the empty net."
Assist Marc-Antoine Fortune
Goal Romelu Lukaku
Marc-Antoine Fortune turns well under pressure from Hooiveld and picks out Lukaku running in from the left flank through the defence with a neat through ball. Lukaku rounds Boruc and slots the ball into an empty net from the left edge of the box.
Lambert heads across the box but none of his teammates are able to receive the ball.
Ramirez attempts a through-ball but Yacob is able to intercept the effort and tries to launch a quick counter-attack, however Southampton are able to win back possession.
Yellow Card Liam Ridgewell
Clyne clears a flighted ball away from Lukaku and West Brom win a throw-in on the left flank. Ridgewell commits a foul on his opponent after he is dispossessed by Gaston Ramirez and receives a yellow card.
Each side are sitting deeper and as a result neither have had much success in building attacks through the middle as in the first half.
Clyne shepherds Lukaku's cross from the right flank away from Long, and wins a free kick after he is fouled by the striker who was dedicated in applying pressure.
Steven Davis cleverly passes to Clyne inside the box with the outside of his right foot, and the right back clips the bar with a shot taken from a tight angle.
Yellow Card Daniel Fox
The second half has started at a less frantic pace as each side has sat a bit deeper leaving less space in behind for the other side to attack.
Hooiveld finds Ramirez with a neat long ball out of defence and the Uruguay international creates space for a shot but his strike flies disappointingly high and wide.
Ramirez's corner is dealt with by the West Brom defence and West Brom are able to clear with a goal kick.
Southampton keep the ball in midfield and look to build an attack, before the two side's exchange possession. Ramirez wins a corner from McAuley after holding the ball up on the left edge of the box.
The second half gets underway at St Mary's Stadium.
Playmaker Gaston Ramirez appears in place of holding midfielder Jack Cork in an attacking change from Southampton, and Steven Davis will now play in the centre of the park alongside Schneiderlin.
The first-half has taken place at a frantic place, as Southampton have combined well in attack throughout despite creating few clear chances against a well-organised West Brom defence. The Baggies in contrast have looked to attack quickly on the break and striker Romelu Lukaku has had a string of shots saved by keeper Artur Boruc. When West Brom attack quickly Southampton have on occasion been able to in turn launch a counter attack into the space the Baggies have left, but equally often Steve Clarke's side have been halted at the expense of a free kick or a corner. It was from a corner that Marc-Antoine Fortune put the Baggies ahead following a goal-mouth scramble, resulting in part from the Saints' decision to leave the posts uncovered, but the result is by no means decided and the game looks likely to yield further goals based on the course of the first half.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Just one early goal separates the two sides at the break here at St Mary's, with West Brom holding the lead after Marc Antoine-Fortune's scrappy opener. It's been a bit of a weird one since the goal, though, with Southampton looking good on the ball but failing to create any real chances of note. Down the other end, however, Artur Boruc has done well to deny Romelu Lukaku three times as the Baggies look to pick of the hosts on the break."
45' + 2'
Southampton players quarrel with the referee over the position of a free kick in the centre circle before eventually lofting the ball forward. West Brom counter attack but the move breaks down and the referee blows the half-time whistle.
45' + 1'
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Artur Boruc denies Romelu Lukaku for the third time after the West Brom forward finds some space in the Southampton penalty box. The hosts' defence was all over the place there and, although the dominant side with the ball at the moment, they need to be careful not to concede again."
45' + 1'
West Brom's attackers combine neatly on the edge of the box and Lukaku receives the ball inside the penalty area from Long, but his shot is saved by Boruc.
Dorrans takes a corner from the right flank and McAuley directs a free header towards goal but his effort is blocked.
Boruc is forced to put the ball out for a throw-in after being pressured in possession following a heavy back-pass.
When the Saints' attack breaks down West Brom counter at lightning pace but the Southampton defenders are quick to track back and Long aimlessly shoots wide from outside the box.
Lallana cleverly combines with Fox and Schneiderlin on the edge of the box before Olsson heads away his cross. Lallana receives the ball again and crosses from the left flank, but this time his teammate cannot connect properly with the cross which rolls harmlessly away from goal.
Yacob is called over for a word with the referee after a challenge in the Southampton box. The Argentine has previously been given a yellow card.
Lukaku drifts across the box to the left flank and his cross is headed out for another corner, but the Saints are able to clear.
Schneiderlin concedes a free kick after Morrison and Long show excellent energy to win the ball when Morrison chases down Jack Cork and dispossesses him with a sliding challenge.
Long is called offside as he attempts to receive a cross from Liam Ridgewell on the left flank.
Yellow Card Claudio Yacob
Lambert takes the resulting free kick but curls it wide of the top right corner.
James Morrison combines with Steven Reid on the right flank but overhits his cross, and as Southampton counter, Yacob receives a yellow card for a pull-back on Jay Rodriguez.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Nathaniel Clyne fires over for Southampton but the defender should really do better, the ball comes to him at the back post after no-one could connect with Rickie Lambert's low cross but his strike is deflected behind."
Lambert receives the ball on the left edge of the box and crosses for Clyne, who picks up the ball in space inside the right edge of the box before his powerful shot is put behind for a corner by Foster, which the Baggies are able to clear.
Southampton win a corner on the right flank and McAuley nervily heads behind for a corner as he nearly heads the ball into the top right corner of his own goal. Fox takes another corner, and West Brom's attempt at a counter breaks down after a poor pass from Lukaku, and Southampton are able to win another corner before West Brom clear.
Yellow Card Jos Hooiveld
Jos Hooiveld receives a yellow card for pulling back Fortune as he looks to break clear of the defence down the right flank. Dorrans swings in an accurate delivery towards Olsson who finds an abundance of space at the back post, but the Sweden international's volley across goal appears neither shot nor volley and drifts wide.
West Brom centre-back Jonas Olsson heads wide from the corner after the deep delivery from the left flank.
Clyne makes a vital challenge on the edge of the box to take the ball off the toes of Long as the Republic of Ireland striker looks set to reach a Lukaku flick-on following a neat combination with Fortune.
Jack Cork wins a corner after dribbling into the right edge of the box before he is tackled by Claudio Yacob. Danny Fox takes an accurate inswinging delivery with his left foot towards Lambert at the back post, but McAuley expertly heads the ball away under heavy pressure.
The game is being played at a high tempo as Southampton attempt to keep possession and press high up the pitch while West Brom look to counter-attack through the centre of the pitch.
Schneiderlin challenges for the ball with Dorrans and concedes a free kick for a high foot.
Danny Fox takes a corner from the right flank but Southampton are able to head clear.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Artur Boruc comes to Southampton's rescue after some absolutely wonderful football from West Brom. Graham Dorrans, James Morrison and Romelu Lukaku are all involved as the Baggies seamlessly work the ball to the big striker, but his shot is fairly weak and the Saints keeper makes the stop."
West Brom put together an excellent combination of passes just outside Southampton's box and Dorrans slides a pass to Lukaku on the right edge of the penalty area, however the striker's shot is saved.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Southampton have reacted well to going a goal behind and have enjoyed the better of the play since as Rickie Lambert heads over after Steven Davis' cross before Jay Rodriguez also nods one over the bar."
Rodriguez plays an excellent ball across the pitch to Adam Lallana, then runs into the box to receive the cross, which he heads narrowly wide.
Clyne takes a throw-in from the right flank and Steven Davis crosses the ball in to Lambert, who heads wide under pressure from McAuley.
Southampton retain the ball on the right edge of the Saints' box and eventually Rickie Lambert almost gets on the end of an inswinging cross as he runs towards the far post, but the ball runs out for a goal kick.
Romelu Lukaku attempts to head a long ball into the path of Shane Long but the linesman rules offside.
Southampton have kept a high tempo following the concession and looking to keep possession, while West Brom attempt to attack quickly on the counter as they have done all season.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "West Brom have taken an early lead here at St Mary's. Artur Boruc made a fantastic save to deny Romelu Lukaku but from the resulting corner Marc Antoine-Fortune pokes the ball home after a bit of a goal-mouth scramble involving himself, Boruc again and Nathaniel Clyne."
Goal Marc-Antoine Fortune
Marc-Antoine Fortune bundles the ball in following a corner! The delivery from the right flank is headed towards goal by Gareth McAuley and again by Romelu Lukaku and as Southampton struggle to clear, Fortune attacks the ball at the far post and rolls the ball towards the goal line. Boruc is able to block the shot but Fortune gets a second attempt and the Saints' defenders massed on the goal line are unable to stop the shot. A defender on the post could potentially have prevented that goal, but West Brom are now 1-0 up.
Romelu Lukaku runs into the right channel to receive a clever long ball from Steven Reid and shoots across goal forcing a save from Artur Boruc and resulting in a corner.
West Brom win a corner and Southampton keeper Artur Boruc punches away Graham Dorrans' delivery.
Jay Rodriguez looks to have harried Gareth McAuley into conceding a corner but the referee awards a goal kick.
West Brom win a throw-in and Marc-Antoine Fortune puts a low cross into the box which is blocked by the Saints' defence.
Nathaniel Clyne is forced to make an interception on the edge of his box to prevent a West Brom attempted through-ball finding its target in the box.
Adam Lallana picks up the ball on the right edge of the box and skips past his marker before crossing towards Morgan Schneiderlin at the near post, but keeper Ben Foster is alert to catch the cross.
Southampton get the game underway at St Mary's Stadium.
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "The sun is just about creeping through here at St Mary's, but it is still bitterly cold as the south coast wind fights back while the two sets of players try and warm up on the pitch. As for the fans, the ground is filling up slowly but it's the away supporters making all the noise at the moment."
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Steve Clarke will be a little bit disappointed at West Brom's recent form going into this clash - four matches without victory may be a sign of some relaxation on his players' part in these latter stages of the season. All in all, though, the Baggies manager should be delighted with the team's exerts this season with the club well on course for a comfortable top-half finish."
John Stammers at St Mary's Stadium: "Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, as well as keeper Artur Boruc and defender Maya Yoshida, have recently hinted at Saints' Champions League aspirations - indicating there is no reason why they can't qualify for the competition in the not-too-distant future. The Argentine's first priority, though, will be to make 100 per cent sure of the club's Premier League safety. A point this afternoon will take them on to 40, which is considered the magic number for survival. Should they stay up they will become the first newly promoted club to do so after losing their first three matches - with Saints in fact losing their first four this season."
West Brom's Youssuf Mulumbu is still suspended while Chris Brunt is out injured, so Graham Dorrans starts in central midfield alongside James Morrison and Claudio Yacob. Billy Jones is injured and Steven Reid returns to the starting line up at right back, while Goran Popov is also replaced by Liam Ridgewell at left-back. Shane Long returns to the starting XI in attack alongside Marc-Antoine Fortune and Romelu Lukaku.
Southampton are unchanged from last time out with Luke Shaw picking up a fresh injury after recovering from a virus. Morgan Schneiderlin recovers from a knock to start while Gaston Ramirez is on the bench as Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Steven Davis continue behind Rickie Lambert.
West Brom starting line-up: Foster; Reid, Olsson, McAuley, Ridgewell; Dorrans, Yacob; Lukaku, Morrison, Fortune; Long. Subs: Myhill; Thomas, Jones, Odemwingie, Rosenberg, D Daniels, Tamas.
Southampton: Boruc; Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Fox; Cork, Schneiderlin; Lallana, S.Davis, Rodriguez; Lambert. Subs: K.Davis, Fonte, Forren, Ramirez, Puncheon, Mayuka, Guly
John Stammers LIVE: "Greetings from St Mary's where Southampton host West Brom this afternoon. At the start of the season plenty may have expected these two sides to be fighting off relegation at this stage, but that certainly isn't the case for eighth-placed Baggies and thanks to their impressive late surge Saints are also now pushing for a top-half finish. The rain is threatening to pour down, and we've already had a few short bursts, but hopefully that doesn't dampen the two sides and we can look forward to a good game of football."
