So that's it from me on a superb day for anyone of a Southampton persuasion. This is Nicholas McGee, signing off!
That is the Saints second win on the bounce and one which they fully deserve. Nigel Adkins' patience looks to be paying off as his side begin to pull away from danger. For Newcastle it is a third consecutive defeat and at the moment it is difficult to see how they will turn this abysmal run to an end.
The referee blows to bring the contest to an end and confirm a fantastic three points for Southampton.

We are in the second minute of four minutes of added time at St Mary's.
Papiss Cisse goes close for Newcastle, the Senegalese hits a volley on the turn which creeps over the bar.
Southampton have the ball in the net again as Jay Rodriguez slots past Krul, however the former Burnley man's effort is chalked off for offside.
Yellow Card Cheikh Tiote
Yet another fine stop from Krul who blocks to prevent Lallana from adding a third.
Southampton are in cruise control at the moment. Newcastle are not going to get anything from this game and need the final whistle to come sooner rather than later.
Another great chance for the hosts as Jose Fonte heads against the crossbar from the resulting corner.
Never have a side looked as short on confidence as Newcastle do now. Tim Krul is called upon again as he produces a good save to deny Steven Davis.
Newcastle are trying to push forward and pull a goal back but it is Southampton who look the more dangerous to the two teams. Saints' boss Nigel Adkins must be delighted with his side's effort.
Newcastle would be back in this one if not for Paulo Gazzaniga, the Argentine dives brilliantly to his right to prevent Davide Santon's header from finding the bottom corner. At the other end Ramirez goes down in the box again but the referee refutes claims for a penalty once more.
Southampton are in fine fettle right now and the excellent Jason Puncheon almost makes it 3-0 as his left-footed effort hits the post.
Yellow Card G. Ramírez
Half a chance for the visitors as Tiote curls a shot just over the bar. It doesn't look like being Newcastle's day.
Shouts for a penalty from the home fans as Ramirez goes down in the box, the referee is not interested however and waves away the protests.
The Saints' fans are in celebratory mood and who can blame them, their heroes are good value for their two goal lead and look like moving up the Premier League table.
Goal G. Ramírez
Southampton have doubled their lead and that should be game over. Gaston Ramirez stabbing into the net from point-blank range after great work from Lallana, whose ball in was spilled by Krul. Worrying times for the Magpies.
Southampton go close to adding a second as Krul denies Ramirez with a great save following a quick break from the Saints.
Another chance for Newcastle and it's their best one of the game as Gazzaniga blocks a Cisse effort after the Senegalese was played through by Anita.
Vurnon Anita plays a corner into Demba Ba, whose header is well saved by Paulo Gazzaniga.
Not much to report in the early stages of this second period, Newcastle need that to change and fast.
It's been a quiet start to the second half, Newcastle have had more of the ball but are still doing little with it.
Newcastle get the second half underway. The Magpies made one change at half-time, Sammy Ameobi replacing Shane Ferguson.
The referee blows for half-time and it's been a very satisfying one for Southampton. They deserve the one goal lead which Adam Lallana's strike has given them. Newcastle look toothless going forward and Alan Pardew will need to rally his troops if they are to turn this around.
There will be one minute of added time at the end of the first half.
Yellow Card Mike Williamson
The atmosphere has died down a little at St Mary's. Rickie Lambert curls a free-kick over the bar.
Newcastle seem to have weathered the storm a little but have offered nothing as an attacking force.
Newcastle are all over the place and Southampton should be 2-0 up, Steven Taylor saving the visitors as he slides in to block a close-range shot from Morgan Schneiderlin.
Assist G. Ramírez
Goal Adam Lallana
Southampton lead and it's Adam Lallana who breaks the deadlock. Lambert plays a superb ball over the top for Puncheon, Krul clears but the ball is pumped back into the box for Ramirez to square to Lallana, who pokes into an empty net.
Southampton win a free-kick on the edge of the area, Lambert steps up and curls an effort against the crossbar.
Excellent save from Tim Krul, the Dutchman performs heroics to block Puncheon's effort from Rickie Lambert's pull back.
Southampton win a corner, which is initially cleared by the visitors, the ball is immediately pumped back into the box and Ramirez heads wide of the goal.
Southampton clear a dangerous looking set-piece from Shane Ferguson, the Saints quickly counter and win a free kick of their own when Ferguson fouls Lallana. Ramirez's low strike is well saved by Krul.
Yellow Card José Fonte
Newcastle have enjoyed a good spell of possession in the last few minutes and they are starting to mount some pressure on the Southampton goal. Jose Fonte is booked for a foul on Papiss Cisse.
Almost a hairy moment for the visitors as Cheikh Tiote plays a dangerous backpass towards Tim Krul, who has to scramble and clear to prevent Rickie Lambert from latching on to the ball.
The rain is coming down heavily in Southampton, and that is just about the most exciting thing happening at the moment.
There hasn't been much to shout about in the early flings of this contest. Newcastle look well organised and you get the feeling it could be quite difficult for the Saints to break them down this afternoon.
Good play from Jason Puncheon as he breaks down the right hand side before firing in a cross which is well cleared by the Newcastle defence.
It's all gone a bit quiet here on the south coast, Southampton are doing most of the pressing but the Magpies are defending well.
Nathaniel Clyne shoots from distance for the Saints, his effort is deflected just past the post by Adam Lallana.
Newcastle are beginning to take control here in the early going. Demba Ba heads wide from a decent cross from Shane Ferguson.
Southampton make a decent start and won a corner inside the opening minute. However, that chance fell to nothing and Newcastle are beginning to settle,
We're underway at St Mary's.
It's a first return to Southampton for Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, who receives a good reception from the home fans.
We're just minutes away from kick-off at St Mary's, which is packed to the rafters.
Substitutes: Harper, Perch, Bigirimana, Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Ranger, Tavernier.
Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Taylor, Santon; Gutierrez, Anita, Tiote, Ferguson; Cisse, Ba.
Substitutes: Kelvin Davis, Hooiveld, Steven Davis, Rodriguez, Ward-Prowse, Mayuka, Guly.
Southampton: Gazzaniga; Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Shaw; Puncheon, Schneiderlin, Cork, Lallana, Ramirez; Lambert.
We start, as always, with the two teams....
