Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
England claim a point to remain unbeaten in Group F, but Gareth Southgate will not be pleased with their performance. Joe Hart kept Slovenia at bay early in the second half to deny Jasmin Kurtic and Rene Khrin, while Josip Illicic almost missed a good opportunity to go with Kurtic and Roman Bezjak's failures in the first half.

90' + 3' Cahill sends a long ball forward in desperation attempting to pick out Rashford, but the striker is well marked by two Slovenia defenders, as the ball heads straight out for a goal-kick.

81' Verbic goes down with an injury as England prepare to take a throw-in, although it appears the Slovenia midfielder is fine to continue.

77' SHOT! Lingard plays Sturridge into space inside the box and he has Rooney racing clear at the back post, but he scuffs his strike straight at Oblak.
75' CHANCE! Cahill lofts a great ball for Rose over the top and the left-back cuts in from the flank to drive a low effort at goal, only to put his shot just wide of the post.
W. Rooney
D. Alli
England
73' Alli makes way for Rooney to make an apperance from the bench.
72' Townsend almost unlocks the Slovenia defence as he cuts in from the right and curls a cross to the back post, but Verbic gets back to head the ball away from the lurking presence of Alli.
71' England are all over the place here. Every pass at the back is riddled with nerves, there's just no confidence at all between Stones, Cahill, Dier and Henderson.
69' CHANCE! Henderson makes a horrendous error sending the ball back to Cahill as Illicic pounces on it ahead of the defender. He races through on goal, but Hart comes out to narrow the angle and to make another great save.

67' There's a delay to proceedings as Cesar has gone down with an injury and will be forced off here.

52' The home side clear the danger from an England corner and keep the pressure on as the ball returns to Henderson. He tries to beat Jokic's challenge, but he can only send the ball out for a throw-in.
50' Slovenia threaten through the middle and Birsa has space and time to line up a strike, only to blast his effort off Cahill who makes a good block. It's all hands on deck for England at the back.
48' SAVE! Kurtic swings the ball in from the right again and this time it almost beats the England keeper at the near post, but he makes a great reaction save to somehow keep the ball out of the net. He hurts himself in the process and requires treatment on the pitch as Fraser Forster warms up on the sideline.
47' SAVE! Krhin makes contact with the header at the near post and Hart just manages to claw it away from goal to send it behind. A great save from the England stopper.

46' We're back underway at the Stadion Stozice.
England have been lacklustre in the final third and have been unable to create any clear-cut opportunities. Their best effort may have come from Daniel Sturridge, but that failed to threaten Jan Oblak. Gareth Southgate has his first big test as interim boss at the interval.
It's goalless at the break at Stadion Stozice, but Slovenia will be rueing their missed opportunities in the first half. They all came at once as Roman Berzak seized on Eric Dier's loose backpass, but his effort was saved by Joe Hart, while Jasmin Kurtic struck the post with the rebound.
HALF-TIME: SLOVENIA 0-0 ENGLAND

40' Another free-kick is one by the visitors as Alli gets fouled by Krhin. Can the Three Lions make use of this set-piece?

31' Sturridge to have adjudged to have caught Krhin with a late boot, but replays show that might have been harsh on the forward as he goes into the book.
29' Lingard has struggled thus far into the contest as his problems are on full display as he tries to beat the challenge of Struna on the left, but gets blocked off by the right-back in a show of strength.

Yellow Card
England
20' Dier goes into the book for a late challenge on Illicic.

18' Lingard loses possession in the final third and Struna hits a long ball forward to get Stones on the turn. The Man City defender has Verbic for company, but does well to smash off the legs of the Slovenia winger to earn a goal-kick.
16' The Three Lions are giving away a lot of niggly free-kicks in the middle of the pitch in the early stages, which is giving the home side a decent platform to probe at the England backline.
14' Sturridge turns Cesar with ease and breaks into the box, but goes down under pressure from Krhin. He appeals for a penalty, but the referee dismisses his claims.
12' A let off for England and the home side have definitely started well in the final third thus far. Southgate will want to see his team control the midfield a lot better than they're doing at the moment.
10' CHANCES!!! Slovenia should be ahead as Bezjak capitalises on a mistake from Dier, but Hart comes out to narrow the angle and makes the save with his body. The home side pour men forward on the rebound and Kurtic collects on the left. He strikes a curling effort at goal, but it clatters off the post, while Bezjak fails to connect on the follow-up.
9' Cesar fails to control the ball deep in his own half and Sturridge seizes possession. The Liverpool man lines up a strike from distance, but sends his strike well over the bar.
8' The Three Lions fail to clear the danger from the edge of their own box as Rose and Stones display lapses in concentration. Birsa strikes an effort from 18 yards, but sends his effort well wide of the target.
7' Henderson gets caught in possession down the right and Slovenia break over to the right to Verbic, but the winger slows down the play, which allows England to get men back behind the ball.
5' Cahill climbs on the back of Cesar as he attempts to win the ball from the set-piece and the referee awards a free-kick.
4' England break forward through Henderson and Alli, with the latter sliding a throughball into the path of Sturridge. However, the striker takes a poor first touch and allows Oblak to send it behind for a corner.
3' Ilicic puts Stones under pressure at the back, but the centre-back uses close control to evade the Slovenia forward and come forward with the ball.
2' Rose tees up Sturridge on the edge of the box and the Liverpool man strikes at goal, only to curl his effort past the post and away from the lurking Walcott at the back stick.
1' Rose makes an early surge forward from left-back and he wins England a free-kick in a central area 35 yards from goal.
1' We're underway at the Stadion Stozice.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
Slovenia are unchanged from their victory over Slovakia. That means despite scoring the winning goal in the contest Kronaveter has to settle for a place on the bench. Roman Bezjak and Josip Illicic continue to lead the line for Katanec's men this evening.
Rooney starts from the bench for England this evening, prompting suggestions that his illustrious career could be on the decline. Eric Dier gets the nod to start ahead of him in the middle of the park, while the other change for the Three Lions sees Danny Rose come into the side at left-back to replace the injured Ryan Bertrand.

The team news has been confirmed, and here are the line-ups, beginning with the home side.
A win for Slovenia tonight could see them surpass England at the top of the group, meaning that there is a lot at stake for both teams, despite it being just the third game of qualifying.
Slovenia will provide a tough challenge for England this evening, having seen off the threat of Slovakia at the weekend. Rok Kronaveter scored the only goal of that game in the 74th minute to hand Sreko Katanec's men the three points and their opening victory of qualifying.
The Three Lions put in a stuttering performance against Malta in their clash on Saturday. Although they recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory, Southgate will want to see more from his team in his second game in charge as England to open up a gap at the top of Group F.
The big news from the England camp concerns of course captain Wayne Rooney and Gareth Southgate's decision to drop the 30-year-old this evening. The armband has passed to Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, who will lead the Three Lions out tonight in the Stadion Stozice.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the World Cup qualifying clash between Slovenia and England.
