Made the age-old goalkeeping error of rushing out for a ball that he was never going to get to first and paid a hefty price, giving away a penalty for which he was sent off. That his moment of madness came just eight minutes into the game only compounded matters.
Had a good game at the back for Roma - which was the perfect riposte to the disgraceful racial abuse he had to endure from the Lazio fans. Made two wonderfully-timed challenges in the first half, competed well with Klose in the air and also had a hand in the goal as it was the Brazilian's shot against the crossbar which Borini was on hand to follow up. Quite what he was doing for Mauri's winner is anyone's guess but he went some way towards making up for that with a goal-saving tackle on Hernanes later in the half.
The youngster had a pretty solid game and nullified the threat posed by Lazio down the right-hand side, while at the same time getting forward on occasion - albeit to little effect.
Gave away a free kick on the edge of his area in the first half after trying to play the ball on the ground under pressure from Klose and also looked like a ticking time bomb in the closing stages. In addition, Lazio's winner stemmed from his clumsy challenge on Matuzalem in midfield, with Mauri scoring from the resulting free kick.
It was telling that most of Lazio's attacking threat came down their left-hand side, with Taddei struggling to contain Mauri throughout. Tried to get forward in the latter stages but did not offer much going forward.
Hard not to feel desperately sorry for the Argentine, whose derby ended after just nine minutes after being hauled off in order to allow Roma to get another goalkeeper on the field following the dismissal of Stekelenburg.
Plugged away in midfield and played a couple of neat balls in behind the Lazio defence but his influence waned as the game wore on and he was responsible for putting Hernanes straight in on goal with a dreadful misplaced pass.
D. De Rossi
Recalled after being banished to the stands for last weekend's defeat to Atalanta and you could not fault his enthusiasm or determination. However, he was suspect defensively at times and just wasn't really his usual inspirational self.
Unlucky in that he was forced off with an injury early in the second half but, truth to be told, he wasn't a great loss to Roma. Indeed, his replacement, Marquinho, looked far more menacing and brought some real penetration to the left-hand side of the Roma midfield.
Full of running throughout and while his goal was not exactly pretty, he did wonderfully well to score given the ball had come flying at him via the crossbar. Had a chance to level the game at the end but he got under Marquinho's cross from the left wing.
Not at his best but was still heavily involved. His free kicks were dire for the most part but he did threaten from distance on occasion and he was also unlucky to see a fine header flash by the right post late on. Also drew an awful lot of fouls.
Absolutely nothing he could do about Borini's equaliser and the Roma goal aside, he had very little to do. Most of Roma's efforts on goal were either tame or wayward. Comfortable afternoon for the most part.
One could easily argue that his first booking was harsh, as he appeared to make very little contact with Borini as the forward tried to get on the end of a pass from Simplicio, but he was treading on thin ice thereafter, making his lunge on Bojan late on ridiculously stupid.
One of several Lazio players to be booked and was perhaps fortunate not to have picked up a second yellow for taking out Totti in the closing stages. However, overall, he had a pretty decent game.
Went into the referee's notebook for a committed challenge on Totti - even though he seemed to get most of the ball. However, he'll be satisfied with a display which vindicated his selection.
Went about his business competently and with the minimum of fuss, as underlined by the fact that he was the only member of the Biancocelesti back four not to be booked.
Worked hard and also created the winner for Mauri with a terrific free kick from a deep position.
Made and created the penalty with a wonderful ball through for Klose. His spot-kick was coolly tucked away. However, he featured only sporadically thereafter and he also squandered a golden opportunity to make the game safe for Lazio after being put straight through by Simplicio by waiting too long to get a shot away.
Called Lobont into action on a couple of occasions but never really made the most of the possession which came his way and was on the fringes for long periods.
The Brazilian played on the edge all afternoon and it was surprising that in a game of so many cards, he only collected one. Was commitment personified throughout but by no means at his best.
Was not particularly prominent early on but definitely grew into the game and, after his extremely well-taken goal, he was a constant threat whenever Lazio broke. A captain's performance.
Ploughed a lone furrow up front on his own all afternoon - which he did to good effect. He won the penalty by beating Stekelenburg to Hernanes' pass and also offered a great target every time that Lazio got the ball wide. Set up a couple of great chances for his skipper Mauri in the second half but probably ended up disappointed that he didn't get as good service from his midfielders.
Came on for Stekelenburg after just nine minutes and was immediately sent the wrong way by Hernanes' penalty. Didn't really put a foot wrong thereafter, though, and could not be blamed in any way for the winner.

Came on for Juan in the closing stages and really put himself about, winning a couple of corners as well as a number of free kicks, one of which led to Scaloni seeing red. However, he was then booked himself and never really looked like scoring.
Thrown on in place of Pjanic and made a real difference, offering Roma a good outlet down the left wing. He put over a number of good crosses, one of which perhaps should have been converted by Borini. He also played a wonderful ball into Bojan which resulted in Scaloni being dismissed.

Thrown on late on for Hernanes and did what was expected of him by winning a couple of headers.

Replaced Mauri shortly before the end and made a real nuisance of himself with his energy and unwillingness to give up on a lost cause. Didn't get a sight of goal, though.
