Did not have too much to deal with in the match and was a spectator for a large majority of the 90 minutes. This perhaps showed as when was called into action he looked slightly shaky, most notably fumbling a punch in the six yard box that could have easily lead to a Lyon goal.
Enjoyed his freedom this evening as he did not have many defensive duties. Is starting to show a real understanding between himself and Ronaldo which is resulting in some excellent interplay down the left wing.
Toned down his performance from the weekend, which was full of more attacking ambition. Still remained solid and reliable as ever and effectively dealt with Bastos and Briand whenever they played against him on the wing.
His goal epitomised his performance this evening. He outmuscled Lyon defender Lovren to eventually grab his goal. He simply wanted it more and this shone through in his defending as well when he made one or two vital interceptions that would have saw Lyon through on goal.
Dealt with the threat of Gomis well and kept the Frenchman out of the game. However, was still guilty of rushing out from his position at times. A lapse of concentration lead to Lyon's best chance of the match when he passed the ball to the feet of Gourcuff just outside his own box. He was lucky that Briand was unable to capitalise with his chance.
Took his goal with a very accomplished finish and was dominant in the midfield. Did not give Gourcuff a sniff and was unlucky to be substituted with a head injury in the second half.
Had quite a lot of room in front of the Lyon defence but was unable to pick out his usual defence splitting passes. His best moment came slightly deeper when he linked up with Xabi Alonso to spread the play. May be credited with third strike although it is likely that it will go down as a Lloris own goal. However, earns points for getting in a very dangerous position.
Dictated the game in midfield and did so without much hassle from the Lyon players. Spread play magnificently and showed the impressive range of his passing.
Á. di María
A low key performance from the Argentine tonight. Did not seem as eager as usual to take players on and cut inside. Was perhaps limited by the amount of Lyon players behind the ball. Not a bad performance but did not affect the game too much.
A rare quiet game from the Madrid maestro. Had a few speculative shots when cutting in from the left-hand side although none managed to trouble Hugo Lloris. Took his foot off the gas in the second half and went through the motions of the game.
A very impressive performance this evening. Exuded class and confidence in every aspect of his play. Showed good instinct for his goal at the back post and was tremendously unselfish when setting up Khedira.
May be credited with an own goal after the ball snuck through his body for Real Madrid's third of the night. His positioning should have been much better for Ozil's shot and will be disappointed at the manner in which he conceded. Had no chance with any of the other goals.
Was overwhelmed by the pace, movement and skill of Ronaldo and Marcelo down the left-hand side. Is one of Lyon's most senior players but acted rashly in his defending at times.
Made some decent marauding runs into the Real Madrid half but more often than not he did not have any end product with his passes and crosses. Was solid in defence and kept Di Maria relatively quiet for most of the night.
Made one or two very rash challenges on the wings and was far too easily outmuscled by Sergio Ramos for his goal. Was part of a young defensive duo that could have benefited with a cool head at the back.
Was unfortunate when he slipped for Madrid's second goal. Did relatively well when it came to tackling, however his positioning let him down at times, which left a gaping hole in the defensive backline.
Did well to take the ball on runs and take the pressure off his teammates at points during the game. Was also intelligent in possession and did not surrender the ball back to Madrid like some of the other Lyon players. Showed moments of class but ultimately was too busy in his own half to cause Madrid problems.
Extremely disappointing in his return to the Lyon team. Was a passenger in the first half and when Lyon rarely found possession, the Frenchman was wasteful in his passing. Did not look sharp or fit at all.
Did his job fairly well in midfield. Dealt with Ronaldo coming in from the right very well at times and remained solid to deny him shots at goal. However, should have been more vigilant with the space behind him as Ozil had the freedom of the Bernabeu in which to work at times.
Barely touched the ball for the entire 90 minutes. Spent the match attempting to form a barrier in front of the defence with Fofana which did not entirely work. Lyon relied on him to keep the ball in midfield but he was unable to keep possession for long enough to take the play upfield.
Arguably had his team's best chance of the match when he took advantage of poor defending by Pepe to lash a half volley across goal from the right-hand side. Failed to keep a hold of the ball and take it for a run, which would have took pressure off his side.
Far too isolated up front to make any kind of mark of the game. Was a willing runner in and around opposition defenders but spent most of his time as a spectator when Real Madrid were camped in the Lyon half.
- 13 Adán
- 19 R. Varane
Slotted in nicely in midfield and took up the job of Khedira well.
Played with a lot of flair and determination after his introduction and enjoyed having space to go on some dribbles.
- 11 Granero
Second half substitution in place of Benzema.
