That's all from me for tonight guys and girls. What an exciting game! Stay tuned to Goal for all the post-match reaction on a historic win for Diego Simeone's side.
Congratulations to @adilmv, who correctly predicted Atletico would win this match 2-1. Spot on!
Thibaut Courtois was sensational for the visitors as they defied the odds to seal victory tonight. The goalkeeper – on-loan from Chelsea – produced two magnificent saves in extra-time to keep out Mesut Ozil and Gonzalo HIguain, after Madrid had already struck the woodwork three times in normal time.
FULL-TIME: REAL MADRID 1-1 (aet 1-2) ATLETICO MADRID Los Rojiblancos end 14 years of hurt with a momentous victory after extra-time at the Bernabeu! Atletico last beat Madrid in 1999, and tonight they secured their tenth Copa del Rey title thanks to goals from Diego Costa and Miranda after Cristiano Ronaldo had given Madrid the lead early on.
120' + 6'
THERE IS THE FINAL WHISTLE! ATLETI HAVE WON THEIR TENTH COPA DEL REY!!
120' + 5'
120' + 5'
ANOTHER RED CARD! GABI IS OFF! The Atleti midfielder is shown his second yellow card after catching Di Maria and now both teams are down to 10.
120' + 4'
Easy pickings for Courtois! The goalkeeper clutches the ball to his chest as if it is as precious as a new-born child, as Madrid waste another chance.
120' + 3'
Time is running out for Madrid. What have they got left in their locker? Mourinho's reign could be ending in defeat here.
120' + 2'
120' + 2'
Gabi throws himself to the floor in search of a free kick on the edge of the Madrid box but the referee tells him to get up as he waves play on. Neither side have covered themselves in glory in the past 15 minutes, it's been amateur theatre.
120' + 1'
There will be five minutes of added time here! Longest game ever?!
Yellow CardÁngel Di María
Garcia takes the ball into the corner for Atletico, but he doesn't keep the ball for long as Ramos steams across and wins possession for Madrid.
Di Maria dances into the box on the left for Madrid, and when his cross is blocked by Godin he appeals furiously for a penalty. I'm not sure what he's getting at there, and neither does the referee.
Gabi rejoins the fray after being treated by the Atleti physios following the clash with Ronaldo that led to the Portugal international's dismissal.
Three minutes left of extra-time, although there will no doubt be added time on top of that because of the altercations in the last few minutes.
There was a bit of a brawl on the touchline following the decision to send Ronaldo off, with Atletico's Costa right in the thick of it.
Courtois appears to have been struck by an object thrown from the crowd on the left, with Madrid fans situated in the seats behind the Atletico goal.
STRAIGHT RED FOR RONALDO!! The Madrid No. 7 lost his temper a number of times towards the end of normal time but I don't think he made contact with Gabi there! The referee showed him a red card after the linesman flagged as the two fell to the floor, and Gabi went down clutching his face.
Atleti will take that. Arbeloa catches Garcia on the shoulder and the midfielder crumples to the deck to waste some time.
Simeone makes two changes in quick succession as Cristian Rodriguez and Raul Garcia replace Koke and Turan.
STAT: Madrid are on a 43-match unbeaten run at the Bernabeu. Is that about to come to a very painful end?
MAGNIFICENT SAVE FROM COURTOIS! The Belgian goalkeeper pulls off one of the saves of the season to keep out Ozil's effort at the back post after the German was found by a super cross from Di Maria on the left wing.
That's poor from Alonso! The former Real Sociedad man has blown hot and cold tonight. His set pieces in particular have not been of their usual high standard. Not for the first time tonight he sends a free kick straight into the arms of Courtois.
The second half of extra-time begins here at the Bernabeu. What a game this has been! There are just 15 minutes left for Madrid to find a goal to stop Atleti winning their tenth Copa del Rey title.
105' + 2'
105' + 1'
105' + 1'
The referee blows his whistle to mark the end of the first half of extra-time. Atletico lead 2-1 thanks to Miranda's header in the 98th minute.
Koke is booked for encroaching a Madrid free kick on the right-hand side. Moments later Lopez is brought on for Costa – who has been fabulous for his team tonight.
GREAT STOP FROM COURTOIS!! The Atleti goalkeeper flings a leg out superbly to keep out Higuain's fizzing effort from close range.
Adrian Lopez is warming up on the touchline for Atletico. They will look to wind the clock down however they can now.
FALCAO FIRES JUST OVER!! The Colombian nearly creates daylight between the two sides with a wicked free kick that lands on the roof of Lopez's goal.
Yellow CardMichael Essien
More great play from Costa! The man who scored los Rojiblancos' first goal does brilliantly to win a free kick 20 yards from Madrid's goal after slaloming past a couple of challenges before being brought down by Essien.
Yellow CardMario Suárez
What will Madrid do now? They have battered Atletico since half-time, and have hit the post three times over the course of the game. You can here the Atletico fans cheering their team on from over to the right.
GOALLLL!!! MIRANDA HEADS ATLETI IN FRONT! Koke whips a cross in from the right and Miranda is the man attacking the ball for the visitors. He beats Lopez to the ball and heads it firmly into the back of the net. Simeone's side are 2-1 up in Madrid's backyard. Is their own la Decima on?
SUPER PLAY FROM ESSIEN!! The makeshift full-back sprints across to head the ball behind just as Falcao looks set to strike! Corner for Atletico.
Pepe screamed "Vamos!" from the Madrid technical area as Lopez kept those two shots from Costa out.
CHANCE FOR ATLETICO!! COSTA SHOULD SCORE!! The striker gets the wrong side of Arbeloa on the right side of the box but his scuffed effort at goal is blocked by Lopez. The ball falls straight to Costa but he stopped for the second time in the space of seconds by the alert goalkeeping of Lopez.
What is the referee doing? He's just awarded Atletico a free kick a few yards inside their own half for nothing as Ronaldo and Juanfran tussle for the ball.
Costa bursts down the right for Atleti but his bouncing cross does not reach Falcao in the box as Essien steps in to boot the ball away.
Di Maria's first involvement for the hosts is to hammer a free kick straight out of play. Not a great start for the Argentine!
Ángel Di María
Hello triple Madrid substitution! Classic Mourinho! On come Gonzalo HIguain, Angel Di Maria and Alvaro Arbeloa for Benzema, Coentrao and Modric. The first half of extra time is underway here at the Bernabeu.
90' + 5'
THIS FINAL IS GOING TO EXTRA TIME!
90' + 4'
Crucial interception from Modric! The ball bounces towards Falcao inside the box but the Madrid midfielder is there to hack it away.
90' + 4'
Corner to Atleti on the left, deep into added time. Can they score a momentous winner here?
90' + 3'
Yellow CardCristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo is going mad at the referee after what he perceives is a foul throw from Koke. The referee deems otherwise, and instead opts to book Ronaldo for dissent.
90' + 2'
The fourth official signals for four minutes of added time.
90' + 1'
And now Ronaldo is tangling with Gabi on the near side! Everyone was so well behaved in the first half. What's happened?
Just as Cata Diaz prepares to come on for the seemingly injured Juanfran, the right-back tells him to go back to the bench and makes his way back onto the pitch.
Juanfran goes down clutching his left leg after a fairly blatant kick from Ronaldo. The Madrid star is fairly fortunate not to get booked for that! The Atleti medical team are treating Juanfran following that altercation, and he is carefully helped off the pitch.
And now Falcao is penalised as he chases Coentrao! The last 10 minutes have been very stop-start here at the Bernabeu. Have either team got a moment of brilliance in them to win this final in normal time?
Some strong defending from Essien keeps the ball from Filipe, before the referee inexplicably awards the hosts a free kick. There have been some strange decisions in favour of either side tonight – that was one of them.
Six minutes left on the normal-time clock, with extra-time looming. The lack of substitutions from either coach suggests they are preparing for another 30 minutes here.
Not so good from Alonso... This time the former Liverpool man's lofted pass is far too high for Coentrao, as it glances off the head of the Portuguese international and goes out for an Atleti goal kick.
Alonso curls a free kick into the box but it is too close to Courtois, and he gathers the ball calmly with Benzema and Ronaldo breathing down his neck.
A marvellous cross-field pass from Xabi Alonso finds Benzema on the left, but he is unable to shake off the attentions of Juanfran, as the Spain international nicks the ball away from the Frenchman and sweeps it away.
It is strange to get to 78 minutes in a game and there to have been no substitutions from either side!
And here's Mourinho! The Madrid coach has been fairly quiet so far but he is making his feelings felt to the officials now. It looks like the former Inter boss has been sent to the stands after that outburst.
STAT: Atletico are on a 25-match winless run against Real in all competitions stretching back to October 1999.
Yellow CardSergio Ramos
The game is threatening to descend into anarchy as players from both sides begin to lose their composure. Gabi goes down after being caught by Ramos and the Madrid centre-back is the latest player to be shown a yellow card.
Madrid have been well on top in the second half, and have already come so close to scoring through Benzema, Ozil and Ronaldo since the interval. Can Atletico hold out 'til 90 minutes?
Yellow CardMesut Özil
PETULANT FROM OZIL! The German prompts the wrath/a yellow card from the referee after punching the ball into the stands when he is not awarded a free kick.
And there's the Costa we're used to seeing! The Atletico forward lunges into a challenge with Modric and is a long way from winning the ball. The referee shows no hesitation in showing Costa a yellow card for the foul.
The rebound falls to the left foot of Essien, but his effort is poor and the ball flies high over the crossbar. What a chance for the Ghanaian! Madrid cannot believe they aren't ahead here.
Yellow CardDiego Costa
AUDACIOUS FROM RONALDO! THE FREE KICK CRASHES OFF THE POST! The Madrid No. 7 slides the set piece under the Atletico wall as they jump in the air, but with Courtois in no-mans-land on the other side of the goal, the ball smashes off the woodwork.
FREE KICK TO MADRID!! A yard or so outside the Atleti box! I wonder who will take this...
The midfielder whips it onto the head of Suarez on the penalty spot, but his effort is off target.
Another set piece for Atleti to try and test Madrid from! This time they have a free kick on the left, and again it will be Koke that takes it.
Yellow CardSami Khedira
Khedira follows Coentrao into the referee's book after a needless foul on Costa 10 yards inside the Madrid half.
Modric is starting to pull the strings in midfield for Madrid here. The Croatia international's inclusion has pushed Ozil out to the right-hand side, but he is certainly having an impact in this second half with some teasing through balls to Ronaldo and Benzema.
Simeone's reaction to that passage of play was a joy to watch. He was going mad in front of the Atleti dugout, pumping his fist in the air and urging the Rojiblancos fans to get behind their team.
It wasn't even a weak effort from Ozil – he really hit that! Atletico have Juanfran to thank for keeping the score level there.
UNBELIEVABLE DEFENDING FROM JUANFRAN!! That is outrageous from the right-back! Madrid hit the post through Benzema after Ronaldo pounced on a loose ball on the left, before a certain goal from Ozil was kept out by Juanfran on the line. Sensational stuff!
GREAT COUNTERATTACK FROM ATLETICO! Juanfran finds Filipe with a searching pass from the right, and the left-back makes a good connection with the ball on the volley, only for his effort to crash into the side-netting.
Falcao has scored 31 goals in all competitions for Atletico this season, and his side have 31 minutes of normal time left to find a way past Madrid's defence and seal their tenth Copa del Rey title.
Ozil swings an enticing free kick into the box from the right that Courtois flaps at under no pressure from any Madrid players. That could have been a costly mistake from the Atleti goalkeeper if any of the Madrid team had been attacking the ball!
Angel Di Maria and Gonzalo Higuain are both warming up on the sidelines for Madrid. Are we about to see a change made by Mourinho?
Albiol is down inside the Madrid box after clashing heads with Falcao as the two challenged for the ball in the air. The former Valencia man looks dazed as he gets to his feet but after a comforting word from Lopez he appears okay to continue.
Yellow CardFabio Coentrao
Yellow card for Coentrao! The Madrid left-back has clashed with Costa on a couple of occasions already in this second half, and a naughty pull on the shirt of the Atleti forward has just led to him making his way into the referee's little book.
Another free kick for Atleti in a dangerous position. Koke and Falcao play a neat one-two, and Koke then whips a cross into the box that Miranda miscontrols into the path of Lopez. A touch of a centre-back there. Simeone would have loved Falcao to be on the end of that pass from Koke, I'm sure.
The ball runs out to Juanfran, who pushes forward down the right for Atletico, but that foray is brought to an abrupt end by a crunching tackle/foul from Coentrao.
Khedira ghosts into the Atletico box but is unable to make contact with Essien's cross from deep on the right.
Filipe repeats Coentrao's run, but for Atletico, but the difference is that he is found by a pass from a teammate. The left-back takes a touch as he races into the Madrid box before sending a bobbling shot at goal that is gathered eagerly by Lopez.
There's a lot of love for Madrid on my Twitter timeline at the moment. The majority of you are predicting a comfortable win in the second half for los Blancos.
Coentrao gets in to a great position on the left side of the Atletico box but Ronaldo's pass with the outside of his right boot is intercepted well by Juanfran. Very alert defending from the right-back!
We are back underway at the Bernabeu...
One person who did enjoy that first half is Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique. The Spain international just tweeted, "A lot of intensity during the first 45 minutes of the final. Great atmosphere excitement goals! #CopaDelrey".
What are your thoughts on that first half? Send them over to me on Twitter at @charliefscott. Who do you lot think will proved the difference after the break?
Don't go to Monaco Radamel. Please. The Colombian has got it all, I'm telling you. He can score goals, create goals, and he is not afraid to put himself about for his team. He was unplayable towards the end of the first half here, as he supplied a wonderful assist for Costa's equaliser and gave Ramos and Albiol a torrid time with his movement and hold-up play.
HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 1-1 ATLETICO MADRID The teams head in to the changing rooms with the score at 1-1 in this Copa del Rey final after a frantic opening 45 minutes. Ronaldo opened the scoring with a thundering header from a corner in the 14th minute, before Costa levelled for Atletico with a finely-taken finish after sublime build-up play from his strike partner, Falcao. Ozil then came within centimeters of restoring Madrid's lead minutes before the break, as his bouncing left-foot shot crashed off the post.
And there is the half-time whistle! It's all square here at the Bernabeu!
OZIL STRIKES THE POST FOR LOS BLANCOS!! The Germany international fires a snap-shot effort towards goal that beats Courtois only to cannon back off the post and away to safety. That was so nearly a second goal for Madrid!
AHHHH, RAMOS!! The Madrid centre-back finds himself inside the Atletico box after roaming forward from the back, but a needless flick causes Madrid's attack to break down. Ronaldo is furious!
Modric tries his luck from distance but he is some way from troubling Courtois, who has had very little to do apart from pick the ball out of his net after being beaten by Ronaldo in the 14th minute.
Atletico continue to attack, and again Falcao holds the ball up well for the visitors. The Colombia international shepherds the ball away from Ramos and flicks a pass out to Juanfran, before the right-back is tackled by Coentrao.
Yellow CardArda Turan
Simeone clearly enjoyed that goal on the touchline, and the Atletico fans are still going crazy in the stands. This game is brilliantly-poised as we approach half-time.
So often it is Costa that supplies Falcao, but on that occasion the Colombian turned provider, and what an assist it was. Credit to Costa for the finish too!
COSTA LEVELS IT FOR ATLETICO!!! The striker notches his eighth of the competition to send the Atletico fans into raptures! Falcao did brilliantly in the build-up to turn on the halfway line, keep the ball away from Albiol, and sweep a pass into the stride of Costa, who sent a firm low finish past Lopez and into the bottom corner. Game well and truly on at the Bernabeu!
Coentrao is sure he has won a throw-in for Madrid after dispossessing Costa over on the left, but the linesman – who is stood just yards away from the pair – awards the throw to Atletico. Cue a cacophony of boos from the Madrid fans.
STATS TO BACK UP MY RAMBLINGS: Atletico have completed just one of their nine crosses in the opening 32 minutes here.
Karim Benzema heads the free kick behind for a corner, which Koke sends straight down the throat of Lopez in the Madrid goal.
Filipe rushes past Turan and offers an overlap for Atletico on the left, and he does well to draw a foul from Ronaldo after pushing the ball between the Portugal star and Raul Albiol.
But again Koke's delivery is not quite up to scratch! Lopez comes off his line to punch the ball away under little pressure from Atletico players.
Another free kick for Atleti! This time it is about 35 yards from Lopez's goal, over to the right...
STAT: Costa is the Copa del Rey's top scorer this season with seven goals.
The visitors – you know what I mean – are starting to come into the game a bit since going behind. If Koke could cross they could well have tested Diego Lopez by now. Falcao, by the way, has barely featured so far.
That is rubbish from Koke! The Rojiblancos midfielder has wasted a number of set pieces already tonight, which is a shame as that is definitely an area from which Madrid could concede.
Coentrao wraps himself around Gabi in an attempt to win the ball but gets absolutely nowhere near it and Atleti have a free kick on the right, just outside the Madrid penalty area...
Arda Turan – who is donning a magnificent beard tonight – catches Essien with a high challenge on the near side and the referee quite rightly blows for a foul and awards Madrid a free kick.
Filipe Luis wins the ball from Essien on the left for Atletico and will be happy to win a throw-in for his side as Madrid looked poised to attack.
Koke has two bites at the apple on the left as he is allowed to re-take a corner by the referee, but on both occasions his crosses are over hit and Madrid are able to easily clear the ball upfield.
STAT: Los Blancos are the only side to remain unbeaten at home across all competitions in Europe's top five leagues this season (W23, D5).
Gabi unleashes a long-range effort that rockets over Lopez's crossbar as Atletico try and hit back immediately.
@ayanzbreeze will be hoping the score remains the same after his prediction from four minutes ago!
Godin was beaten far too easily by Ronaldo in the air at that set piece. The Uruguayan barely left the ground while his opponent soared above him and nodded the ball into the corner of the net.
GOALL!!! RONALDO MAKES IT 1-0 TO MADRID!! The Portugal international celebrates his 100th match at the Bernabeu with the opening goal in this final courtesy of a thumping header past Thibaut Courtois from an Ozil corner. Just the 55th goal of the season for Ronaldo!
@ayanzbreeze is straight in there with a Madrid 1-0 Atletico prediction, with Ronaldo to score los Blancos' goal. We shall see! I think there will be more than just a single goal over the course of this match though.
Suarez is very fortunate not to go into the referee's book after catching Ronaldo with a rash double-footed challenge inside the Atletico half. The Atletico midfielder will have to be careful with his tackling tonight against the likes of Modric, Ronaldo and Ozil.
Right guys and girls, I want to hear your score predictions, pronto. Send them over to me on Twitter at @charliefscott. Anyone who sends me what turns out to be the correct score will get a virtual high five on the final whistle.
That's more good hassling from Atletico! Khedira keeps the ball in play high on the right for Madrid but Godin is again the man that comes across to avert the danger and flick the ball out.
Ozil swings the cross in from the right but it is glanced away by the head of Miranda as Atletico maintain their organised start to the game.
Atletico's Diego Godin sprints across from his centre-back position to sweep the ball away from the overlapping Michael Essien, but the ball runs behind for a corner to Madrid.
An unorthodox challenge from Juanfran on Cristiano Ronaldo results in another free kick for Mourinho's side. The Spain international led with his left foot and his right elbow as he looked to steal the ball there, a rather odd combination that.
Modric wins the ball well from Suarez on the halfway line and then shows great agility to pirouette past a tackle from Gabi and keep possession for his side.
STAT: This final is the first since 1992 to feature both Madrid clubs, and on that occasion it was Atletico who prevailed thanks to a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Bernd Schuster and Paolo Futre.
84 seconds in and we have our first foul of the game. Sami Khedira goes down after being fouled by Koke and Madrid have a free kick on the right-hand side.
And we are underway in Madrid! Atletico attack down the right but Koke is eventually stopped by a challenge from Fabio Coentrao in the full-back position.
The teams are out at the Bernabeu, where a sea of red shirts in the stands creates a very strange scene. Normally the ground is dominated by the white of Madrid, but tonight Atletico have support in numbers. 30,000 to be precise.
The visitors line up in a narrow 4-2-3-1 formation, with Koka, Diego Costa and Arda Turan forming an attacking three behind the prolific and seemingly Monaco-bound Radamel Falcao. Elsewhere Mario Suarez returns from a back injury to start in midfield ahead of Tiago.
No sign of Pepe for Madrid then, despite Raphael Varane's absence through injury. Raul Albiol starts at centre-back alongside Sergio Ramos, while Angel Di Maria is named on the bench with Mesut Ozil, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo supporting Karim Benzema in attack. That suggests Ozil will be pushed out wide, where he is never as effective as when he plays through the middle.
SUBS: Asenjo, Diaz, Tiago, Lopez, Torres, Rodriguez, Garcia
ATLETICO (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Filipe; Suarez, Gabi; Koke, Costa, Turan; Falcao
SUBS: Casillas, Kaka, Carvalho, Arbeloa, Higuain, Callejon, Di Maria
REAL MADRID (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Essien, Albiol, Ramos, Coentrao; Xabi Alonso, Khedira; Ozil, Modric, Ronaldo; Benzema
Anyway, enough chit-chat for the time being, here are both starting XIs:
Los Rojiblancos have won the Copa del Rey nine times in the past, and how they would love to win their very own Decima at the stadium of their city rivals. They will take heart from the fact that eight of those nine Copa del Rey final wins have taken place at the Bernabaeu...
Much of the narrative in the Spanish media this season has centred around la Decima, Madrid's elusive tenth Champions League trophy. Their run in Europe ended at the hands of Borussia Dortmund last month, but fear not, the quest for la Decima is still alive, it just happens to be in Atletico's crosshairs on this occasion.
Jose Mourinho's rollercoaster relationship with los Blancos appears to be derailing as each day passes, with the Portuguese coach heavily linked with a return to Chelsea this summer following a series of high-profile bust-ups with some of his squad. Tonight though, Mourinho has a chance at silverware on his own turf, against Real's hated rivals.
My name is Charlie Scott and I'll be bringing you updates from the game as it unfolds in the Spanish capital. As always, feel free to get in touch via the comments box on the right or by hurling your views over to me on Twitter at @charliefscott.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Goal's coverage of what promises to be a fabulous night of Spanish football. It is Copa del Rey final time! Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. An all-Madrid final, in Madrid. What more could you want on a Friday evening?
