Reading stay rooted to the bottom of the league while Southampton move up to 11th with an efficient performance. Rodriguez and Lambert were important for Pochettino's side but Nigel Adkins has a seemingly impossible task on his hands, for this season at least.
FULL TIME! All over at the Madejski Stadium as Reading lose 2-0 to Southampton. The visitors were more clinical in front of goal and notch up their third successive win. Eight defeats in a row for Reading as they contemplate next season in the Championship.
A good shift by the Ulsterman and a good reception as he makes way for Guly Do Prado.
CHANCE! Morrison nearly gifts Davis a third for Southampton but recovers in the nick of time. Davis has been full of running all game for the visitors and is duly subbed for Guly Do Prado.
Southampton midfield keeping the ball well as 'oh when the Saints' rings out around the Madejski. Reading look resigned to defeat but they have a history of late goals all season.
All Reading now, with crosses and corners keeping Boruc busy. Lambert has dropped deeper but still is supplying Rodriguez with enough to worry the Reading defence. Big last ten minutes for the home side.
Reading will feel hard done by with that decision, as their season seems to rest on each result. Boruc gathers another high looping cross at the second, third and fourth attempt. A rare source of entertainment in this tense second half.
CHANCE! A Le Fondre header nearly carried over the line by Boruc, who eventually got the ball away. Replays show a case for goal-line technology, with a hint of offside in the build-up.

GOAL! Lallana scores as the sub finishes smartly, slotting past Federici. Nice ball by Rodriguez catches Mariappa and co on their heels. Long way back for Reading now, 0-2.
Lallana and Davis combine well as Southampton pin the home side in their own half with a lengthy spell of possession. This game is slipping away from Nigel Adkins' men.
Lambert and Rodriguez link again but Morrison snuffs out the danger inside the Reading box. Saints corner comes to nothing as the second half is yet to get going.

Robson-Kanu wins a corner, after good work down the right this time. Le Fondre involved in the build up but Saints clear the corner again after unconvincing defending. Southampton's high line looks to be keeping the hosts at bay.
Good work from McAnuff down the left forces a Reading corner. Set piece evades everyone, including keeper Boruc but Reading can't capitalise.
Pogrebnyak is warming up as time ticks away for the home side. They like to leave it late and will need a turnaround here. Slow start to the second half.

Leigertwood on for Akpan at the break. The former Everton man did take a knock to the head in the first half and Adkins has opted to change it around. Lambert, Rodriguez and Ramirez start where they left off, early threat for Saints.

Reading will be disappointed to be going in a goal down but failure to take chances has cost the home team. Lambert, Rodriguez and Ramirez enjoying some good openings and could've been two-nil but the Uruguayan failed to convert Rodriguez's initial chance.
Reading 0-1 Southampton. Adkins' side behind at the break. The home side started the better and should've been in front through Le Fondre. There will be some debate over the goal but Rodrguez took his chance well.
Two minutes of stoppage time in the first half. Much to do for Reading as they look for an equaliser. It's gone flat for the home side since going behind.
Gaston Ramirez drags a shot wide after Federici parries a Rodriguez attempt. A good chance for Ramirez and could have been two-nil. Southampton's forwards are enjoying linking up and are causing the home side problems
It's those two again threatening for the visitors. Ramirez almost picks out Rodriguez with a lofted ball in the final third but Federici is alert to the danger and manages to pounce on the loose ball.
OFF THE BAR! Jay Rodriguez smacks the woodwork for the Saints! Gaston Ramirez played the ball into the Englishman before he let fire with a rising drive which had Federici well beaten. A let off for the Royals.

Lambert and Rodriguez linking well, the latter correctly ruled just offside. The game has gone quiet after a strong start. Lambert wins a header in the box and Ramirez nods just wide. Hard to believe this one is still 0-0
The visitors force a corner after good work down the left. Well defended by Reading and Akpan goes down with a head injury after a raised boot catches him. Brief stoppage in play but a good start by Reading.
Reading are full of fight in this game. Boruc saves from a Mariappa header and the Royals will need to convert these good chances. Replays show the referee made the right call to deny Reading a penalty.

Southampton coming into the game now with Davis and Schneiderlin at the heart of their attacking play. Reading free kick isn't dealt with by Southampton and Adam Le Fondre blazes over from eight yards. Huge chance missed for the home side

Adam Le Fondre will be vital for Nigel Adkins for the remainder of the season and his running of the channels so far is stretching the visiting team. Reading have their first corner.
The home side are pressing high up the pitch and most of the action in the Saints' half so far. Adkins will be happy with the start his side have made, but Southampton are yet to have any meaningful possession.
