There can be miracles if you believe, but it wasn’t to be this time. Thanks for joining me this afternoon, hopefully the rest of today’s football action will be a little less depressing. I’ve been Chris Teale, see you soon.
90' + 3'
Yellow CardFabio Da Silva
That was a high challenge from Fabio, which earns him a late booking.
90' + 3'
FULL-TIME, and both Reading and QPR must now face life in the Championship as their relegations are confirmed with this 0-0 draw. It was a poor game in truth, although the away side had the better chances and more possession. However, they were incredibly wasteful, with Adel Taarabt and Jermaine Jenas the main culprits. Reading offered little going forward, with captain Jobi McAnuff once again an inspiration as he continued to work hard and drive his team forward. Now, both teams go back into the second tier of English football, with both managers now faced with the task of building for a season in what is an incredibly hard league to be promoted from.
90' + 1'
Reading come forward again after some great work by Le Fondre, but Pogrebnyak can't get his header on target under pressure from Jenas.
Hearts in mouths there as McCarthy doesn't quite gather Bothroyd's shot cleanly the first time. However, with Remy lurking, he manages to get hold of the ball at the second attempt.
Great try from the substitute Jamie Mackie to get onto Junior Hoilett's cross, but he ends up smashing into the advertising hoardings.
Good late pressure from Reading, who are winning a series of corners and seeing Sean Morrison make an almighty nuisance of himself in the penalty area.
Chance! Morrison comes in late for a corner and sends in a superb header that Green can only tip over the bar. Hope for Reading?
That's not so good either from Fabio, who gives the ball away and then commits a silly foul. The clock is ticking down now, with relegation for both seemingly inevitable.
That was so poor from Robson-Kanu, as he tries to control the ball on the left but sees it go straight past him.
Chance! Great ball there from Guthrie, and Le Fondre sends his header just over the bar at the back post.
Decent spell here for QPR as they win a couple of corners. However, both are cleared well by the Reading defenders.
Another good chance, as Bothroyd's square ball finds Jenas arriving late. Once again, the midfielder sends his shot wide.
That would have been a superb volley from Jenas, had it not ended up in the stand behind the goal. Nice technique, but the execution was a little lacking.
Fabio Da Silva
Adam Le Fondre thinks he's away down the left, but he's called back for being offside. It was marginal, but the assistant referee got it right.
Yellow CardEsteban Granero
The first booking of the afternoon goes to Granero, who is slightly clumsy in a tackle as he tracks back.
Pogrebnyak is trying hard and is nearly away again, but Clint Hill is there to clear for a throw.
Sean Morrison is nearly caught out by Bothroyd, but manages to get enough power on his header back to McCarthy.
Reading come flying forward on the counter, and Pogrebnyak sees his header bounce over the bar.
Adam Le Fondre
Another great ball there from Gunter is sliced behind by Onuoha for a corner. The Welshman has attacked very well down the right.
Good shot from Guthrie that dips slightly in front of Green, but the QPR man holds on well.
CHANCE! Pogrebnyak does brilliantly to take a through-ball and transfer it onto his right foot, although his shot goes just wide.
Nice work from Pogrebnyak, who takes the ball down and turns well. However, his pass is too heavy and can be collected by Green.
How many chances does he need? Once again, the ball breaks to Taarabt in the penalty area but he sends another shot wide of the mark. He's been very enterprising this afternoon, but his finishing has let him down.
That's a booming free-kick from Guthrie from very deep, but Green is there to catch the ball comfortably.
Oh dear. Remy does brilliantly to draw Mariappa towards him and sets away Taarabt. However, his shot is absolutely appalling and therefore an easy one for McCarthy.
Decent cross there from Bosingwa, but neither Bothroyd or Jenas can get good contact on a header.
Oh heavens. Mbia inexplicably hammers a shot in from outside the penalty area with Remy on the back post, sending the ball high into the stand behind the goal.
A good run from Bothroyd, but his cross towards Remy is hacked clear by Morrison. QPR looking good already.
Good corner from QPR, but Mbia heads the ball over the bar.
We're back for the second half, which is kicked off by QPR.
45' + 2'
HALF-TIME, and it’s 0-0 in a lively game of few chances, lacking in any real quality. QPR have had the best of the game and the better opportunities, with Adel Taarabt showing flashes of brilliance and Loic Remy being a constant threat. The best chance fell to Jay Bothroyd, who put his lob just wide with Alex McCarthy beaten. Reading have been solid if unspectacular so far, with Jobi McAnuff impressing with his work-rate and Pavel Pogrebnyak having the best of their chances. A draw here means both teams will go down, so they will be keen to find the net and secure a win that may give them the slightest hope. It’s very slight, mind.
45' + 1'
Great shot there from McAnuff, who forces Green to beat the ball away from danger.
One minute will be added on at the end of the half.
Another Reading penalty appeal, as Stephen Kelly goes down under what could be seen as a heavy tackle by Bosingwa. Once again, the referee says no.
Reading shout for a penalty as Blackman goes down in the box, but the referee says no.
Chance! Reading take a quick free-kick and Pogrebnyak sees his shot just about parried by Green. A scramble ensues, and Mbia manages to clear away.
That looks like a knock there for Mbia right on the touchline. He looked like he was in absolute agony, so imagine everyone's surprise when he gets to his feet just seconds later, having prevented Reading taking the free-kick quickly. It's a miracle.
Good ball there from Chris Gunter into the penalty area, but it's cleared before Pogrebynak can get a shot away.
Great work from Bothroyd, whose back-heel finds Armand Traore on the gallop. He sees his shot blocked at the last second, forcing the first corner of the game.
Good little spell of pressure there for Reading, but Jenas is there to take the ball away from Nick Blackman on the right.
Chance! Remy heads down the free kick into the path of Taarabt, but he sends his shot past the post. The away side have definitely created the better chances and had the best of this game so far.
Superb work from Jobi McAnuff, who pressures Bosingwa's poor pass back to Green and nearly creates havoc in the QPR penalty area. He's giving it everything out there.
Another superb free-kick there from Guthrie finds Morrison at the back post, but the defender puts his header over the bar under pressure from Clint Hill.
Great ball there from Onuoha to find Remy on the run, but Adrian Mariappa is there to clear the danger.
Garath McCleary hasn't quite got going yet on the left, as he comes forward but then loses control of the ball. It's gone a little bit flat, truth be told.
After a slight delay as the referee moved the wall back, the free-kick doesn't clear them and is cleared comfortably. What a waste.
Penalty? No, not quite. McAnuff is brought down by Granero right on the edge of the box, forcing a free-kick for Reading.
Chance! The ball is lofted forward to Jay Bothroyd and McCarthy is out quickly to cover. However, the Rs striker lobs him with one touch but sees his shot trickle wide of the goal.
That could have been a good cross from Stephane Mbia, but it didn't find any QPR players in the penalty area.
Remy is chasing what could have been a loose pass from Sean Morrison, but McCarthy is out to gather the ball quickly.
Poor clearance from Hill straight to Guthrie, but the Reading midfielder plays a poor pass that Robert Green can collect.
Again, that's some really good work from Taarabt and he rifles in a shot that goes very wide indeed.
That was close. Granero lifts the free-kick over the wall and rattles the crossbar. A great effort from the Spaniard.
QPR break forward with some pace, and Taarabt is brought down somewhat cynically by Jem Karacan in a dangerous area just outside the box.
Decent work there from Adel Taarabt, and the ball breaks to Jermaine Jenas who lashes a shot well over the bar.
Esteban Granero lofts a ball forward looking for Loic Remy, but it's too long and goes through to Alex McCarthy.
McAnuff goes on a gallop, but he's deemed to have tripped Clint Hill as he came marauding forward. Shame for the Reading captain, who showed a good turn of pace.
That is a brilliant free-kick from Danny Guthrie, who fizzes one in low and into a dangerous area. However, no Royals player can make contact and the ball goes out.
Error there from Jose Bosingwa, who gifts the ball back to Jobi McAnuff. With Pogrebnyak nearby he should really pass, but hammers a shot well over the bar.
Good work from QPR in Reading's half, but the ball is stripped from them as the home side go on the counter. However, Pavel Pogrebnyak is brought to a halt by Nedem Onuoha.
We’re off! Reading get the first half going.
Here come the teams.
In summary, then, both teams will go down if Aston Villa beat Sunderland on Monday, regardless of the result here. The loser of this game will definitely be relegated. If this is a draw, then both teams see their agony prolonged, and Villa will need to only avoid defeat to condemn them both. However, if a team manages to pull out a win, they will be grasping at the smallest glimmer of hope. A very small one indeed.
Reading are unchanged from the team that lost away to Norwich last time out. QPR make five changes to their side, bringing Nedum Onouha and Armand Traore into defence, Esteban Granero and Jermaine Jenas into the midfield, with Jay Bothroyd getting the start up front.
Now, QPR: Green; Bosingwa, Onuoha, Hill, Traore; Granero, Jenas, Mbia; Taarabt, Remy, Bothroyd. Subs: Cesar, Derry, Park, Mackie, Fabio, Ben Haim, Hoilett.
Let’s get some team news. First, here’s Reading: McCarthy; Gunter, Kelly, Mariappa, Morrison; Karacan, Guthrie; McCleary, McAnuff, Blackman; Pogrebnyak. Subs: Taylor, Harte, Pearce, Carrico, Robson-Kanu, Hunt, Le Fondre.
Speaking of trouble, that leads us onto QPR. They have spent an unholy amount of money this year but have still won just four times this season. It’s all a bit depressing when you consider that Harry Redknapp has a lower percentage as Rangers manager in the top flight than both Mark Hughes and Neil Warnock. Their inability to score is noticeable, as Rangers haven’t found the net now for over three hours in the league, and they are staring Championship football squarely in the face despite enormous investment in their squad.
Reading are in serious trouble, sitting 10 points of safety and bottom of the table. It would appear that Championship football is beckoning for the Royals, who have won just five times all season in the top flight. They have been without a win in nine games, have taken just one point from a possible 27 and sadly have looked out of their depth this season. However, manager Nigel Adkins will still believe, as will his players, so will want to put on a good show for the home fans at the Madejski Stadium.
Good afternoon, and welcome to Goal.com’s LIVE! text commentary on this Premier League clash between Reading and QPR. I’m Chris Teale, do you believe in miracles?
