QPR - West Brom Preview: Neil Warnock's side seek their second home win of the season

Queens Park Rangers have won only one game in their own backyard, as both sides look to eradicate the mistakes that have halted their progress in the Premier League

Neil Warnock could make changes to his side following their 2-1 defeat at Norwich City last weekend. Troubled forward Adel Taarabt was not even in the matchday squad at Carrow Road and the Moroccan looks set to miss out this weekend if rumours suggesting the club are forcing him out are to be believed.

Shaun Wright-Phillips sustained a foot injury against Norwich but Warnock has not completely ruled the winger out of the match at Loftus Road, revealing that the problem was not as bad as first feared.

Joey Barton is set to return after serving suspension, while first-choice goalkeeper Paddy Kenny (muscle), DJ Campbell (foot), Kieron Dyer (foot) and Matthew Connolly (ankle) are all sidelined.

West Brom's latest setback came as a knee injury to Zoltan Gera ruled the Hungarian out for the "foreseeable future".

Questions over Peter Odemwingie's fitness were heightened this week after the Nigerian posted a picture showing the extent of his knee injury on Twitter, therefore Shane Long may be preferred in attack.

  • QPR have the worst defensive record in the Premier League outside of the teams in the relegation zone.
  • Warnock's side have also scored the fewest goals at home in the league this term.
  • Heidar Helguson has scored five goals in six Premier League starts this season.
  • West Brom have kept one clean sheet in their last 25 league games.
  • Roy Hodgson's attackers will need to be on their toes as they've racked up 51 offsides in the league this season - more than any other team.
  • Half of West Brom's goals in the league this term have been scored within the opening 15 minutes of play.

The midfielder returns from suspension and is likely to slot alongside Shaun Derry and Alejandro Faurlin.

Barton has been influential at the heart of Warnock's side this term and the visit of West Brom, who possess a fragile defence, could see the former Newcastle man getting on the scoresheet.

S. Long

Position: Attacker

The Republic of Ireland international has managed to fit in seamlessly at West Brom following his arrival from Reading this summer.

Four goals is a promising return so far, and his displays involving intelligent movement off the ball only add to his credentials. The striker could be destined to add to his tally as he comes up against an unconvincing QPR rearguard.

Editor's Prediction

Both sides have struggled to gain a solid run of form heading into this fixture, and leaky defences at both ends of Loftus Road could be held responsible for a number of goals shipped this Saturday.

Warnock's men have shown they are capable of picking up positive results against strong opposition, but in the same instance, a reputation for conceding cheap goals has stunted their progress this season.

West Brom have stabilised after a poor start to the campaign but Hodgson's side failed to inspire against the league's heavyweights in recent weeks, so contests such as these should be fiercely fought.

Expect goals but neither side appears to possess the cutting edge to take three points from this fixture.
