An impressive performance from the France international, who was an impenetrable wall. Denied Gotze twice in both halves, saving his team from certain goals.
The left-back had a great game both in attack and in defence as he stormed forward time and again, whipping dangerous crosses into the box. A rock at the back.
The ex-Bordeaux man had a decent game, and aside from a few scares, completely managed to neutralise Dortmund's static attack. Showed good positioning and was composed in the tackle.
The Spaniard was hardly troubled by the extremely passive Grosskreutz, yet he failed to make any impact in the final third. Was given the run-around by Gotze, and looked shaky all night.
The Argentine somehow managed to disappoint in a game in which almost all of his team-mates shined. Missed a glorious chance in the eighth minute, and then again after the break in the 48th minute. His passing was not particularly impressive either.
The winger had a field day against Schmelzer as he ran wild on the flank. Showed immense technique, quick thinking and inspired vision.
The less efficient member of the double pivot, he still did a lot of work in the centre of the pitch, and was not afraid to get his hands dirty and commit the occasional foul. Made some incisive passes.
The midfield enforcer was a calming presence in the centre of the pitch, keeping things simple, and at the same time bulldozing the woefully inept Kehl.
The winger was silky in possession and impressive with his finishing as he ended with two goals for his team. Missed one good chance in the 36th minute, but more than made up for it as he converted his team's penalty in the 69th minute.
The striker was on top form tonight as he scored one, and created the other two for his team. An absolute top performance from a very promising player.
Left helpless as the inept Dortmund defence was picked apart by the incisive Remy and Ayew. Could have probably done better for the second strike, but generally did well.
A laughable performance by the Serbian, who looked horribly out of depth. Was slow, lacking concentration and his comical lunge in the build-up to the penalty told the story of a pitiful match.
Curious fact is that two of Marseille's three goals came from his flank, and this was no coincidence. Naive positioning and inexplicable lack of concentration meant Ayew and Remy bypassed him in any possible way, while his contribution in attack hardly made a difference.
Delivered a performance not worthy of a second division player as he was completely destroyed down the flank by Valbuena, while his final ball was consistently poor.
Non-existent and embarassing performance, as the game completely bypassed Gorsskreutz.
Aside from the silly mistake that led to Marseille's second, the Germany international was the only thing that kept Dortmund's defence from falling apart. Was let down by his team-mates.
The Germany international was once again impressive on the ball, and for large periods looked like the only BVB player willing to make things work. His woeful finishing in this match, as he lacked composure for two clear-cut chances.
Was bypassed in the centre of the pitch and was a liability, conceding the penalty.
The youngster played with his heart on his sleeve as he ran and ran, fighting a battle all on his own in the centre of the pitch. Having just returned from injury, he put his body on the line, but his commitment was not matched by his team-mates.
The Japanese playmaker failed to make an impact as he looked completely out of ideas when faced with Diarra & company. Nothing he tried worked, and was replaced by Kuba after the break.
The striker's name is gradually becoming a punch line, and tonight's awful performance did nothing to stop that. Did not offer any threat upfront.
- 1 G. Bracigliano
Given a short cameo at the end of the game as he came on for goalscorer Andre Ayew.
A late substitution.
Managed to get himself sent off in just 18 minutes as he picked up two yellow cards, the second one coming for a blatant dive.
- 25 B. Omrani
- 29 C. Gadi
- 20 M. Langerak
- 27 Felipe Santana
Looked clumsy in his short cameo and failed to influence the game in any way.
- 21 I. Gündogan
- 8 Antônio da Silva
A bright performance by the Paraguay international, who hit the bar with a good header after coming on for Robert Lewandowski.
Could not save the day for his team this time around, and he was given little support in his efforts to make things work upfront.
