Norwich - Tottenham Preview: Both teams looking to bounce back from early FA Cup exits at Carrow Road

After suffering shock defeats at the hands of Luton and Leeds at the weekend, both sides will be looking to put those giant-killings behind them on their return to league action

Chris Hughton is expected to make a host of changes after resting several key players in his side's shock FA Cup exit to Luton, with Grant Holt, Alexander Tettey, Michael Turner, Mark Bunn and Robert Snodgrass all set to return.

Wes Hoolahan and Anthony Pilkington may also be set for a recall after coming on as a substitute for the last two matches.

Sebastien Bassong could be in the frame to face his former club after missing the last two games with a calf injury, but Steve Morison (hip) and John Ruddy (thigh) are still not fit to play.

Jermain Defoe may remain on the sidelines after missing Tottenham's FA Cup defeat against Leeds with a pelvic injury, meaning Clint Dempsey could continue up front in the absence of any other strikers.

The rested Hugo Lloris and Mousa Dembele should replace Brad Friedel and Tom Huddlestone in the only other changes from the match at Elland Road.

William Gallas (calf) and Younes Kaboul (knee) are still injured, while Sandro is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery.

  • Chris Hughton spent most of his playing career at Tottenham after coming through the youth ranks, and enjoyed 14 years as a coach at White Hart Lane following his retirement, twice serving as caretaker manager.
  • Norwich have not lost to Spurs in their last three encounters, and knocked them out of the Capital One Cup in their previous meeting back in October.
  • Andre Villas-Boas is yet to record a win at Carrow Road in his time in England, after being held to a goalless draw whilst in charge of Chelsea last season.
  • However, the Canaries have now lost five of their last six Premier League fixtures, with their 0-0 draw against Newcastle in the last home match their only point from a possible 18.
  • Spurs, on the other hand, have lost just once in their previous 11 league games, and are unbeaten in seven.
  • Stand-in striker Clint Dempsey (pictured, right) is in his best form in a Spurs shirt, having hit five goals in his last five games.
  • Norwich have picked up 1-0 wins over Manchester United and Arsenal in their own back yard this season, but will struggle to contain a Spurs team that has hit the back of the net in all but one of their 11 Premier League away games.

Norwich have lost the defensive solidity that served them so well on their long unbeaten run earlier on in the season, and will struggle against a team that are true to their attacking instincts even away from home.
