Norwich City - Swansea City Preview: Canaries desperate to break recent poor form

Chris Hughton's side are still struggling to cement their Premier League status and will hope to take a giant stride towards staying up against the Capital One Cup winners

Rangel, Chico, Williams, Davies
De Guzman, Britton
Dyer, Hernandez, Routledge

Chris Hughton's side have won only once in 14 league matches in 2013 and scored just five goals in that time but will have goalkeeper Mark Bunn available again after he completed a one-match ban for the red card he received at Sunderland.

Grant Holt was left on the bench for the defeat at Wigan last time out but is expected to replace Kei Kamara in the lone striker role while Alexander Tettey is back in contention to start after appearing as a late substitute.

Anthony Pilkington (hamstring) is highly unlikely to feature, while John Ruddy is still returning to full match fitness following his thigh problem.

Swansea City suffered their third successive defeat when they lost to Tottenham on Saturday and will be hoping to end their dip in form at Carrow Road.

Michael Laudrup has been boosted by the news that defensive duo Angel Rangel and Chico Flores would be fit for the game. Rangel missed the defeat to Spurs with a calf strain, while Flores was replaced midway through the second half following his return from an ankle ligament injury.

Neil Taylor (ankle) made a return to reserve action this week, but is unlikely to play a part in first-team action until he builds his fitness more.

  • Norwich City have won all three of their Premier League clashes with Swansea.
  • Grant Holt has scored three goals in his last two league appearances against the Swans.
  • There have been fewer goals scored at Carrow Road (31) than any other Premier League ground this season.
  • Swansea City are yet to win in the league this season when they have fallen behind (D6 L11).
  • However, the Welsh outfit have only dropped five points from leading positions, winning 10 of the 12 games they have lead in.
  • Michu (pictured, right) has not scored an away goal in the Premier League in 2013. His last six goals in the competition have been netted at the Liberty Stadium; a run that started with his brace versus Norwich in December.

Players to watch

G. Holt

Having started the last two games on the bench, Holt will be eager to make his mark should he be given the opportunity from the start. With five Premier League goals to his name this term, he is Norwich's top scorer and gives them an extra dimension in the final third.

L. Britton

Position: Midfielder

The midfield area is likely to be heavily congested as both sides will look to stamp their authority on the game. Therefore, the 30-year-old's ability to keep possession and create space will be key in a match which is expected to be tight.

Editor's Prediction

With one goal in their last four matches, Chris Hughton's Canaries are slipping dangerously towards the drop-zone and are in desperate need of a result to ease their relegation fears. They may be on a poor run of form but they are unbeaten in their last five home games and have an excellent record over Saturday's opponents. Michael Laudrup has called on his side to finish the season strongly after losing their last three but having already reached the 40-point mark, the Swans are playing for merely pride.
