Norwich City - Swansea City Preview: Brendan Rodgers' men looking for their first Premier League victory away from home

Paul Lambert's men welcome fellow Premier League new boys to Carrow Road, but the Swans have a good record against the hosts, winning three of their last four meetings

Ahead of the visit of fellow Premier League new-boys Swansea, Paul Lambert has a few injuries to contend with. A slight consolation is that none of them are new.

Daniel Ayala, Elliott Ward and James Vaughan will all miss out with knee injuries, whilst Zak Whitbread remains sidelined with a hamstring problem. Ritchie De Laet could feature once again after he was ineligible for the match at Old Trafford.

Brendan Rodgers has a few problems of his own, but will be glad Ashley Williams, Joe Allen, Neil Taylor and Michel Vorm all came through their respective international matches unharmed.

The Welsh side will be without the services of Alan Tate (broken leg), Germain Agustien (hamstring), Ferrie Bodde (knee ligament) and Craig Beattie (ankle), but will be able to recall Leon Britton after he sat out the victory over Stoke City with a back problem.

  • Swansea last won at Carrow Road back in 2008, recording a 3-2 win.
  • The last time the two teams met in England’s top-flight was back in 1983 with Norwich picking up a 1-0 home win.
  • The Swans have lost away from home in the league nine times since the turn of the year.
  • So far this term, Norwich are averaging 1.43 goals a match at home, while Swansea have averaged 0.33 goals a match on their travels.

The clever Irishman will be key to Norwich’s chances throughout the season as he remains the creator in chief, but it is in matches such as this that it will be hoped that his magic will prevail.

If the hosts are to avoid relegation this season, it is against teams like Swansea that they must pick up their victories and Hoolahan’s ability to find his strikers will be essential in order to get the three points on the day.

M. Vorm

Position: Goalkeeper

As has been the case in most of the Swans' Premier League matches so far, goalkeeper Vorm could be in for a busy afternoon.

Norwich, playing at home, will not sit back since three points against a fellow relegation-candidate could be key.

Early on in this campaign, Vorm produced some spectacular pieces of goalkeeping, particularly against Wigan, and he will need to showcase top form once again to spring-board his side’s chances.

Editor's Prediction

This match could go either way with both sides relatively high on confidence. But should Norwich maintain their form from the defeat to Manchester United while improving their finishing, they will stand a great chance of this fixture.

The hosts are yet to score three goals in a league match this term, but this will be as good an opportunity as any and grab their third win of the season as Swansea have not been the best of travellers in 2011.
