Ryan Benson at Carrow Road: "After they both shipped five goals last week, Norwich and QPR have their first points of the season after playing out a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road. On the whole, Norwich were comfortably the better team and should have won after wasting several chances, and although Clint Hill had a horrorshow at the heart of the QPR defence in the first-half, they managed to keep the scoring down. In terms of the result Mark Hughes will be the happier manager, but his side put in a pretty poor performance compared to Norwich."
Mark Hughes' side improved defensively after a difficult first half, with Clint Hill lucky to stay on the pitch until his replacement at half time by Nedum Onuoha. They lacked creativity going forward in the absence of Adel Taarabt and were fortunate to get the chance to equalise through a penalty won by Djibril Cisse, but the Hoops were glad to get through the match with a point having been content to try and hit the Canaries on the break as the match went on.
It's full time at Carrow Road and each side comes away with a point. Chris Hughton will be pleased as his side looked to build on a first half in which wingers Anthony Pilkington and Robert Snodgrass looked threatening, Grant Holt almost forced Clint Hill's sending off, and Simeon Jackson got the opening goal. Snodgrass in particular maintained his effort throughout the ninety minutes and headed over the bar from close range, as Norwich continued to pressure their opponents with crosses throughout the second half. Defensive signings Sebastian Bassong and Javier Garrido each looked to be wise moves, with Bassong making several good headed clearances and Garrido's crossing creating several openings.
90' + 3'
Fabio takes the ball away from Morison with a strong tackle. QPR take a throw in and look for Cisse running in behind the defence but the French striker is offside.
90' + 2'
The tireless Snodgrass takes the ball into the box and all the way to the touchline, but Onuoha is on hand to intercept his cut back.
Park attempts to build an attack as he advances through the midfield but is not on the same wavelength as teammate Bosingwa as his pass to the right back is overhit.
Ruddy is swiftly off his line to clear the ball, acting as a sweeper to prevent Cisse from collecting a hopeful ball over the top of defence.
Norwich change their strike partnership with Steve Morison and Chris Martin taking the places of Holt and Jackson.
Holding midfielder Shaun Derry appears in place of Samba Diakite.
Norwich are showing great desire to get a winner with less than ten minutes to play, getting numbers forward as they bombard QPR with crosses from the flanks. Bosingwa gives a corner away but Pilkington's cross is cleared and Snodgrass gave the Hoops a break by conceding a freekick.
Russell Martin heads agaisnt the bar from Pilkington's cross after the corner was taken short, before Jamie Mackie broke down the other end of the pitch as the game looked stretched.
Yellow CardAnton Ferdinand
Anton Ferdinand concedes a freekick against the powerful Grant Holt, and Snodgrass' ball into the box is headed back for a corner.
Pilkington wastefully hits the ball well over the bar after receiving the ball in space in front of the box.
Zamora speculatively attempts a pot shot after receiving the ball outside the box.
Snodgrass wins a freekick of Fabio after attempting to get down the outside of the Brazilian. The Scotsman swings the ball in with his left foot but the ball flies over the head of Grant Holt.
Park attempts to put Cisse through clear on goal, but the forward was already trying to get back onside after a previous move, and is called offside.
Ryan Benson at Carrow Road: "Two great moments from Robert Snodgrass in quick succession at Carrow Road. Firstly the winger got in behind Armand Traore before trying to play an outside-of-the-left-foot pass into the danger area, but it was just too heavy, then he headed Javier Garrido's excellent cross over."
Jackson picks up the ball outside the right edge of the box and hits another shot over the bar.
Cisse attempts to run on to a ball beyond the defence but there is too much pace on the effort and keeper Ruddy is able to collect.
Bosingwa comes on to make his debut for the club, replacing Fabio at right back as the Brazilian takes over from Traore on the left of defence.
Bradley Johnson neatly evades Diakite in midfield and works the ball out to Garrido on the left. The Spaniard swings in an excellent cross towards the far post from deep in the left flank, and Snodgrass header flies over the bar in his side's best chance of the half.
Traore is dispossessed by Snodgrass who advances down the right wing, but his cross narrowly evades the onrunning striker.
Bassong rises high towards the back post to meet the free kick, but heads wide of the left post.
Park slides in to take the ball away from Martin inside the QPR box, before left back Armand Traore concedes a free kick towards the corner flag.
Park finds Cisse with a well-weighted through ball from deep but his shot is blocked by the well-placed Barnett.
Bradley Johnson fouls Samba Diakite as the Malian attempts to go past him in midfield. The Canaries clear Park's but the ball comes straight back before Cisse fouls Bassong as the Cameroonian heads clear.
Hoilett takes the freekick and it is extremely disappointing as it flies limply into the wall.
Bassong gives a freekick away on the edge of the box.
QPR enjoy a neat build up through midfield, with Zamora dropping back to link the play rather than expecting a high ball, and Fabio receives the ball in space by the right touchline before launching a ball towards the back post.
Right back Russell Martin swings in a dangerous cross from deep on the right flank towards Holt at the back post, but Fabio impressively heads clear.
Robert Green and Nedum Onuoha get confused when attempting to clear a long ball on the edge of the box, and the goalkeeper is lucky to escape sanction after what appeared a hand ball.
Hoilett runs at Russell Martin on the left flank before attempting a one-two with Bobby Zamora and shooting a scuffed shot wide.
Simeon Jackson receives the ball on the edge of the box and ends his side's spell of possession by shooting wide with his left foot. His side had struggled to break through the Hoops' defence, who were settign their two banks of four defenders and midfielders deep in anticipation of crosses from the flanks.
Pilkington's inswinging corner is headed away.
Cisse makes a well timed run from the left edge of the box but is unable to connect with Zamora's chipped through ball. The move had started when a Fabio long ball was easily headed away but the ball fell to Park who was first to the loose ball before finding Zamora.
To the relief of watching QPR fans, the pacy Nedum Onuoha appears in centre back in place of Clint Hill.
As the second half gets underway, Simeon Jackson is quick to react as the ball breaks to him in the QPR box, but fires wide of the near post after a neat turn.
Chris Hughton will be pleased with how his side have played in the first half. Their fluid 4-4-2 formation allowed wingers Anthony Pilkington and Robert Snodgrass many opportunities to impress, while the new back four dealt comfortably with the pace and strength of Cisse and Zamora. Mark Hughes' side were fortunate to win a penalty to equalise, and although they have attacking options from the bench in the form of Adel Taarabt and Shaun Wright-Phillips, his team have looked susceptible to the counter-attacks.
It's Half Time at Carrow Road! Norwich have looked the more dangerous of the two sides so far, with Robert Snodgrass' probing runs impressing in combination with the midfield play of his former Leeds teammates Bradley Johnson and Jonny Howson. QPR have given the ball away on occasion in midfield and have struggled to work the ball Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse, who was fortunate to win his first half penalty. Clint Hill had a nightmare towards the end of the first half, receiving a yellow card for a blatant foul on Grant Holt and conceding several other free kicks. Mark Hughes would be well advised to consider taking him off for the second half, as his opponents have already worked out he is close to a sending off.
Norwich centre back Leon Barnett powerfully heads away another long ball from QPR's defence, and it is notable how well the Canaries' defence have coped with Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse in the air so far this half.
Clint Hill blocks off Grant Holt's run and is knocked flying. There's some gamesmanship going on here and Holt complains to the referee about something, knowing Hill has previously been yellow carded.
Snodgrass combines with his former Leeds teammate Jonny Howson to move in off the right flank and shoot powerfully at goal from 25 yards.
Johnson dispossesses Diakite in the centre circle and charges through midfield before his shot into the defence is blocked.
Garrido gives a needless free kick away on the left flank, and after the kick is taken Park runs menacingly into the box before his low cross is cleared. Fabio gets another chance to swing the ball into the box but the Canaries successfully clear.
Clint Hill gives another freekick away on the left edge of the box for bringing down Grant Holt. He is not having a good game at all and after the freekick comes in and he successfully defends against Holt as he moves in for a header at the back post, he sarcastically applauds the referee. The referee calls him over for a talking to, and it appears he is very close to a second yellow card as we approach half time.
Garrido, who has had helped Norwich going forward so far this afternoon, confidently covers his back line in clearing the danger after Bradley Johnson's header went back into the defence.
Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson brings Junior Hoilett to the ground in a 50-50, but no foul is awarded.
Hill concedes another free kick for a foul on Holt, but Pilkington's curves his free kick wide.
Snodgrass raises a cheer from the crowd after a powerful sliding challenge takes the ball away from QPR left back Armand Traore.
Pilkington switches wings to the right side and powerfully shoots into the arms of keeper Green from just outside the box,
Snodgrass gets through two defenders on the right edge of the box, and fires a low cross across the box from close range which is blocked and cleared.
Snodgrass' freekick is headed powerfully wide at the far post.
Yellow CardClint Hill
Simeon Jackson dispossesses Samba Diakite inside the centre circle and finds Grant Holt on the right flank who looks to cut inside Clint Hill. Hill is too close to him and is deservedly yellow carded when he holds back the Canaries forward.
Ryan Benson at Carrow Road: "QPR have equalised at Carrow Road, but in controversial circumstances. Junior Hoilett played the ball into Djibril Cisse in the area and the forward was sent tumbling by Sebastian Bassong, but it looked a little harsh with there being minimal contact. Cisse stepped up to take the penalty which was saved by John Ruddy, but Bobby Zamora knocked in the rebound. However, the England international appeared to be in the penalty area when the spot-kick was struck."
Missed PenaltyDjibril Cissé
Penalty saveJohn Ruddy
Goal Bobby Zamora! John Ruddy makes an excellent save down low to his right to tip Cisse's penalty onto the post, but Zamora is quick to follow up and lash the ball into the net. Ruddy is furious with his defence for not following up his save with a clearance.
Penalty awarded for a foul on Djibril Cisse! Hoilett ran at Snodgrass before cutting inside and rolling the ball into the striker, who attempted to control the ball and was brought down amid pressure from Sebastien Bassong. The striker did not look to have the ball under control and did not immediately appeal for a foul, but the penalty was awarded!
The ball works its way back to Pilkington following the short corner, but his low cross is fired over the bar by his team mate.
Norwich pass the ball confidently along the back four before Garrido, who has been composed on the ball so far, passes along the line to Anthony Pilkington, whose cross wins a corner.
Goal Norwich! Simeon Jackson! The Canaries pour forward and breach the QPR defence for the Canadian international to score his first goal of the season. Ryan Benson at Carrow Road: "Norwich take the lead with just over ten minutes played, and what a lovely goal it was too. Jonny Howson played the ball into Simeon Jackson on the edge of the area, who flicked the ball to Holt, with the big forward knocking it back to Bradley Johnson. The former Leeds man then played Robert Snodgrass in down the left, and Jackson headed his cross in at the far post. Great move."
Park Ji-Sung slides in to tackle Simeon Jackson as he dashes towards the box from midfield.
QPR centre back Clint Hill defends a cross from Norwich left back Javier Garrido.
Ryan Benson from Carrow Road: Norwich’s first home match of the season sees them host QPR at Carrow Road, with both teams coming into this match on the back of 5-0 hammerings, therefore both will be determined to get at least a point on the board today. Norwich have made four changes from the team that lost at Fulham, with Javier Garrido, Sebastian Bassong, Leon Barnett and Simeon Jackson coming in, as three of those changes have been made in the defence. QPR have made just the two changes to the side that were humbled 5-0 at home to Swansea last weekend, with Armand Traore replacing Nedum Onuoha and Bobby Zamora coming in for Adel Taarabt.
Grant Holt knocks Anton Ferdinand to the floor after the two clash in the air vying for a looping cross from deep on the right flank. He gets up and appears to be ok.
QPR manager Mark Hughes also makes substantial changes, naming target man Bobby Zamora in a front two alongside Djibril Cisse in place of playmaker Adel Taarabt. Nedum Onuoha drops to the bench and is replaced by Fabio at right back, with Armand Traore replacing the Brazilian at left back.
Chris Hughton reacts by putting new signings centre back Sebastian Bassong and left back Javier Garrido in place of Michael Turner, signed just this summer from Sunderland, and Marc Tierney. He also deploys quick striker Simeon Jackson alongside Grant Holt in a front two, with midfielder Andrew Surman dropping to the bench.
Both Norwich and QPR were humbled on the opening day of the season with 5-0 defeats away at Fulham and at home to Swansea respectively.
QPR: Green, Da Silva, Ferdinand, Hill, Traore; Mackie, Diakite, Park, Hoilett; Cisse, Zamora. Subs: Murphy, Derry, Johnson, Taarabt, Wright-Phillips, Onuoha, Bosingwa.
Norwich: Ruddy; Russell Martin, Bassong, Barnett, Garrido; Snodgrass, Howson, Johnson, Pilkington; Jackson, Holt. Subs: Rudd, Surman, Hoolahan, Morison, Tierney, Ryan Bennett, Chris Martin.
