  • FULL-TIME: Newcastle United 1-0 Crystal Palace. A late, late goal leaves the visitors empty-handed in their quest to avoid relegation as Papiss Cisse's winner handed the Magpies all three points. The game had been decidedly average for the most part, until the 93rd minute when Cheick Tiote struck the crossbar and Cisse missed the most simple of follow-ups. Both sides look resigned to a point apiece, but Cisse had other ideas, somehow managing to steer home Hatem Ben Arfa's cross-cum-shot to seal all three points.

    Goal Papiss Cissé
GOAL! Newcastle have surely won it at the death thanks to Cisse's headed goal. The Senegalese striker more than made up for his error just moments earlier, stooping to head home what looked like a shot from Ben Arfa. The Frenchman picked the ball up on the right and ran at the Palace defence before hitting across the ball which flew in the direction of Cisse and we finally have an opening goal here.
  • 90' + 2'
CROSSBAR: Astonishing end to the game at St James's Park. Tiote's stunning piledriver from range comes cannoning back off the bar and falls for Ameobi. The striker passes the ball across goal but Cisse somehow fails to convert from three yards out. In defence, he was under pressure from a defender but still should have scored.
  • 90'
Newcastle make their final throw of the dice as Sylvain Marveaux enters the fray for Sissoko. We will have three minutes off added time to find a winner.
  • 88'
    Substitution Moussa Sissoko Sylvain Marveaux
  • 88'
Ben Arfa has added a new dimension to the Newcastle attack, but his profligacy in the final third may have cost his side here. Having weaved through challenges successfully, the Frenchman has an opening to curl home but his strike goes high and wide.
  • 86'
A long ball is hurled into the area towards Cisse, but the striker is unable to get sufficient pruchase on his chest down towards Sissoko and Palace hack the ball away.
  • 85'
    Yellow Card Damien Delaney
  • 84'
Delaney enters the book for a rash challenge, with Palace beginning to sit deeper and deeper as a defensive unit here. Can either side find the elusive opener?
  • 82'
Tiote wastes another opening for Newcastle and it is all becoming rather desperate in the final third from the home side's perspective, with long shot after long shot failing to test Speroni in the Palace goal.
  • 80'
    Substitution Jason Puncheon Adlène Guedioura
  • 80'
Palace make another change as Adlene Guedioura comes on for Puncheon so perhaps Pulis may be shutting up shop after all. Can they secure a first win in five league games?
  • 78'
Crystal Palace are hanging on doggedly to what could prove an invaluable point in their aspirations of staying in the Premier League.
  • 76'
    Substitution Yoan Gouffran Shola Ameobi
  • 76'
Palace manager Pulis sends on Glenn Murray in the hope of what would be a crucial late winner, with Jerome departing. Newcastle also make a sub, with Gouffran departing and Shola Ameobi arriving.
  • 75'
    Substitution Cameron Jerome Glenn Murray
  • 74'
Gouffran unleashes a speculative effort which zips well wide of the target as Newcastle's frustrations began to spill over.
  • 74'
Dummett delivers a corner from the left but the delivery, not for the first time, is poor and Speroni collects with the minimum of fuss. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa then sends in a powerful volleyed cross which Cisse tries to get a flick on, but Palace again deal with the danger effectively.
  • 72'
Anita is denied by a desperate challenge at the far post as he looked to turn home a deep cross past Speroni.
  • 70'
Ben Arfa's contribution and general impact since coming on only begs the question, why did he not start? The winger has been excellent and jinks his way to the byline this time to fashion a cross which Cisse wastefully heads over.
  • 68'
Barry Bannan is on for the visitors, with Bolasie the man to depart. The winger has gone the closest to breaking this most stubborn of deadlocks this afternoon.
  • 67'
    Substitution Yannick Bolasie Barry Bannan
  • 66'
Ben Arfa sets off on a mazy run after picking the ball up just in front of the Palace defence, but his efforts to get a ball into the box ultimately result in a skewed cross which goes wide of the near post.
  • 64'
CHANCE: Cisse's wretched run in front of goal shows no sign of slowing, with the Senegalese striker missing a great chance to hand his side the lead. A sliderule pass from Sissoko feeds Cisse, but his finish is poor and straight at Speroni when he ought to have done better.
  • 62'
Sissoko reaches the byline after a barnstorming run on the left wing and cuts the ball back into a dangerous area towards Cisse and Ben Arfa. The striker misses the ball and the Frenchman is beaten to the ball by a Palace defender.
  • 60'
Gouffran sees his ambitious attempt from far out well blocked by the combative presence of Dikgacoi. The midfielder has been excellent alongside skipper Jedinak this afternoon.
  • 59'
Substitution Luuk de Jong Hatem Ben Arfa
  • 58'
Krul had saved brilliantly from Kagisho Dikgacoi just before that and Palace are really beginning to turn the screw here. Hatem Ben Arfa is on for the hosts, replacing De Jong, who has been poor throughout.
  • 56'
OFF THE BAR: So, so desperately unlucky from Bolasie, whose powerful effort bends onto the top of Krul's crossbar after dipping inside and cutting in from the left flank.
  • 54'
Three Palace players are caught offside as the ball is delivered into the penalty area but Bolasie misses the target anyway in a let-off for the Newcastle backline.
  • 52'
Krul receives treatment after a heavy fall but Newcastle do not let it affect them and Gouffran produces a cross which Delaney has to be alert to as Palace eventually clear their lines.
  • 50'
Another chance goes begging for Palace as their latest venture forward ends with Jerome slashing his shot wide of goal.
  • 48'
Crystal Palace have started the second half in inspired fashion and should be ahead more or less immediately after the restart. Another speedy break leaves Puncheon clear on the right but, having cut inside, his curling effort was just wide of the far post.
  • 46'
We are underway for the second half as Palace get the ball rolling once more.
  • HALF-TIME: Newcastle United 0-0 Crystal Palace. Not an awful lot to shout about in truth for to shot-shy sides. Newcastle are missing the dynamism up front of Loic Remy while the visitors are living up to their reputation of being the Premier League's lowest scorers. The hosts have seen presentable chances to Cisse and Gouffran fall by the wayside but it is Palace who have gone closest through Bolasie. With fellow relegation rivals winning, Pulis' side must be more clinical on the counter in the second period.
  • 45'
Puncheon's latest corner is superbly whipped towards the far post but is just out of the reach of a host of Palace players ganging up at Krul's far upright.
  • 43'
Jedinak does excellently to first shield his defence and then win a free-kick for his side after being dragged back. Puncheon and Jerome are both doing a great job up front of cutting off the supply line at the back.
  • 41'
Bolasie comes so close to giving his side the lead with a searing strike which flies just inches wide of the far post. He had done all the hard work, skipping inside Dummett but could not apply the finish.
  • 39'
Delaney is forced into a hurried clearance as Vurnon Anita, who has been on the fringes of the game, seeks to pick out the onrushing Cisse in the area.
  • 37'
PENALTY? Mike Williamson's downward header appears to hit Dann on the arm but despite the Newcastle players and fans' protests, Lee Probert is unmoved.
  • 35'
Newcastle keep the pressure on and force a corner when Cisse's cross from the left has to be flicked away from in front of de Jong by Damien Delaney.
  • 33'
Newcastle are slowly beginning to crank up the pressure on Palace and their increasing dominance almost told when Gouffran was spotted on the left-side of the penalty area, but the Frenchman's snapshot was straight at Speroni, who gathered easily.
  • 31'
CHANCE: Another slick move, this time from Newcastle, results in de Jong sliding the ball across the area to Cisse, who chooses to go with a first-time effort, which is pushed away by Speroni.
  • 29'
Crystal Palace are looking to get at a susceptible Newcastle defence at every given opportunity and Jerome leads the fight once more, but his pass to Puncheon sends the winger wide and he is unable to deliver a ball into the area.
  • 27'
Gouffran is down receiving treatment after what seemed a fairly innocuous altercation as he attempted to dribble out of his own half of the field.
  • 25'
CHANCE: Palace squander a brilliant opportunity on the counter attack, with Jerome selfishly electing to shoot when he had Bolasie and Puncheon either side of him in space. The striker's effort looped up into the air, courtesy of a deflection, and Newcastle were able to clear their lines.
  • 23'
Puncheon snuffs out Dummett's attempts to get a ball into the Palace penalty area and his cross eventually flies out for a goal kick.
  • 21'
Tiote bursts into space on the right flank and picks his head up for a pass, but his ball through is poor and easily dealt with by Palace.
  • 19'
Jerome is caught offside in his attempts to breach the Newcastle backline after a great ball forward behind Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett.
  • 17'
Pulis will be delighted with the way his side have settled here and they have posed a threat on the counter. Adrian Mariappa gets forward on the right but Yoan Gouffran does well to shepherd the ball out.
  • 15'
Cisse loses out in a tussle with Jedinak before the midfielder launches it long in the direction of Bolasie. The ball is too heavy, however, and simply affords Newcastle a goal kick.
  • 13'
CHANCE: Newcastle work the first major opening of the game as a neat passing move results in Cisse holding the ball with his back to goal. A slick turn later and he is away from Scott Dann, but fires straight at Speroni, with de Jong nodding the rebound over the bar.
  • 11'
Newcastle try to release Sissoko on the right-hand side, but the ball is slightly over-hit and rolls out for a throw-in.
  • 9'
Cameron Jerome sees a chance come and go as Newcastle get back to deny the frontman space before the home side move forward with the ball. Palace are holding out resolutely so far.
  • 7'
Papiss Cisse fires an ambitious ball over the top of the Palace rearguard but Speroni is there to collect it easily.
  • 5'
Crystal Palace force a corner on the right flank but the delivery from Puncheon is easily punched away by the grateful Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal.
  • 3'
Mile Jedinak is immediately snapping at Newcastle heels, conceding an early free-kick to Moussa Sissoko before Cheick Tiote tests Julian Speroni with a long-range effort. Jedinak hauls down Tiote next, but the Newcastle midfielder's free-kick deflects off a Newcastle head and out for a goal kick.

We are underway, with Newcastle getting the ball rolling.
  • We are just moments away from kick off here at St James's Park.
  • With Remy injured, goals may be in short supply in this match - in 2014, Palace are the lowest scorers in the Premier League with seven this calendar year, while Newcastle have only managed eight.
  • The Magpies' run of four successive home defeats came to an end when they beat Aston Villa in their last home fixture four weeks ago, but in their last five home league matches that late winner from Loic Remy is the only one the home supporters have witnessed.
  • Newcastle, meanwhile, will be without manager Alan Pardew once again, as he sits out the second match of his three-game stadium ban. The man that helped the Magpies to their 3-0 win at Selhurst Park before Christmas - Yohan Cabaye - is now of PSG following his January transfer.
  • Palace's main worry is their lack of firepower, having scored just 19 goals in their 29 Premier League games this season but Pulis has tightened things up defensively since his arrival, with only Newcastle scoring more than two past his charges since he took the reins at Selhurst Park.
  • Today, of course, represents a second trip to the North East in as many games for Palace fans following the creditable point at the Stadium of Light but they still slipped to 17th as a result and, with Fulham beating today's opponents, they are now just three points above the drop zone.
