Handled well against a physical Blackburn side especially at set-pieces. Could do nothing with Hoilett’s strike.
Was solid for most of the game as the Newcastle defence didn’t give the Rovers frontline much to work with. Was dominant in the air and tackled well.
Was troubled at times by Hoillett and should have picked him up for the Rovers goal. Worked well with Gutierrez down the left. Good intervention header to stop Yakubu equalising.
Made two great interventions to deny Hoilett when he looked to race clear of the Newcastle defence. Was brilliant all game at the heart of the hosts' rearguard.
Defended well against the threat of Olsson, tried to get forward and support Obertan as much as he could.
Pulled the strings in the midfield for the Magpies and helped dominate the middle of the park as Newcastle had a lot of possession.
Had a good game down the left for the Magpies. The Argentine was able to use his quick feet and trickery to great effect as he turned Salgado inside and out on several occasions.
Broke up the play well and used the ball nicely when in possession. Always tried to bring his wingers into the game. Good performance.
Raided well down the right for Newcastle. He always wanted the ball and provided some decent crosses into the area which troubled the Blackburn defence.
Fantastic performances fully deserved hat-trick. Used his strength and speed to good effect especially in the first half where he gave Samba a tough time. Good finish for the first goal on the turn and used predatory instincts for his second capitalising on a mistake by Rovers. Great header for the third.
Linked up well with Ba, provided a good cross for Newcastle’s first goal. Could have had a couple of goals himself but failed to take the chances on offer in the first half.
Could do nothing with Ba’s goals as he was let down by his defence. Handling and kicking were solid.
Was given a tough game by Obertan, never really coped with his pace as the Newcastle winger was able to cross the ball in at will. Won his fair share of headers.
Had a nightmare against Ba, as he couldn’t cope with his physical presence and movement. Should have done a lot better against him for the first goal as he was turned too easily. Poor game.
Struggled to cope with the trickery and pace of Gutierrez down the Newcastle left. Couldn’t get forward as much as he would have liked due to this threat.
Like his fellow defenders struggled with the Newcastle attack, his marking particularly against Best was lacklustre as he gave him too much time and space on the ball.
Good movement and ball in for Hoilett’s goal. Tried to offer Rovers a creative outlet down the left but was often left isolated. Tried to track back and help Givet defend Blackburn’s left flank. Missed two great chances in the second half. Sent off in the second half.
Anonymous for most of the game. Showed brief glimpses of his ability but these moments were few and far between.
Passed the ball quite well but failed to get to grips with the tenacious Newcastle midfield. Faded as the game wore on. Good intervention to deny Best from adding a fourth.
Clumsy back header allowed Ba in for his second goal. Was outfought in the midfield by Tiote and Cabaye. Not his best game.
Great finish for his goal. Was probably Rovers' best player as he caused problems for the Magpies down the right with his pace and skill.
- 13 M. Bunn
- 31 G. Hanley
Brought on late in the second half but unable to make an impact.
- 14 R. Petrović
- 29 S. Vukčević
Showed a few nice touches down the left but was unable to help his team avoid defeat.
Tried to get involved in the game but was isolated up front by himself.
