AS Nancy - Paris Saint-Germain Preview: League leaders aiming to avenge last year's double defeat

AS Nancy - Paris Saint-Germain Preview: League leaders aiming to avenge last year's double defeat

The bottom side are hoping to spring a shock against Carlo Ancelotti's men, who have not beaten them in three years in Ligue 1

N'dy Assembe

Karaboue, Sane, Mangani
Louis, Moukandjo, Mollo

Van der Wiel, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell
Verratti, Matuidi, Sissoko
Pastore, Menez

Nancy boss Jean Fernandez has been boosted by the news that Joel Sami is fit for the visit of league leaders Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

The Congolese centre-back suffered a thigh strain last weekend, but has returned to training for the beleaguered club's clash against their star-studded opponents. Striker Djamel Bakar is suspended after being sent off in the 1-1 draw with Sochaux, as is Simon Zenke.

Paris Saint-Germain meanwhile can welcome back Marco Verratti from domestic suspension, after the 19-year-old missed the 1-0 win over Reims last weekend.

Midfielder Nene is out for six weeks having suffered a fractured cheekbone in that game, joining Mamadou Sakho on the sidelines with the centre-back struggling with a hamstring problem.

  • Nancy sit bottom of the table, having won just one of their nine league games to date. They have also scored a league-low of just three goals.
  • Jean Fernandez's men were unbeaten after week two, but have since lost six games on the trot, before arresting that record with a 1-1 draw with Sochaux.
  • ASNL achieved an unlikely 2-1 win over PSG in this fixture back in March, ultimately derailing the visitors' title hopes.
  • Nancy also won 1-0 win against PSG at the Parc des Princes in November 2011. They were the only side to do the double against them last year.
  • PSG moved top of Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win over Reims, coupled with Marseille's shock 1-0 defeat to Troyes.
  • Carlo Ancelotti's men are unbeaten in domestic football since a 2-1 reverse to Lille in April.
  • Les Parisiens, who have collected as many points as the whole of last season, have scored 19 goals in the last 15-minute period of matches this season.

Players to watch

G. N'Dy Assembé

The Nancy goalkeeper will have to be at his best to deny Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co. at the Stade Marcel Picot. N'Dy Assembe is at times capable of stunning performances, with a reflex-ability and aerial superiority to match the likes of Salvatore Sirigu and Steve Mandanda in Ligue 1. He has been unlucky with recent results, but should be a main player for Nancy on Saturday.

J. Pastore

Position: Midfielder

Games: 10

The Argentine midfielder continues to be haunted by his hefty price-tag, roughly 15 months after switching from Palermo. Pastore was once again distant in his latest endeavours, but should enjoy some continuous playing time given the nature of Nene's injury. If given the space, Pastore will strike, opening up defences with a killer pass, amongst his other assets.

Editor's Prediction

Carlo Ancelotti's side have suffered in this fixture in recent times, but now, les Parisians find themselves top, and the hosts bottom of the Ligue 1 table - with form pointing to an away victory. Nevertheless, there is scope for a slip-up here, and that seems to be a likelihood.
