The keeper could have been expecting a much more difficult game before kick off, but was largely untested on the day. He made a great save to deny Rafinha in the first half and patrolled his area well from set plays.
Provided a fantastic physical presence in the heart of defence that Bayern found difficult to break past. He read the play well and time his tackles excellently to stunt the visitors' momentum after Mandzukic's early strike.
Seemed stunned after Mandzukic's early strike but he did well to recover. Alongside Klose, Nilsson ensured that Nurnberg were watertight in the second half. He headed off target in the second half - a chance which could have provided the winner.
Ventured forward on the right frequently as was integral to his the majority of his side's attacks. He kept Alaba on his toes but was let down by some poor delivery at times. Nevertheless, an energetic display from the American.
Was guilty of leaving too much space on his side of defence which was exploited by Kroos and Muller in the early stages. He soon bucked his ideas up but the early damage had already been done.
The former Stuttgart man was very comfortable when in possession provided a very cool head out on the left. He failed to test Neuer from a great area early in the first half and was lucky his team held out in the closing stages after a stupid sending off.
Was put in the midfield to break apart the play and screen the defence but was not always effective in this role. He gave the ball away too cheaply and left a lot to be desired in the tackle but his determination shut Bayern out late on.
Competed well in midfield, hunting down the ball and distributing it well. He helped ensure Bayern did not enjoy total retention of possession and equalised early in the second half with a swerving, long-range strike.
Offered no drive from the middle as he rarely saw the ball. He spent much of his time moving around the pitch and did not attempt to get in possession and help his side work their way back into the game.
Looked a bit jittery in the early stages, a failed Cruyff turn that rolled out of play the perfect example. Nevertheless, he eventually settled and put in some quality deliveries for set plays. His dribbling was also impressive.
Was thwarted by a great Alaba tackle early on and it proved to be one of few chances. He failed to spearhead his side's attack and only threatened Van Buyten once but his second-half header was saved by Neuer.
Had nothing to do in the first half but was caught out by Feulner's swerving effort minutes after the restart. He did well to save from Polter midway through the second period but failed to inspire confidence with some mad moments.
Never looked like allowing Polter to get the better of him at the back and limited space in the channels. However, he did not get as much time to sit on the ball as usual and could not get on the end of any attacking set pieces.
D. Van Buyten
The veteran Belgian had a solid enough afternoon, only being beaten to a single header by Polter in the second half. Fortunately, Neuer spared his blushes with a decent save.
Did not attack as much as expected and should have made the most of Nurnberg's lopsided focus. He should well have bagged a goal in a 33rd-minute counterattack but his shot lacked conviction.
Made a terrific challenge inside the area with seven minutes played to stop Polter from firing a shot on goal. He motored up and down the left flank and caused a number of problems. However, he did look vulnerable to Chandler's runs from deep.
Initiated and orchestrated a number of swift Bayern counterattacks from deep, but his team-mates were unable to take full advantage. He did not get up to support the forwards in the final third enough.
Displayed his excellent technique with a decent all-round attacking game. He made some great passes, particularly putting Rafinha through on the half-hour mark, and dribbled well.
Controlled superbly before rolling a pinpoint ball across the box for Mandzukic to open the scoring. He popped up in space all afternoon but a header on the stroke of half time should really have ended in a goal.
Had a hand in the opening goal but did very little to stake a claim for more minutes in the first team. He always seemed a step behind the play and this enabled Nurnberg to build momentum throughout the game.
The Germany international had a relatively quiet afternoon by his sides. He did get into a few promising positions but was unable to forge anything of not for his side. He will no doubt be eager to return to a more central position.
Scored with his very first opportunity, putting Bayern ahead in the third minute. His movement was impressive, regularly finding space in behind the defenders, but he received a lack of service for the remainder of the game.
Replaced Rafinha shortly after the hour mark and offered an additional attacking outlet down the right flank. He put in a couple of good crosses but Bayern could not find a winner.
Brought on for Tymoshchuk in the 53rd minute, the Spaniard struggled to adapt to the pace of the game. He was left to chase back more than aid momentum going the other way and made some clumsy challenges.
