L. Cigarini 64'
That's it from me, Keeghann Sinanan, it's been a pleasure!
Another home loss, and more questions surrounding Milan. They certainly had their faults today, and Atalanta picked them apart clinically to steal the points. Allegri and Co. need to improve, and fast.
90' + 7'
De Jong slips in Bojan on the right, his cross goes just above the head of Pazzini, and is bundled out for a corner. But there's no time to take it, as full time is signaled!
90' + 6'
A further two minutes added on to the clock to account for the delay in treating Manfredini.
90' + 5'
Milan struggling to advance the ball, and more sloppy passing breaks down another attempted foray into the Atalanta half. The visitors can smell the three points now!
90' + 4'
Manfredini is stretchered off as play resumes. He soon limps off the stretcher and is seen hobbling around the sidelines.
90' + 3'
Mafredini seems to have twisted his ankle after colliding with Consigli. Nasty looking one for him. What a shame too, he's been outstanding.
90' + 1'
Bojan attacks a loose ball at the edge of the box and smashes a half-volley towards goal. It takes a deflection and ends up in the arms of Consigli.
Five minutes of injury time...
Now Bonera, of all people, lines up a shot from 25 yards out. Desperate times for Milan, and I'll let you guess how that one turned out.
Poor, poor deliveries, both from crosses and set pieces, has been one of the things that cost the Rossoneri today. Another corner ends up cleared by the defence.
It's now or never for Milan. They need to throw all caution to the wind, and pile men forward. What kind of statement for the title does it send, losing your first two home games against relative minnows?
Yellow Card Maximiliano Moralez
Yellow Card Cristian Raimondi
Scratch that, it's a corner for Milan. Moralez stands over it, and is shown a yellow card for standing at the corner flag like an old lady at a crosswalk.
ATALANTA SHOULD HAVE FINISHED IT!! Moralez leads the break once more, and feeds Raimondi on the left. He takes a bit of time to get it out from under his feet, but tees back Moralez, who, with the goal virtually at his mercy, fires over the bar!
De Luca with an outrageous dive under no pressure from Abate. No call, but it does burn a few more seconds for Atalanta.
Cigarini sees yellow for taking his sweet time to walk to the bench to be substituted. On comes Cazzola.
Yellow Card Luca Cigarini
Boateng should do better! He shimmies infield, loses his marker and squares up to goal at the top of the D, but blasts over the bar with his left foot!
Emanuelson has been hauled off for Constant in Milan's final change.
Nocerino is twice blocked while trying to find space to shoot. Another good defensive sequence from Atalanta, of which there have been many.
Giuseppe De Luca
Bonaventura jogs off to be replaced by De Luca.
A deflected cross bounces dangerously in front of the six yard box, where Nocerino is a split second to late in judging it, and Consigli claims.
Milan should score! Emanuelson races down the left and fires in towards goal. Pazzini comes within a hair of getting a touch on it, which would have surely been 1-1. Instead, it bobbles out for a goal kick.
No more to come from Brivio, who couldn't shake off that injury and makes way for Ferri.
Another threatening delivery, this time from Antonini comes within inches of being turned in, and flashes across the face of goal. Better from Milan.
Stephan El Shaarawy
Off goes El Shaarawy and on comes that man Bojan. Surprised Pazzini hasn't been withdrawn instead, perhaps Allegri things Pazzini isn't as useless as he's looked today?
Close shave! A dangerous cross from Emanuelson is sent right into the heart of the box, and somehow misses three Milan shirts before bouncing the wrong side of the post!
Brivio is down on the deck after digging his foot into the turf while tracking back. Looks painful.
But who do Milan turn to to right the ship? Pazzini has been anonymous, but we've come to expect that from him once he's faced with a good marker (in this case, Manfredini). Does Bojan beckon? Allegri needs to change something, and fast.
Isn't this just what happened against Sampdoria? What will the response be for Milan this time? Another home defeat beckons as things stand.
Assist Germán Denis
Goal Luca Cigarini
ATALANTA STRIKE FIRST!!! Good hold-up play from Denis, who shields his marker before teeing up Cigarini. The midfielder does not break his stride, and whacks a low shot into the far corner! 1-0!!!
Atalanta break at pace once again. White shirts storm forward as Moralez leads the charge, feeding Biondini on the overlap down the left. The midfielder unleashes a shot from a tight angle that was probably heading just off target, but Abbiati makes sure of it by pushing wide!
Yellow Card Davide Biondini
Biondini then enters the book for clashing strongly with Nocerino.
What do you make of the second half? Get in touch @keeghann on Twitter.
Yellow Card Daniele Bonera
Bonera sees yellow for a careless barge into Moralez.
EL SHAARAWY! A venomous effort from the edge of the box after skipping past a marker is punched away from danger by Consigli!
First substitution for Milan. Off goes Ambrosini, who seems to have taken a knock, and on comes Nocerino. Cue the Goal.com comments trolls (you know who you are!)
Abbiati saves!! A stinging shot from Brivio poses plenty of problems, the Milan keeper can't get a handle on it, but there's no one lurking to attack the rebound!
Abbiati gets up comfortably to snare a delivery from Moralez, who is looking a bit tired to start the second half.
The excellent Manfredini manages to get a boot on a dangerous cross from Antonini.
Sustained Milan pressure in the Atalanta half counts for naught as a poor passing sequence gives away possession.
Here we go again!
Hit me up on Twitter @keeghann for any thoughts on the game so far!
A brightish start for Milan has tapered out as Atalanta have fought their way back onto an equal footing. Not much chances to speak of, but Denis had the best of them when he hit the post. Hopefully things will improve in the second half. Join me in a bit.
No stoppage time as the ref blows for the half!
El Shaarawy with a nifty first-time shot on the turn that Consigli does really well to hold on to, with Pazzini waiting to mop up any rebounds.
Abate scoops in a deep cross towards the far post that is little more than catching practice for Consigli. Pazzini, lurking at the far post, never had a chance of getting onto that.
Yellow Card Stephan El Shaarawy
El Shaarawy becomes our first booking of the evening after nudging down Biondini on what looked like a promising break for Atalanta.
Boateng is looking dangerous at the moment. He collects a pass from Abate on the right side of the box, spins away with his first touch, but shoots across goal.
Denis is stripped of possession deep in the opposition half, sparking a Milan break. Boateng works a great ball out wide to El Shaarawy, who is prevented from a one-on-one with Consigli by a great tackle from Lucchini!
No sight or sniff on goal for Pazzini so far. Manfrendini has done an exemplary job so far in marking him right out of the game.
Denis initially looked to have spurned a chance when running into two defenders, but the ball was worked to Moralez, who tests Abbiati from outside the box. The keeper punches clear, a save he should be making, really.
Atalanta flowing again on the break. But what was once a promising 4-on-3 ends when Moralez interrupts the sequence with a weak pass to the overlapping Denis that Abate can intercept without much effort.
Another Milan chance! Ambrosini wins possession off Cigarini, and strides forward before blasting towards goal. Consigli can't hold, but Manfredini gets there JUST ahead of Pazzini to clear away what would have been a surefire goal from the rebound!
CONSIGLI SAVE! Great stuff from the Atalanta stopper. Emanuelson had carved the Atalanta defence apart with a storming run, and fed El Shaarawy into the area. Consigli saves, and Bellini's attempted clearance bounced back off the keeper and out of play!
Raimondi with an ungainly challenge on El Shaarawy as he looks to spark the Rossoneri on the break. Foul called.
Moralez again coming in off the left flank. His runs are spelling trouble for Milan to pick up, and this time, he takes aim from 25 yards out but misses comfortably.
What is going on with Milan? Another giveaway in midfield, and another counter for Atalanta. Though, Raimondi ruins all the good work with a horrendous cross into the box.
More nervy stuff from Milan. Moralez and Denis both wriggle free of their markers in quick succession, with only a scrambled mash of bodies preventing them from getting a sight on goal.
The swiftness with which Atalanta broke there shows that there is certainly more than meets the eye with the Orobici. Milan need to be on their guard.
ATALANTA HIT THE POST!!! A rare break for the visitors, thanks to a piece of sloppy passing from the Rossoneri. Denis leads the charge, his initial pass is all wrong, but Milan fail to clear, and Denis lashes the rebound onto the base of the post!
Another solid defensive tackle coming in for Atalanta, this time from their skipper Bellini. The visitors aren't letting Milan have any space.
Good strong challenge by Manfredini, to halt Boateng in his tracks near the centre circle, and snuff out a dangerous-looking 3-on-3 break for Milan.
Now was that a foul? A good run from Emanuelson is halted at the edge of the box by a challenge from Lucchini. Emanuelson goes down, but no free-kick is forthcoming. He did go down a tad easy there.
Crucial to Milan's hopes today will be Boateng, playing behind Pazzini and El Shaarawy in a trequartisa role. He's got to drift onto the flanks when needed to open up space inside, because Milan look like they have more than enough players to handle the charge centrally.
Nigel De Jong takes another stride forward and tries to make something happen. When your defensive midfielder has the most touches on the ball, then it's never a good sign for your creative impetus.
A small spell of positivity for Atalanta. They held possession in the Milan half in the last few minutes, but were unable to do much save scrap for a few 50-50's.
Boateng squares up to Raimondi inside the area. He twists left, then right, and goes down under minimal contact from the Atalanta midfielder. No penalty.
Boateng drives a strong one from range. It misses the target, but encouraging signs for Milan, who are starting to find more space around the box.
We're seeing early signs of how this one will pan out. Atalanta are struggling to get a sight of the ball, but Milan, for all their possession, are finding it equally hard to create space. Their narrow formation is not helping matters.
Decent enough start from the home side. Atalanta have barely had a touch of the ball so far. San Siro is in good voice.
And we're off!!! Any comments throughout the game? Hit me up on Twitter @keeghann.
We're about to get underway here...
Atalanta have not had a happy time of it so far in the new season, picking up a solitary point from their opening two games. Their pre-season match fixing penalty docking them two points means that they sit second from bottom with -1 points. Can they at least rise to zero today?
Milan's last home game, remember, ended in an untimely defeat to Sampdoria. Already, criticism has started from the Rossoneri faithful on Allegri's tactics and Berlusconi's penny-pinching ways. Today is a good chance to put some of those noises to rest.
De Jong makes his first start in Milan colors in what is a narrow lineup for the 2011 champions. Bojan, however will have to wait at least one more game for a place in the XI after El Shaarawy was chosen to partner Pazzini in his place.
Atalanta (4-4-1-1): Consigli; Bellini, Lucchini; Manfredini, Brivio; Raimondi, Cigarni, Biondini, Bonaventura; Moralez; Denis. Subs: Frezzolini, Polito, Stendardo, Matheu, Ferri, Cazzola, Scozzarella, Troisi, Parra, De Luca
Milan (4-3-1-2): Abbiati; Abate, Bonera, Acerbi, Antonini; De Jong, Ambrosini, Emanuelson; Boateng; El Shaarawy, Pazzini. Subs: Amelia, Niang, Yepes, Mexes, Zapata, Mesbah, De Sciglio, Flamini, Nocerino, Constant, Valoti, Bojan
