Mexico may stick with the same team that beat Switzerland 1-0 in their last group game as manager Luis Tena has no injury worries going into the game. However midfielder Hector Herrera and defender Miguel Ponce could push for a place in the starting XI.

Likewise Senegal have no new injury worries following their draw against the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday. Everton striker Magaye Gueye are expected to start for boss Abdoukarime Diouf for the second consecutive game and West Ham midfielder Mohamad Diame is set to continue in to play in the heart of midfield.

  • Senegal have never reached the quarter-finals of the Olympic games before.

  • Moussa Konate (pictured right) is the top-scorer in the tournament so far with four goals in his three games.

  • Only keeper Ousmane Mane from Senegal squad ply’s his trade in his home country, the rest play in teams from 10 different nations across Europe.

  • The winner of this game will play either Japan or Egypt in the last four of the competition at Old Trafford next Tuesday.

The Tottenham man has undoubted quality but hasn’t been able to show that for Spurs in the Premier League. He’ll be desperate to show his talent to English crowds at Wembley and with two goals already to his name he will definitely cause problems for Senegal with his pace and skill.

M. Konaté

The 19-year-old has been in red hot form so far in the tournament with four goals. He’s been the star of the competition and real surprise package. The striker’s shown predatory instincts in and around the box so the Mexicans must be alert to his threat if they want to advance to the semi-finals.

Editor's Prediction

Senegal have looked good in the tournament so far and have shown they can score goals. Mexico, however, are yet to concede so we could be in for a very interesting game. Expect Senegal just to knick this one with the firepower they have at their disposal.
